I love the music in Bioware games. I think they have some of the best music period. Not only that but the music always seems to match the games themes and helps make the story so much better. Music can be used to help build emotion and to improve cutscenes. The music in Dragon Age and Mass Effect is a big reason I like the games so much.

With all that in mind how does other people here feel about DAI's soundtrack?

Overall I was really disappointed. There were a few really good pieces like the main theme but most of the music just sounded boring. I just beat the game two days ago, I put in over 150 hours and I cannot recall any of the music in my head. Not having memorable music really hurt the game in some areas.

The bard songs were great though!

I thought some of the tracks were really  good. I really really enjoyed the Orlais, Journey, Adamant, and Inquisition. The ones after Orlais got me really pumped ingame and accompany some of the best cut scenes IMO.

I dsiagree. The soundtrack in DAI was very strong and way better then DAO/DA2 and on par with ME music. Getting Travis to do the music was a very smart move.

I thought it was great. The big, booming title themes were goosebump worthy, the combat themes were a major step up, and the ambient music was very pretty, although I wish there was more of it.

Great soundtrack, I really enjoyed this soundtrack compared to the other two games.

I love the soundtrack, I put it on my phone and listen to it all the time  It's definitely up there with the ME 2/3 soundtrack.

The main theme especially - sometimes I have DA:I started up but just idling in the main menu while I did some chores around the house because I love the main theme so much   Or hanging out in the Western Approach - I love the ambient music there. However I do think that there isn't enough ambient music, it's often pretty silent. If the music kicks in, though, it's perfect.

Oh and the bard songs - they are awesome and I always hum along when I go to a tavern in game

My biggest problem was that not a single theme in da:i that I have heard so far sounded better than the main theme for dragon age origins

The issue with DAI music is that it does not sound 'iconic', other than main menu theme.

DAO had main theme, Leliana's song and Ferelden at War, DA2 had Hawke's theme, Rogue Heart, Mage Pride (not to mention the credits-exclusive version of 'I'm not calling you a liar'.

DAI has some really nice tunes, but they slip away as soon as one turns off the game. Also, to me the main theme sounds way too close to the 'Voices' from Macros+, I realized that as I was humming the tune, and it turned out to be the wrong one. :)

I also can't say I enjoy the choice of the instruments, it's too generic.

Probably there are some great tunes saved for the further great battles - IDK, I'm only lv18 and is only going to start the 'wicked hearts..'(or whatever that Celene quest is called).

The soundtrack was great, but i still feel Origins is better. What i missed the most was some good combat music and exploring music. There was almost none to be found, dead silent when running around and just ambience. I do not like that. My favourite is Val Royeaux and Journey to Skyhold.

The soundtracks in Orgins and the Baldur's Gate trilogy are better IMHO.

A great soundtrack should not stand out from the game (or film), but enhance the material as a whole, IMO. Did not even remember the track for the battle preceding the move to Skyhold until watching someone else play a LP vid.

If the music overrides the setting, then the entire work may be in need of repair. And a lesser piece of music will stand out from the rest, and maybe annoy the listener. None of the DA series have failed to present anything but the highest quality in background materials for myself.

I love this game's music.  I was humming the bad guy's theme to myself for a few days after he reveals himself to you.  The music everywhere is really well done.

I always hated this speech.

It feels weird especially since you feel like you should be the one giving it, but you can't because you have no voice.

I'm not sure how it stands against previous titles really (didn't play DA2 anyway).

I do remember that some of the BG and DA:O music was really iconic... I'd often find myself humming it.

I'm not sure if it'll be the same with theDA:I music. I've been playing for >100 hours now, and I've not been humming stuff yet.

That said, I do think the score is good overall, atmospheric and supports the mood and gameplay very well, along with fantastic sound-design more generally.

I also think that the bard material is not only a stroke of genius, but is exceptionally well delivered for what is pretty much a cosmetic addition to the game. The vocals are lovely, and there are a couple of songs in her repertoire that are beautiful.

Oh, and the cello section during the opening/menu music is one of my favourite parts, I love it.

the ambient music in Origins is the best IMO.. i will admit some of the combat music is pretty great in DA:I, and the theme is off the charts.. i also like the bard music.  i just wish you could "request" your favorites at the skyhold tavern.

Very good soundtrack but wish there was something as haunting as "The Dalish Elves Encampment" from Origins

I particularly like The Lost Temple very, very much. It had already stood out to me in the game and I later skimmed the soundtrack for it.

The music in Alistair's rousing speech is actually terrible... It's cheesy and detracts from what he's saying more than anything. Inon Zur needs to stay away from brass instruments, whenever they're introduced his songs always get bad.

I thought Inquisition's soundtrack was far more iconic and thematically consistent throughout than anything seen in previous games. Before the Dawn and its variants are stuck in my head for eternity, and unlike the main menu theme from it's predecessor you actually get to hear it more than once during the game. Corypheus' theme is also far better (and memorable) than whatever happened to play for Meredith or the Archdemon from the previous games.

Yay or nay? Massive yay. It's leagues above DA:O and DA:2, but on the downside it suffers from the same problem as ME3. At times it is just too quiet.

But the soundtrack that is in is amazing.
