It's a "Yay!" for me, if I include the tavern songs. Other than those it's... well, fine. But mostly nothing memorable.

Overall, it's a YAY for me. You've got combat songs like this...

...that really give you that sense that something epic is occuring. And then this dragon fight music...

...is pure greatness!

Even all the music at the Winter Palace really made me get totally absorbed in it all:

----------------------------------------------------

All of that said, for the most part, I'm disappointed in the music that plays in the regular areas, like The Hinterlands, Storm Coast, etc. Just too damn quiet for me. That's about the only thing Skyrim excelled at more than DAI: great ambient style music, like of course this classic:

If they could have had something like that playing in the various zones, this game would be damn near perfect for me. Now, maybe they opted for a more quiet solution since there is a lot of party banter, while Skyrim doesn't have to worry about it? Who knows...

Just my 2 cents...

Too bad that one isn't part of the actual soundtrack, at leats I haven't found it. I know where in the game it takes place, but no dice.

Why did they left this one out. It's a haunting track. "Nightmare's End" that lasted only 40 seconds had its place but why not this.  <_<

Yeah... It sucks... I have a whole thread dedicated to the songs in the game that aren't on the soundtrack for whatever reason: http://forum.bioware...-the-rest-of-it

The bard songs make it work.  I love em.  Some were gorgeous, some were avant, some were funny.  Overall theme music/score is well done and keeps you immersed in the environments, but not very memorable as others have mentioned.

The soundtrack of this game was one of the highlights for me. It added a massive amount to the game. Excellent.

Maybe because you aren't a soundtrack fanatic? :P

I'm in love with Inquisition's soundtrack. Many of the movements feel appropriate, tug on all the right strings, and heighten the immediacy of the game's themes. That said, the game is largely devoid of music--either by design or bug--and I would very much like to hear more music more of the time in an average sitting.

I was immediately annoyed by Origins's constant creepy tunes but Inquisition didn't let me hear its glorious music. Strange. Am I not worthy? :P

The soundtrack as a whole may not be as consistent in tone, but some of the individual tracks really do stand out.

In addition to the main theme and the first time finding skyhold, I'm a big fan of "Wrath of Heaven" and "In Hushed Whispers". Very, very atmospheric. The romance theme is a major upgrade over the DA:O one as well lol.

I love the Inquisition music, very catchy. Especially the Dawn will Come and Sera's song...lol.

Only song I miss from Origins was the romance theme.

I think the romance theme of Inquisition is far superior to the one in Origins. For Cassandra's romance at least, it fits perfectly.

What I noticed between the DA:O And DA:][ soundtracks, is that the Main Theme goes lower and moves down the scale for an ominous, darker kind of tone. Inquisition, on the other hand, moves higher up the scale and higher octaves. This fits perfectly, considering the 'religious' aspect of the game and the way it looks at the 'holy'. Has great contrast in comparison to the last two themes.

Not a fan of this soundtrack. Nothing really epic or memorable at all.

Soundtrack is one of the highlights of the game for me, that being said i have went a loooooooooooong time exploring in game with no banter and no music, it can get to be a very lonely experience

Maybe the soundtrack is good? It just never seems to play in my game. Or when it does its seemingly bugged out like with the incessant drums in Skyhold.

What's there (when it plays) seems fine. But for a huge open world game where you're exploring a ton, there is a distinct lack of ambient music. Exploring Skyrim was great in large part because the music made roaming around so enjoyable.  Most of my time roaming around in Inquisition is spent in near silence, between the lack of banter and lack of music. Or when some snippet of music does play, its almost entirely forgettable.

I inititially thought Bioware saved on music because I don't have any.  No combat music or hardly anything so no DAO and DA2 way better untill music bug is solved via patch untill then I dont believe there is much if any music in the game.

I love it, it's very stylistically different to Inon Zur but I love what both composers have brought to the franchise.

I dsiagree. The soundtrack in DAI was very strong and way better then DAO/DA2 and on par with ME music. Getting Travis to do the music was a very smart move.

I agree with you.

Initially when I found out Inon Zur wasn't doing DAI's music, I will admit I was pretty devastated.  I was prepared for the game to "not feel like" a Dragon Age game.  I'll always love the music in DAO and DA2, but I have to admit I have enjoyed DAI's music considerably more.  Which I never thought possible.

Now if only they'd release the Bard songs.  Was quite disappointed that they weren't included on the soundtrack that came with the DE.  Sometimes I'll idle in the tavern/inn just to listen.

I'm not a fan of the soundtrack for Inquisition.  Some of the songs are okay and I do like the bard songs.  A moment in the game a DA:2 song played (Hawke Family Theme I believe) and made me realize just how lacking this new soundtrack was.  Definitely prefer the music from the first two games.

I haven't finished yet but I am loving all the music so far.

In particular, I love:

- Tavern Bard songs which were well written and performed (especially Enchanter and the one about Grey Wardens). I hope this is a staple feature in future DA games.

- Dawn Will Come which appeared at just the right time to inspire the inquisition. Also when this theme plays ambient while travelling, I have an urge to sing the 'Dawn Will Come' part. :)

- Dragon fights music makes long dragon fights a joy.

- Val Royeaux (I wish it would play on loop rather than fade out)

- Bull Chargers shanty(?)

Only music/theme I dislike is the Wardrums of Skyhold. I would replace it with Val Royeaux as a personal preference.

A great soundtrack should not stand out from the game (or film), but enhance the material as a whole, IMO. Did not even remember the track for the battle preceding the move to Skyhold until watching someone else play a LP vid.

If the music overrides the setting, then the entire work may be in need of repair. And a lesser piece of music will stand out from the rest, and maybe annoy the listener. None of the DA series have failed to present anything but the highest quality in background materials for myself.

I kind of disagree with this.  A great soundtrack and great theme ought to be listenable on its own, otherwise the music provides nothing but atmospherics, and that alone NEVER makes a great soundtrack.

Take the scene in lotr where treebeard calls the ents, listen to the accompanying music that comes in.

That theme is NOT just atmospherics and background filler, as those ents emerged from the forests and the chorus came online, it was spine tingling, everything was enhanced by that music, and even by itself it stands out.  We needed more of THAT.
