I tried a mage twice and my tank just let them attack me. I was surrounded with nothing but a crap attack until my abilities cooled down. I don't remember the other games being this bad. I remember Alistair keeping everything away from me to a degree and drawing the aggro. When I was a tank I did that too. My mages were largely ignored and when they weren't I made sure I got the attention back on me but here, the AI is so crappy that I have to keep switching to a tank so they will do their job. The limiting of abilities doesn't help this at all. Mages used to be a lot more fun.

I have no idea how to run a mage in this game so that I don't spend the whole time jumping from the enemy. What is the best way to play them?

1. Set tank behavior to target those who attack you rather than those you attack. It's in the behavior tab, I think the choices are "defend" or "follow". You want "defend."
2. Buy multiple taunts for your tank. War Cry and Challenge ASAP.
3. Get Fade Step and Barrier ASAP.
4. If you're still having trouble, run around piloting your tank so they are closest to enemies when combat initiates. Then jump into your MC for the actual combat.

It gets easier later when you have CC, multiple tanks, or spec into KE so you no longer care if enemies attack you.

A couple of things to know:

1) Face Step. Best ability in the game.

2) Get the tank both taunts. War cry and Challenge.

3) Don't initiate. Send your tank in first. Enemies will have an initiate aggro on the first visible target. So unless you get too close, or attack it, they will be on the tank. This gives the tank time to taunt everything-

4) ???

5) win.

Another few things, for optimizations sake:

- There is no need for more than 1 tank.

- There is no need for double mages to have double barrier. Barrier isn't particular useful beyond the initiation and if you see a fireball is going to hit you.

- Set the tank to Follow - Him/her self. It won't make them automatically attack stuff on you, but if you don't; they will not do anything unless you are attacked. Use quick commands to send the tank after particular enemies, and use your CC well.
