I really enjoyed the romances in this game, but...let's cut it out and be real here.

I'd like it if they continue with the inquisitor as well, but it's Bioware themselves that said they want a different protagonist for each game because it's a story about DA's world, not character :/. Of course they could just be saying that to excuse them changing protagonists after Hawke without admitting that it was probably done due to DA2 not being received as well. Hawke could have originally been intended to become the inquisitor/protagonist like Cassandra says, and we do know that DA2 had a sequel planned that got scrapped.

That's my impression of that statement.

I keep hearing that statement; that DA is a story of the world and thus a new protagonist each game etc etc, but it felt like Inquisition was all setup. Even that ending party thing. Nobody's really going anywhere. So either they ran out of money or they're planning on finishing it up with DLC or it's a part of a larger Inquisition story arc. I'm hoping for either of the latter two, personally. If they're able to do it via DLC then awesome, I'm game for a new protagonist next game. If they're not...I'm kinda hoping that their DLC ideas get expanded into a full sequel.

Given that I romanced Blackwall, I got a much happier ending than I was expecting. Snuggles on the balcony!

Spoiler

Either way, I don't expect to see him again beyond Inquisition DLC. He's got too many varying endgame states for it to be likely he'll show up again as a significant character. This is one reason I don't want to continue playing as the Inquisitor - it's likely to be Thane all over again :( .

I'm hoping Blackwall and Cullen don't ditch my quizzies. I'm not optimistic though :(

Romances are a side thing.

I think we should be happy that they're a thing.

Only thing that makes me not want to play the Inquisitor again is not having Cassandra as a party member since I made her Divine. Who the heck would replace her? Blackwall? Blergh.

Thane was always dying, and people who deluded themselves into thinking otherwise have no one but themselves to blame for the disappointment of reality.

I wouldn't mind having the Inquisitor stick around for another game. I'm not particularly invested in seeing him as the protagonist in DA4, but I'm not opposed to it like with Hawke. That said, I'd expect we'll see a lot of story DLC and an expansion building on DAI. Whether there'll be anything beyond that is too far off to tell.

And Hawke was definitely supposed to be the protagonist in DA3 as they originally conceived it. The whole point of DA2 was Cassandra trying to figure out who Hawke was and where to find him. A lot of fans didn't like him, so they had to scrap that.

Sometimes I wonder if BioWare should be a bit more inflexible when it comes to the story they want to tell from time to time. It's not like the forum's not going to find something else to ****** and moan about anyway. I also wonder about playable races. Is this something that BioWare should feel obligated to provide in each DA game following this, no matter what the story is about? I guess it all depends on what they write, but in DA:I, it seemed like the extra races were there as an afterthought to appease people who made a big deal out of being able to play a non-human character.

They were an afterthought in a sense. Inquisition was originally going to be human only with you able to choose a background, sort of like Mass Effect, but when they got the year extension they decided to add Dwarf, Elf, and later Qunari as options.

I'd sacrifice all of those options just to have a greater variety of hair XD

I don't know how widespread the use of races other than humans is, but it made a HUGE difference for me. The race reactive dialogues added such depth to my roleplay, I was really pleased about it.

Morrigan and Warden seem fine, they even raised their child together until he off to find a cure for taint.

Alistair and Warden are pretty much happy together.

Hawke and Fenris, Merril, Anders even Sebastian still together with the exception of Isabella because of her nature.

Isabela isn't the exception. We only assume because of what we know about her character, but Hawke intends to look her up after this is all over. It's just a matter of what happens after Weisshaupt.

I wouldn't expect any of my characters to actually retire. Unless their really old or wounded or something. But the point is if their out fighting somethings going to happen. So, someone may die or they could easily get separated or whatever. And that's fine.

Next game? Pfffffffft. My Inquisitor was separated from her love interest this game.

I think I'll go fix some hot chocolate and cry about it.

My second Inquisitor and I will go cry with you.  ;_;

It's a money and time thing really.  There are so many choices the player could have made and they have a somewhat limited amount of time and money to bring in and pay all the voice actors.  That's why it seems like you either have the LI leave in the next game or if you're lucky you get a kind of lame excuse as to why they aren't around,

From what I could tell Hawke left Isabela to go into hiding. At least if you side with mages. They're still a couple, just not together.

I really love how they handled our Origin and DA2 romances. There is separation yes, but it's only temporary (unless you kill Hawke/Alistair off) and for good reasons. :) I hope they extend the same kindness to the romances in Inquisition. (wanted to give you a Like but I'm out for the day still)

I don't see why they wouldn't do the same or better for Inquisition. At least the romances that end up breaking off for certain reasons in this game are pretty much cut and dried. The Inquisitor is in an even more stable position than the Warden.

Nothing you do in this game will matter in the next.

Just like nothing you did in the previous 2 mattered in this one.

Your love interest will probably amount to a war table operation along the lines of, "The Inquisition Demands A Booty Call".  You're talking about a game in which the entirety of our elven "hero's" family/backstory/what made him(her) him(her) hangs on who you decide to handle a war table operation.  Your entire clan/culture/history wiped out without so much as a nod from any character in the game?

No prob.

We got your back.

Sincerely, BioWare.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if our Inquisitor's LI, or (even worse) the Inquisitor shows up in the next game with some contrived reason for them being apart.

Oh and then they randomly disappear according to an epilogue slide because reasons.

I'd love to know where these 'good reasons' are, because all I got was utter BS from my Hawke.

'lol my bf loves me too much so I left him without saying a word trololol'

Good to know BioWare turned you into an ass, Hawke. Good to know.

Yes, I will forever be bitter about this.

I really got the impression that Hawke was intended as the Dragon Age 'Shepard' and would have been the protagonist in multiple titles, but after the DA2 controversy they dropped that idea and decided to put their efforts into Inquisition. And to me Inquisition feels like a beginning, not a singular adventure. I will be surprised if we don't play as the Inquisitor in the next game.

Honestly, I'd like it if they went back to Hawke as the DA protag. Chances of that happening are pretty slim to none now, but I feel like Hawke has a much stronger supporting cast and is a better defined character, more similar to Shepard than the blank slate Warden and kind of bland Quizno.

I'm sure I'm in the minority with that opinion, but I do miss Hawke. DA2 was made more tolerable by his/her presence.
