I'm surprised nobody else has brought up the music yet. That's a big part of what made the fights feel really epic to me. Plus, it only plays during a dragon fight, which makes the fights themselves stand out even more.

Don't most (all?) of the dragons attack you on sight?
The Abyssal High Dragon has to be lured to you. Two of them are sleeping.

Yea, some of those dragons just love their guard ability ![]()
I love the dragon fights, but man, when you fight one for 45 min then fudge up, die, ragequit, rinse, repeat, it messes with ya. ![]()

These are the best dragons I have seen, in the way that they move, the sound effects especially, they just feel so threatening when you encounter them for the first time...the way they should be. In Skyrim, the Dragons were so easy to kill and I didn't feel any more threatened than I would killing a bear.
Agreed. I'm loving their animations, the feeling of mass as they move. It's very impressive. Just the best Big Monster animation I've ever seen, I think.
Just take a look at when they move sideways to try and pull away from you... it's very realistic.
Also, dragon snores are soooo cute. ![]()

Met one in the Hinterlands last night (this is my first playthrough). I was just looking for a quest objective.
Dragon dropped a fireball. It had young.
My party was both bit and burned.
I fled.
'Nuff said.

The dragons in Inquisition are amazing. So much power and fury--the way it should be--and they provide a great gameplay challenge.

The dragons are great fun, but if you are anything like me you'll feel this nasty pang of guilt of every time you cripple a dragon's limb and watch her fall on her side, her head whipping about as she screams in agony and tries desperately to get back on her feet, whilst her little dragonlings watch on in horror, fighting vainly against you as they try to protect their mother in her dying throes...
Yeah, my Dalish isn't going to be a dragon hunter.
The first time I heard someone say this I thought they were being silly. Then I killed a dragon and I know exactly where you were coming from! It's like she was just hanging out in the quarry minding her own business and then the Inquisition comes along and hacks it to death. Sort of feel the same way about giants when they fall down. It just seems wrong

Yup, and that's not even the worst one. For a real guilt-trip, try the dragon in the the Hissing Wastes...

They are amazing, and they feel alive. I dont like to kill dragons, it makes me really sad and more knowing that they were though to be nearly extint thanks to humans.
But there are some dangerous dragons that need to be killed. The hinterlands dragon has it nest so close to redcliff that it is dangerous, and the crestwood one attacks ppl on sight. The rest is just being protective of their territory or hunt livestock.

I tried watching that dragon in the Hinterlands. I saw it flying around and thought, "Ooo... pretty!".... And then it flew by and rained fire down on my party. I ran like crazy out of there with my armor enflamed
That's just a friendly welcome!
Continue into that area and, after a couple of passes, he flies off, leaving you to explore that part of the Hinterlands. When you're ready to face that dragon for real, there's another little area beyond that one. He'll be waiting for you there.
And, yeah, you might want to visit a few areas other than the Hinterlands and level up a bit before you go say hello!

Killing your first dragon is really rewarding since they look beautiful and really well animated upon seeing them for the first time. However, I kinda feel that Bioware copy/paste them, and didn't change their combat mechanics beside one or two drake now and there...
To a point that killing my last dragon gave me a bitter taste. You are hunting them down for sport and glory, not because they oppose any kind of threat to Thedas, or the inquisition. And felt quite repetitive....
PS: Having Iron Bull and/or Sera during a dragon fight/encounter has a bonus

Cole: "She's hungry. So hungry. She wants to sleep, but it is too loud. She's hungry, she needs to eat."
The animation team did a superb job with these. They put emotion into those movements and that actually makes it difficult for me.
The ones that attack on sight, those are easier to deal with than the ones that are sleeping. They actually don't wake up until you attack them.
Also, *SHE*. Every high dragon in Dragon Age is female, by definition. I'm not even sure we see proper drakes, but then again it's not easy to look around at the adds when you're playing in action mode because you can't stand the problems with tactical view.

This.
I'd like to commend the animators and sound guys... well, everyone at BW. I've never seen Dragons done so well before this game. The way they move, the way they sound. Everything combines to form this epic experience when you fight one. Honestly, I won't spoil it because when you see one for the first time it's really incredible.
And each dragon is different, from the fight itself, to where you fight them. I haven't even seen a High Dragon yet, but my body is ready!

The dragon encounters are among the highlights of this game -- exceedingly better than the previous two Dragon Age games...
...yet still short of the dragon encounters in Skyrim.
In Skyrim, the dragons can appear at any time, in any place -- I'll never forget the first time I exited a building in the city of Riften, looked-up, and saw a dragon perched on the roof roaring in all its glory; then all of the townsfolk ran for cover.
You don't get that type of randomness or chaos in Dragon Age (for some reason, dragons in Thedas are content with cowering in their lairs all day & night) -- and because of that, the game that has the word 'dragon' in its title still can't claim it has a better dragon experience than the game that simply had a passing interest in them.

The dragon fights are challenging and rewarding. I wish some of the other fights you encounter in the game were as dynamic as the dragon ones. Bioware really did great with this aspect of the game.

Just killed my first Dragon today. In the Hinterlands. The fight lasted for almost 60 minutes, although I gotta say I ran for cover quite a few times, and my companions just instantly get revived in front of me. Anyway, I've encountered 3 other Dragons, and will be hunting all 10 of them.

I thought the fights would be more unique the way Bioware was talking about them.
