While I wouldn't really call it my ideal, something I think might be interesting is an LI who already has a kid from a previous relationship that ended for reasons that are utterly irrelevant. 

 

As far as I know, Thane's the only one who fits this description and I'm thinking a younger kid, around ten-ish. So something where the LI is their primary care-giver and stepping into the position of surrogate parental figure is part of the relationship dynamic. 

 

Would be a story we haven't experienced yet, and I'm always looking for new and different.

Nah, that would be an aspect of Thane's relationship I'd excise from this idea. 

 

But yea, I've noticed that a fair number of people have wanted features like being able to have kids or adopt kids with their LI; I don't see actually having a kid as happening outside of special cases like Morrigan, so this seems like a good compromise to me. 

 

Also, single parent is a character motivation we haven't really had in a companion before. Has some story telling potential.

Here's a few personal suggestions:

 

Elven Rogue Female who'd essentially be a mix between Isabella and Leliana. (Self-confident; Loves life; Risk-taker; Empathetic; Kind; and a romantic at heart)

 

Elf-blooded Redhead Female whose passive-aggressive; passionate; hot-blooded; Self-sufficient; Adventurous and has a dark past, but doesn't let it weigh her down. (Having a companion whose not weighed down by an angsty past would be refreshing)

 

Dwarven Female who lives her life by insane troll logic and appears idiotic, but is actually insanely intelligent, crafty, manipulative, and has a sense of honor.

 

Tal-Vashoth Female Mage whose conflicted about loyalty to the Qun or trying to attain relative freedom as a Tal-Vashoth.

I'd hoped for some gruff, manly-men as a change from the more hesitant pretty boys of past games and we got Iron Bull and Blackwall so I'm happy

I'm not too keen on dwarven males but I'd love to have the option for the dwarf lovers!

Anyway, my ideal LI would be ripped, dorky and handsome. A strong moral compass, rarely judgmental, open minded about new experiences and not stuck in his own ways. At least, willingly to try new things to see if he likes it. With me. (Looking at you, Iron Bull.) I don't really mind the race between elf, human or qunari... As long as he's available to guys, if he's ripped, dorky and handsome, I'll take it!

 

I agree with the sentiment that we need the Knight in Shining Armor type. Someone not straight.

If Dorian was an option for female inquisitor, I'd be very happy.... he can keep the gayness. He can be bisexual, I don't care. I just want a mage for ONCE who's not grumpy, whiney and turns into a terrorist or has some kind of other creepy thing going. *sigh*

I was totally into Solas before his personal quest that sent him straight to unstable misguided mage (or elf) territory like the others......
He had so much potential. But I guess it's my own fault. I seem to be drawn to this type. Which has uncomfortable implications about me because there is a lot of Solas in me >_<
The misguided creepy idealist can be the end of the road for an disillusioned idealist like myself. Careful careful...

We seek people who are like us, right? Being so very narcisitic, us humans
So I do like characters who are introverted dreamers. Who see things differently, offer a new way to look at things - like Solas.
But please Bioware, do they all have to be so angry inside? And so sad?!

That's why I turned away from Solas and to Dorian. I'll take his over the top mock arrogance but kind heart and ideals over Solas' real arrogance and quiet brooding anger any day now!
Dorian is a genuinely warm person, Solas is distant and cold even though he means well. I love the mystery but not the chill that creeps out of that ancient riddle box that is Solas...

So my ideal love interest would be a truly kind and sweet straight or bisexual male companion. I'd be OK with asexual too. Preferably a mage despite everything. Somebody who's introverted but not a recluse. Who laughes with the others, but is often caught up in his own world. Not quite there at any moment but at the same time observant and fiercely loyal to his partner AND his friends among the companions.
I don't want a shy, insecure guy like Alistair again (loved his romance though!). I want somebody who's confident in a quiet way. But who's self-critical and skeptical. Who can see both sides of everything.
Like Cassandra in some ways.

Yeah, so give me a mix of Cassandra's idealism, Dorian's defiance and charm, and Solas' dreamy mystique. Add some Alistair sweetness. Done.

And I don't want a troubled soul who needs to be healed. For once I want a companion who's not broken. Somebody who'll help *my* character become a better person.

And no more blond guys, agreed! I want dark brown or black hair. Thanks.

Well... we already had a few great:

 

Morrigan, Jaheira (BG2) ... they are my favourites   Exciting and complex characters with a feminine attitude but not too girly or overly sensitive like Merril or Aerie (BG2). Isabela or Leliana were ok as well. The two for straight males (Cassandra and Josephine) in Inquisition are really not my type.

About the very Bad Boy love interest thing, I'd say, "Where do I sign up?"

 

But I might find it tedious if the guy disapproved of anything even vaguely altruistic, just because he wants you to be destructive.

 

Seriously, sometimes it seemed like a Warden who wanted to garner approval with Morrigan had to do so by acting in a way contrary to their goals.
