...I'd just go outside and start dating, to be blunt and honest.

In regards to the game, I play all my characters differently, so I would have to design a love interest that would fit each one's interests individually.

And as I've already decided the love interests (or lack thereof: ANGRY Cadash has no heart, only extra adrenal glands) for my four inquisitors in relation to Inquisition itself, I would thus have to resort to writing fanfiction that takes place at some point before or during the time of Dragon Age: Inquisition. The characters involved would thus have to all be of my original design. Or I would have to commence in Collaborative Storywriting (or as it is normally called: roleplaying) so that I might be surprised at how two characters written separately become intertwined, however that may mean.

So...I'm afraid I can't really answer this question.

That's perfectly alright.

I began this topic at a time when there was about three sizable complaint threads active on the first page of the story section alone, and all about disliking the romance options. My intent was to provide an outlet that was more cooperative and "productive" in flavor. I didn't mean the topic title literally, but I can see why it's easily taken that way.

This thread is open to both character concepts and very general descriptions, such as a more Knightly gay male LI that there's a bit of an outcry for or the also popular request for a Dwarven LI. It simply seems like a better way to communicate our hopes for the future by putting them together in a positive tone, rather than have them drowning amongst condemnations of what we already have.

Also, if people have a favorite from amongst current and past LIs that they don't think even needs improving, then this is a good place to discuss that, because that can also be productive.  :)

I found Cassandra to be the best LI to date, but it's too bad Vivienne isn't also an option.

Group options should be added as well as more passing encounters.

Also there should be the option to pursue and have sex with multiple party members which reuslts in the eventual confrontation like in dao.
This is an rpg- and when such options are available it says as much as and defines your character for that play through when you DONt take them as it does when you do.
Part of why Beth and their open world games are more advanced in the role playing department than bioware at this point-
I CAN kill the shop keeper or annoying guard, I CHOSE not to.
You can pickpocket people- choosing not to defines your char too.

Same here how can a player make an awkward introverted character when the opposite of a sexually enlightened free spirit (male or female) is not an option?
And when I say group- I mean from a female point of view as well as male, a person given the most influential position in a growing movement might chose or not chose to have a "harem" of men or women or both. Or not- and not says even more in this case given the power of the inquisition and what it represents.

But bioware seems to be passing up role playing and immersion in favor of you playing their adventure story with some options rather than letting the player define their own experience.
So I would say- more options fade to black so less full scenes to program.

Personally, I'd like to see a combination of those ideas and see a knightly gay dwarf, of either gender?

Sure, there's the problem that it could end up being seen as another retread of the Dorian storyline, but for all we know, the Tevinter social taboos that make it difficult there might be nothing to how it is in Orzammar? After all, the dwarves are a slowly dying race, have difficulty concieving children anyway and with the deaths of those in the endless campaigns against the 'spawn, need as many children as they can muster to maintain their population and standing army?

Take Branka for instance. While her sexuality was left ambiguous in Origins, assuming that she was indeed a lesbian and not bisexual, one could see why her marriage with Oghren was so turbulent if had been pressured to find a husband for the sake of appearances? A Paragon is revered after all as a living ancestor, with all the expectations that come with it, so would be under intense public scrutiny in Orzammar. Picking Oghren to be her beard would have made sense, since he was (at the time) a decorated warrior and his tendency to sleep around (if he kept it discreet) would be arrangement they'd both probably have been happy with?

Sure, Oghren mentioned their wild sexcapades in the bedroom, but the guy does think he's a regular Casanova and is frequently so drunk he thinks the Dog is stealing his pants, so one could imagine him as seeing those days through rose-tinted, whisky-soaked, beer goggles?

But I digress. We know from all that politicking in Origins and Bianca's own forced marriage due to traditionalist kalnas parents, that Orzammar can be just as deeply conservative as Tevinter, so it would be interesting that in addition to sharing similar castes and social classes, they shared the same social taboos as well? It would certainly explain why in addition to being their regular lyrium peddlers, why the Tevinter Imperium have maintained such a long and prosperous relationship with the Dwarven Empire for the past millennia, when they've alienated everyone else?

Hmmm, I'll have a go. (At the original intention of the thread.)

I'd really like a male Avvar. Another barbarian could work, but I find them the most interesting. I'd like to learn more about the culture and especially the religion. The animism of it all really appeals to me and polytheistic religions are always interesting (as long as it's not the Dalish). So, I'd want him to be a believer in the faith and I'd especially like it if another companion is devoutly Andrastian. I think there could be some fascinating discussion about the nature of practicing the worship that the messiah of the dominant religion in Thedas defected from. Especially since Andraste starting praying to the Maker because the Avvar gods didn't answer her, but now the Maker doesn't answer either.

Personality: definitely an introvert. Straight forward, not one for needlessly beating around the bush. Intelligent (maybe a headman's son so he'd have more educational opportunities than your standard barbarian), specifically in regard to curiosity and thoughtfulness rather than outright wealth of knowledge. Basically I wouldn't want him to be a knucklehead cliche. Empathetic, particularly in an idealistic or philosophical way. A sense of humor would be nice too, but not in the team funny man sort of way.

I'd prefer a warrior, if nothing else because I rarely play them so he'd never unbalance my party. For a personal conflict, I'd really like to see someone struggle with pacifism, especially if it's religiously rooted. Perhaps there's an Avvar idea that the gods are in all things and are to be respected thus. (Not that everyone actually follows through with it.) I think it would be interesting to see someone who's been fighting struggle with where self-dense and protection of others stops and where slaughter begins when it comes to violence. Maybe he let a killer or someone go and they went on to kill more people, so now he's on a redemption mission?

Physically, I'd like for him to be slightly larger/burlier than the standard male human model. Not to Sky Watcher's extent, but noticeably. And a strong chin/jawline with stubble or a short beard. Otherwise I'm not that particular about looks, but I'm sort of leaning toward ginger.

And he's into men. I'd prefer gay since I'm selfish like that, but bisexual would be fine too. As long as he's blatantly into men and not one who only talks about women unless he's involved with you like Zevran, Kaidan, and Bull (minus possibly being with Dorian). Basically like a male Leliana on that front.

Hmm, okay I'll give it a try.

He would be a rare black haired Male Qunari, Tal Vashoth mage, bisexual, soft spoken, gentle but assertive. he'd be understanding and accepting of many things. Fit but not overly muscled, tall because well Qunari. He's have full curl horns and, look sort of like this guy.

I may be weird, but I would love a romance option like Jareth.

tumblr_ltwg8zT66m1qgjua6o1_400.gif#bowie

This movie turned me on to the villain falls in love with the heroine trope. Which is why I went for the Solas. He looked super sketchy post-Haven, so I immediately fired up a new PT to romance him.

Because I'm curious whether a lot of people would say "Qunari female", or whether many people would simply list an existing canon character (whether that be the one they are actually romancing, or...Harding), I pose to you this question:

If Bioware did specifically cater to you and your particular tastes, and you were asked what your absolute ideal romance option would be, what would your request primarily entail?

Brevity is encouraged. A post with paragraphs of fan-fiction about backstory or personality isn't going to have broad appeal.

Edit: character concept sketches are welcome, but for the sake of space, please spoiler tag the more massive walls of text.

My example:

I would like a Male Mage who is available to female humans (though not exclusively to female humans, of course) and who is not possessed, please.

Edit: This thread is not about wanting to change the love interest options for Inquisition, this is primarily about our hopes for future franchise installments, or even appreciation for which characters are already available.

Hmmm why not exclusively? And why not possessed? I mean you get a two for one love interest special right there.

By the way: I love how you had to add the edit for precaution.

Qunari female or Viddathari to complement one of my male Qunari. Dat Qun lovin'. Perhaps bi. Perhaps an agent like Gatt. Oh by Andraste please no personal quest in which her choice could make her a Tal-Vashoth. She would be perfectly comfortable in the Qun, perhaps more mellow like Gatt but just as hardass as Sten.

I'd love someone similar to Cassandra or Aveline (or Evangeline) as a gay/bi option. Someone who is usually quite serious and formidable, but with a bit of humour and a softer side (like Cass with her books, or Aveline on her romance quest or after All That Remains). She'd have a strong sense of morality, but wouldn't be bound to the rules. They'd probably have a position of importance within some kind of order or establishment, but they'd be willing to work against it (or improve it) to help people. Definitely a warrior. On the romance side, they'd be quite romantic. Something a little like the 'courtly love' with Josephine, but without her being the 'lady' and us the 'knight'.

A dwarf would be great too. A dwarfy dwarf, not a surfacer. Someone who can give an interesting insight into the culture of Orzammar or Kal Sharok. There could be an interesting angle if they want to return there after the main quest is over, but they've fallen in love with a surfacer. Good sense of humour too. Like Sigrun, but without the bittersweet aspect of the GW or Legion. I like my happy endings! ^_^

Personally I'd like some more non-follower LIs... Characters who have a purpose in the game but don't have to be a badass warrior. I wouldn't mind an elven servant, someone who we could save from horrible abuse by their master and eventually could form a relationship with. (would be great for a Dalish elf playthrough)
I actually though DA:I might have been including that when early in the game we wake up to find the Elven Servant in our room, she soon runs away and never returns, I would've loved that to have been the introduction into a character who we could have eventually romanced. Maybe they could have earned a promotion to Quartermaster once the inquisition moved to Skyhold giving them a greater purpose in the game? What do you guys think?
Also I think it would have been risky but awesome if Bioware had made Cullen gay. Imagine the tease for all the femquisitors who tried to romance him but he wasn't interested. The most handsome male character in the game being gay would have been just like Sera (the cutest female character) being lesbian.

Totally this. To be honest, I'm kind of sick that all my relationships are with co-workers. I actually would love to have an relationship with an character that haves nothing to do with my work.

The most handsome male in DAI is already gay, to my disappointment.

As for romances outside of the PC's immediate sphere, i am very much for that, but the limitation is that characters need to carry their part of the story and people usually don't want LIs who they can't meet several times. So any serious romance will likely be with an important character.

That's about how most people value love - they put many, many things above the connection: Money/work, religion, patriotism, laws/morals, etc. Nothing new really.

Well, it's kinda hard for me to design my own love interest when Morrigan already exists, and I've found at least one love interest in each of the games that I've really liked (Isabella, Cassandra, Josephine). If I were to want an existing character to be a love interest I would definitely say I want Scout Harding (that and I'm convinced they're going to release a romance for her as part of future DLC). I also wouldn't mind if we expanded on Anora's "romance" arc. Since it's pretty much non-existent, but it would be nice to have at some point in the past gotten an expanded look at our Warden and her's relationship. That's never going to happen, but it would have been a nice Origins DLC.

I would love to see some kind of DLC in the future with Celene as an LI. Sure she sometimes has a canon love interest, but so do characters like Iron Bull, Dorian, Josephine, Blackwall. I dunno, I have a thing for powerful women apparently, but I really would love to see a possible romance between the Inquisitor and one of his most powerful allies.

And as far as my own invented LI. Hurm...

I think a female templar might be fun, though Cassandra does kinda fill that role. But imagine the story you could get out of it with helping your love interest overcome her lyrium addiction...

Wait...

Ah, bugger.

How about a former Qunari Tamassarand? Imagine it, tall and intimidating physically, added on top of the fact that her entire previous life's devotion was wrangling a bunch of rowdy Qunari children. So kinda like a sexy scary horned teacher lady.

Honestly, the most unique thing Bioware could do is have a love interest that is just a random farmgirl or barmaid. Nothing special about her, just a regular girl with a regular job. Compared to all the other love interests having something "interesting" about them maybe the lack of any interesting characteristics would be interesting in and of itself.
