On whose order? Lucius' or Samson's?
Lucius'. Well, the Envy demon pretending to be him at least.

Ahh. So it's unclear what Samson himself would have done with the situation.
I actually really like Samson as a villain, even if we don't get to see him often enough; it's one more reason to take the mage side (also, I love Cole's introduction in In Your Heart Shall Burn: "He's very angry that you took his mages").

I serously doubt Barris would approve of Samson or even consider joining him. He was already disgruntled with what the order was doing in Therinfall.

Meh, Dorian is better in that situation.
"I'm here to warn you about what happened to the mages ... fashionably late I'm afraid,"
Also prefer Cole's introduction in the fade and him helping you fight off Envy.

Well, with Lucius screwing up and the Order being corrupted by demons, Samson's offer of a new and solid purpose could seem quite tempting.

Can't abide that.

Except the part about even more Red Lyrium dealing with Samson

Ah, but it's red lyrium that won't drive you crazy.
Calpernia is so much better than Samson
Is she really? I'm just now firing up my pro-Templar playthrough.

Her story was pretty interesting. Is all I can say. I haven't done Samson's yet, but I'm not sure if it will top hers.

I feel like they really skimped on his story, especially since we "knew" him in DA2. Cullen just acts like giant info dump about Samson.

I still feel like they should've did someone else besides Samson as the Red Templar leader, him being a high rank member would've been fine

That's too bad. I thought they did a good job in exploring Calpernia to the point I was happy that I did the side quest with Leliana.

Good, I'm very excited!

Nice. I hope you enjoy it.
So I was wondering, if Barris dies breaking the barrier then who talks to you after Envy has been defeated?
And just how low does the bar have to fall in order for Barris to die? 50%? 30%?

I agree, a former slave liberated by Cory and she despises the mistreatment of slaves. Liberated each one serving under her and they fight for her willingly. She wants to make Tevinter a better place for everyone. Cory even had to hide the mistreatment of her former owner/mentor (not sure in this case) cause she wouldn't have agreed to his binding spell on him. And can be reasoned with in the end. I let her go.
If Barris dies (RIP, sigh), you get a generic unnamed dude speaking for the templars in the post-Envy recruitment dialog. I felt rather let down by the fact that you can't find and talk to him in either Haven or Skyhold. Does Barris show up anywhere (except the war table missions) when he lives, or is Fiona the only one?

Sadly it seems Barris is too busy being awesome and actually getting things done.
And that's how it should be, it's just odd that "ally with a faction" is this first big plot point, but you can't talk to them about what it actually means. Terms, conditions, the plan to seal the Breach, them asking about your mark, that sort of thing. I expected a formal talk with a representative and the Inquisition leadership at Skyhold.

You could say it's odd that those things haven't brought up even a little bit, and you cannot talk with a Templar Order representative at Skyhold. Meanwhile Ser Barris is too busy helping the Inquisition saving the world, he leads his fellow templars in protecting mages, and killing demons and venatori while Fiona stays in Skyhold reading books, and being useless as ever.
You can promote him?
Now that's a spoiler I'm glad to get. I've just started my second playthrough (wasn't really happy about how the first one turned) and just did his first wartable op.
Ser Barris is awesome, and the voice actor too. Gotta look up who it was, from the get go I liked him. TBH, I don't think I'm ever doing the mages quest ever again. It even gives me a genuine reason to keep Cole around. Yes, having a spirit around like that is dangerous, but I kind of owe him for the help with the envy demon.
Mark Healy is the fellow who voice Barris. He's got a lovely voice.
What would you not like about it ?
