The Temps were my allies and many of them joined the Inquisition and kicked their lyrium habit and joined the Seekers. So It seems like they scattered about between Inquisition, Seekers, and Templars...unless I got it wrong and Viv formed her own Templar Order and the Temps I allied with merged into the Seekers and Inquisition.

I'm so glad that I sided with the Templars. I got to meet Barris & my sweet Leliana never got tortured (thank the maker for that huge miracle).

Not that it stopped certain individuals from believing so.
No real need anymore. He's a soldier; their purpose is to fight and die for civilians. There were civilians among the mages in Redcliffe and none among the templars in Therinfal Redoubt, so regardless of politics, the choice seems clear.

Funny how in the endings very few Templars return to the order if Cassandra reforms them yet apparently most of them return if Vivienne who keeps the status quo is divine. Guess Templars never change. More reason why I'm glad they're gone in my ending ![]()

Has to do with Barris how?
It shows how one man doesn't redeem the entire group as a whole. That plus the argument a Templar has with Cassandra in haven if you ally with them where the templar demands that the inquisition mages be punished clearly shows they are still the same a-holes I don't like. As much as I'd like to support Barris, I'd never support the templars and thus he is sadly deceased in most of my games.

Barris and Calpernia vs Fiona and Samson? Is that even a question?
Calpernia is a hidden jewel of DA:I, while Samson is a generic boring madman. And Barris is simply awesome, while I wanted an option to strangle Fiona every time she opened her mouth.

The bonus to getting Barris is getting Calpernia as your 'nemesis', no doubt. One thing I find interesting about her is that she's just a decision or two away from being Dorian, in terms of actions. They both love their homeland and are willing to fight for it, but see clear issues with the status quo that need to be addressed. I don't know that she is necessarily a villain, so much as she is a well meaning individual duped by a charismatic leader.
Also: Barris is awesome. A real Knight in Shining Armor, in the best sense.

Barris died in my play-through last night! I am a big sad sack that is starting again because I didn't save. Whelp. Anyway, now that I have wiped away my tears where the hell do I find him in Skyhold? I am assuming that you get to speak to him like you do with Fiona, yes?

...Sadly, no.
But, but consider this.
Whilst Fiona is all sitting about Skyhold being incompetent and uselss and unrepentent of her stupidity, Barris is out in the world leading his brothers and sisters, saving a young mage newly manifesting magic from being killed by a mob without spilling blood, protecting a neutral circle from common folk angry about the whole Templar/Mage war and needing a target and defeating demons/abomanations assailing a city.
Much, much better don't you think? ![]()

Unfortunately you don't get to speak with him at Skyhold, but you get to send him on various war table missions until he's built enough rep that you get to promote him to Knight-Commander in a super badass throne cutscene. It's so worth it.

I used a combo of Cullen and Josie for Barris' war table missions. I think I used Leliana too, not sure. I don't want to spoil but using Josie for one of Barris' missions keeps someone from getting hurt.

Vivienne doesn't keep the status quo.
Their decision to leave or stay with you doesn't seem to depend on who is Divine, with the exception of Leliana who doesn't reform them, for instance I had Vivienne as Divine and they stayed with me. Granted I disbanded them so there's that.
I'm wondering if there's a way for them to stay with me, get Divine Vivienne and have them not go off lyrium. I know the lyrium choice is related to what you do with Cullen.

So, I have I confession.
I... finally played through the Templar mission, and I too am a fan of Ser Barris the Badass.
What's not to love? The honesty of his doubts? The conviction of wanting what is better for more than just himself and his faction? The humility in accepting his failures? The contrition in wanting to make up for them? The maturity of accepting responsibility of the successes and failings of his faction? The desire to make amends for those failings, without denying them as failings?
The fact that he's an awesome black character in a medium with too few admirable and respectable examples?
Praise be the one Barris. Let his glory lead the templars into a better future.
...That wasn't sarcasm...Oh goodness, that wasn't sarcasm! I think I'm going to visit the why we hate Sera thread now, I feel clean.

And all you need to do for this is to let the population of Redcliffe and a bunch of civilian mages, including children and Tranquil, be ravaged by the Venatori. Hardly worth the price.

I think you're overestimating how much people care about pixel people. Even then if you're role playing as the Inquisitor most people who side with Templars never go to Redcliffe in the first place and therefore have no obligation to care. How? He's dead in... probably more than half of games.

Hmmm.
Even then if you're role playing as the Inquisitor most people who side with Templars never go to Redcliffe in the first place and therefore have no obligation to care.
Why's that, from a roleplaying perspective? Investigating Redcliffe requires no power investment, so it'd make sense to do that first.

I sent Cullen to oversee Ser Barris' war table mission and it went real well. He did things honourably. There are however once that you might want to consider using Josie. it's when Barris want to throw himself between an angry mob and an apostate. I used Cullen & they saved the guy but he got beaten a little bit by the mob. Dunno what Josie's solution will give though.

Nah, we don't see Barris died on screen. As a reminder, we got Leliana & Anders to die on screen at DA:O & DA2 and... here comes DA2 Anders & DA:I Leliana!!!
It's said that Barris died. They might make an explanation why the person told us this lie, or get wrong somehow.

Strange, the population of Radcliffe are in fact perfectly fine in my game, commenting how the Mages just upped and left after selling themselves as slaves to the Magisterium...for freedom?

Oh and the tranquil? You mean the poor sods whom the Venatori were killing and cutting off their skulls to be used as shard detection devices? So sorry, but their deaths are totally on your lovely mages, no one else. Cause you know, Fiona is the dumbest person in Thedas, cause of course them nice Tevinter mages were simply escorting them poor tranquils to safety.
And freedom, never forget freedom.

>civilian mages
>following the person who started the war
If there are children there, I will admit that they are non combatants, but every single other mage is a combatant because of their war for independence. They then willingly followed Fiona's deal with Tevinter, (the tranquil were already killed off en mass by Alexius as per codex, I think there's maybe one left we can recruit)
The Mages being too stupid to let live is not the Inquisition's fault.
