I have yet to do the Templar side, so I was all like "Who the hell is Ser Barris?"

I guess you never see him again if you go the Mage route since I don't recall him appearing with Lucius in Cassandra quest

I just did Champions of the Just yesterday.

When he drinks the Lyrium and then kisses the cup, I reacted with "Now this is a proper badass!"

Just reminds me of a Hollywood hero a whole lot, and not in the bad way.

(Many Hollywood heroes are just idiots by real life standarts. Not Ser Barris.)

Does anyone know what do do next once player get the promotion quest to make him Knight commander?

I complete all his operations but I can't interact with the throne to promote him.

Does this require players to first complete a certain Main Story mission first or reach a certain Inquisition rep level?

The promotion is bugged, you need another judgement, when you interact with the throne it will activate the promotion scene.

I think it's that plus a combination of people wanting to play the hero. If you're a casual then you probably won't be inclined to look past the surface, all you probably know is that these people are fighting for "freedom" and in a lot of people's minds that automatically translates to "good". It was a problem that plagued Mass Effect as well and one that I think will continue especially if there are scenes like the one with Lucius which isn't really indicative of what the Templars actually are.

This is very similar to how Skyrim plays out with choosing between the Empire and Stormcloaks. Alot of people were newcomers to the Elder Scrolls Franchise with Skyrim. So their first impression is the simple one of "Oh the Empire tried to execute me." So most will follow the Stormcloaks in thinking the Empire is some stereotypical evil empire or even just a puppet to the Thalmor. But if you really delve deep into the story and lore then you can see that the Empire isn't so black and white with what they are.

This is actually the same thing with the Assassin's Creed franchise as well. It wasn't until #3 that they make the Templars in AC seem rational and aren't just "HAHAA CONTROL THE WORLD!!!" They had legitimate reasons for believing in the Templars.

Templars conscripted and Cullen continues taking Lyrium: that templars decided by unanimous decision to remain in the Inquisition. Thet formed the core of the Inquisition army

Wow. That is better than them joining the Seekers, I really wanted my own Templar army. I like Viv as Divine, but I don't trust her 100% with her own Templar army.

Well, looks like Cullen is gonna be a druggie.

Vivienne will have her own templar army, but you keep the best of the order and Barris forming the strongest army in Southern Thedas.

Also despite what some might think. Vivienne is the Inquisitor's ******, since without the Inquisition she would never keep her throne and she knows it.

Same can't be said for Leliana or Cassandra.

The big question is if you can make them stay without conscripting them.

Now I am suddenly wishing that any post game DLC/expansion with that outcome makes Barris a party member.

Which means...

Vivienne and my Quizzy were on bad terms. Then she got the throne...

And, you know, Quizzy doesn't like where it's going, so...

Must overthrow!

That would be great, but considering that he can not only die during Champions of the Just, but also presumably dies if one sides with the mages, I think it's rather unlikely... :crying:

Oh yeah I'm sure she will make her own Templar army regardless which is why I like the idea of having my own just in case and with Ser Barris at command I couldn't ask for a better force. I totally agree that Viv is the Quizzy's ******, no doubt about it. She is a mage on the sunburst throne in a land where people don't like that. Another reason why I prefer her to Leliana or Cass.

I allied with the Temps and some stayed while most joined the Seekers under Cass.

Also when you do the mage intro quest it has a very large sense of urgency "Those time rifts are spreading!" meanwhile templar quest is just "well they can wait..."

It's hilariously lopsided.

Barris dying is a rather sad scene despite how frantic the moment was.

The fact the Templars had the better quest makes up for it though.

I loved Seras's reaction to the red templars  ^_^

I still wonder why we can't talk to Barris in Skyhold like we can with Fiona if we sided with the Mages.

It would be interesting to be talk with Barris about his life and learn how the Templars are adjusting to life in the Inquisition like how they handled FIona.

Nah, I prefer the idea of Barris being out there, doing good. He's not just going to sit around Skyhold while his subordinates go out and do all the work, he's going to be out there with them. That's one of the reasons why he's cool.

Would still be cool if there was a random (small) chance that if you don't assign him personally, he'll appear for a resupply, or something, then not appear for next couple visits to Skyhold at all. Could even be that he can pack his stuff up during your visit and make his way to the main gate.

You know. "Hey, I'm here to grab supplies quickly, not mess around while doing it like Harding. Templar stuff to do."

I mean, you don't need to spend hours grabbing supplies if you sent a raven ahead for the Quartermaster to prep everything. And this badass has a war to fight!

I was intrigued by his character when I first met him that he showed concern and reasonableness. I decided to follow him to the Templar quest and I wasn't disappointed. Now I can't pick the mages because I don't want anything to happen to him.

Barris should become the next Lord Seeker.

Cass is gonna be too busy beign Divine.

The problem with the Lord Seeker position is that "Complete *******" apparently seems to be one of the job requirements.  :P

Yeah, he's better off as Knight-Commander. He'd also make an excellent Knight-Divine. But I think that would be a waste of his ability to lead.

No way. The Seekers are dead and buried, and they are beneath an individual as respectable as Barris.
