He survives if you refuse to do the flags ritual thing.

Ahh. I thought the ritual was poignant, and also that a show of respect for the request would help get the meeting off on a good start, so my character would never have refused it. Is it explained why the nobles survive if you do? The few minutes spent on fiddling with flags can't really buy the bad guys that much more time to slaughter or turn the rank-and-file templars.

Yes. If Abernache (I do not know why I am able to remember his name) survives and you send the Avar chief to do a cultural exchange, he ends up with Abernaches and you get a war table mission (Abernache Over and Under) where both of them are complaining about their relationship (Abernache also complains about the fact that the Avar chief punches horses). Your options on the war table are to make the Avar chief train Abernache (Abernache gets injured during training), teach the Avar chief manners (apparently an Avar tradition involves flipping over tables at banquets, Abernache and his family begin to hide in terror), or turn them into the ultimate diplomatic team (where they develop a mutual respect for each as Abernache wows them with words and the Avar chief punches people that words do not work on). The mission is hilarious, and it is worth it to get the only diplomatic team that even approaches the level of awesomeness that Ser Barris has.

 That sounds ... wow. Pure brillance. Gotta love this game.

Oh my god.

This is gold.

Brilliant!

This is amazing....oh more reasons to love this game.  :D

Priority two: keep Abernache alive.

Basically Abernache is a bit less grumpy if you skip the flag ritual, so he doesn't antagonize the evil Templar and get killed in response.

Ahh, thank you. I must say, I did not shed a tear for the guy when his typical noble's arrogance got him what-for in my playthrough.

Even if Barris doesn't have a major role in any future DA games, do you think we could at least hope for a cameo or two? (Barris is a character who becomes better and better the more I think about him. Weird.)

I wonder, how the hell has TVtropes managed to get a picture of Felix and ser Ruth on its DA:I character page, but not Barris?!

If we go to Rivain or the Anderfels, it is rather likely he might have a cameo IMO. Tevinter is a little harder to see but depending on the plot for a tevinter game, we could see him there.

simple: no one uploaded and changed it so that there is a picture of ser barris.

I know, my question was more on the lines of "I can't believe people have prioritized uploading pictures of those two chumps and not Barris."

Good to know. I'd imagine my next Inquisitor's reaction to the flag ritual would mirror mine in real life:

"Flag raising mechanisms? Come on, this is ****ing ridiculous."

Then I'm really hoping for Rivain or the Anderfels. *crosses fingers until the next location is announced, most likely over a year from now*

I hope so - I would think he'd play a major role in rebuilding the Order in southern Thedas. It seems he's the highest-ranking member left, and he's promoted personally by the Inquisitor, which gives him a lot of influence and respect. So I'm hoping to see him in that role, even if it's just a cameo.

I'm not sure what to say. Did you go back everytime after you recruited someone? That's what I always do. He hasn't died on me yet.

Uuuuuhhhgg I didn't realize he died if you did the quest wrong. I'll have to side with the templars again in another run.

I am till trying to figure out why his missions do not appear for me. Some here say we still get his missions even when we conscript the templars but i have had no such luck. I know abernache living or dying did not make any difference.

In a Tevinter game, he'd show up just as the PC and party were about to get magiced by some Magister and shut that show down.  BOOM.  Another moment of Barris awesome for the books.

Just want to see the look on a Magister's face when they meet a real Templar.

Seriously wish I could've gone with Cullen's templars during that quest. The magisters reaction must've been hilarious.
