Don't get me wrong I wholeheartedly welcome the idea, and why not since BioWare can retcon Leliana's death and they are likely to pull Justice on Anders anyway. I fully approve and wanting Barris and scout Harding to be a companion and LI in the next Dragon Age game.

Holy ****.  Where has this guy been on my other playthroughs?!?  I sided with the mages on my first two playthroughs so I only knew Ser Barris as the cute guy who watches a Mother get punched.  I'm in the middle of the Champions of the Just right now and I love this guy.  Can't wait to see what happens to his story.

It's a real shame, because he would make a decent companion, provided, of course, they give him some backstory. Don't pull a Jacob and just make him stable and don't rock the boat. Let him epouse the ideals of the Templar Order and live them, dammit.

I wish there was an option for both. Get Barris and Fiona both, get some War Table missions with them.

yes we get, I did it in my first playthrough.
The difference between ally promotion and conscript promotion is a few change in the dialogue. When conscripted the inquisitor say "Knight-Commander of our templars" and "rise Knight-Commander Barris" , when allies it change for "Knight-Commander of the templar order" and "Templars, do you accept Barris as your Commander?"

I just promoted him to Knight Commander, one of my best decisions. I am now bros with both the Emperor of Orlais, Knight Commander of the Templars and my girlfriend has become Divine. Just as planned.

My head canon for him in my play through is that he lead the Templars in their migration to join the Seekers quickly being appointed by Cassandra to be their new leader....he'll also get stuck as the messenger between my Inq and Cass as he is one of the few people they would both regularly meet with and trust to carry their love letters.

Ugh, I just assumed he disappeared into the ether if I conscript them. I can't even find him around skyhold. *Godzilla stomps around room*
