Most of the Venatori aren't mages. And since the Venatori don't even lose that many people in In Hushed Whispers, I think the reason they don't attack Haven in that path is not due to a lack of numbers, but because the red templars are simply a better army (while the Venatori specialize in magic and espionage).

well it wouldn't make much sense to hold back your mages when the goal is to utterly wipe out your opponent, and magic is pretty well suited for battles its hardly a solely academic skill

Venatori and red templars never mix, even on Champions of the Just playthroughs. While the Venatori certainly aren't any slouch in combat, the sheer physical deadliness of the red templars makes them a superior fighting force, pound for pound.

My guess is that the red templars simply don't work very well with people who don't have their song resounding in their bones.

I think you are looking too deeply into a gameplay/story segregation

Don't forget how if you side with the mages, the Red Templars are composed of the entire Templar Order which would no doubt vastly increases their numbers. Don't forget how notes show how if you side with the mages, the red templars earn the favor of Corypheus. The venatori are likely forced to walk on thin ice since they failed at Redcliffe.

Also, the Venatori refuse to even get near red lyrium if you side with the templars.

The Venatori seem more like they are better as special forces doing spying, infiltration, and all other kinds of similar activity whereas the red templars are purely an offensive army.

There you have it, then. The Venatori don't show up to attack Haven not because they lack numbers, but because of gameplay/story segregation.

The only way he'd come out of that alive is if he was Red.

Yeah, I guess you're right, but a boy can dream, can't he?

and if you went to Therinfal there's barely any Red Templars at all, what's your point?

Personally I thought both factions should've shown up but one side in greater numbers due to your choice

However that's what happens at the Arbor Wilds, so meh

Certainly, both the Circle of Magi and the Templar Order seem bizarrely shrunken in this game, as one can fit into one village and the other can fit into one castle.

Makes you wonder how tens of thousands of Red Templars somehow managed to sneak by from Therinfal to Haven and nobody noticed.

According to wartable missions, the numbers were out there, but it seems that in both cases the leadership was cut off from the vast majority of their forces.

well both aren't representative of the ENTIRE organizations, Barris mentions that there are still officers and presumably men with them across Thedas, there are some mages who are not part of the Rebellion, those who splintered from the rebellion, and those who stayed loyal

Haven and the Mage/Templar choice are my only large issues with the game. The former because I just don't think they gave it quite the sense of gravity that it could have had, and the latter because so much of the repercussions seem to be designed to strengthen the impression of how much your choices matter, to the point of excess. Why would Corypheus so limit his fighting force to one type?

However, I realize resources are a development issue here, so I'm not going to moan too much about it.

Strange how if you side with the mages, during the attack on Haven Cole kills a Venatori brute yet Red Templars are the only forces you fight. Just assume there are some Venator/Red Templars with the majority army.

This is most likely correct, as you see members of both forces as you continue in the story, regardless of your choice.

What bothers me more is that Fiona died like a nobody if you recruited the Templars instead. If i didn't accidentally use the tactical cam i wouldn't have realised that the corpse Cassandra was standing on was her.

Could've had a small cutscene for Fiona and Denem appearing :P

Or someone commenting on that being Fiona

Really, that should have been Alexius instead. It would have been a better parallel with Denam.

Seriously though. She's Alistair's mom! How she goes out like that is a little anticlimactic. That dude in JP who was eaten by that t-rex while sitting on a toilet had a better send off.

She should have been given at least a quick cutscene, even if ever so brief, definitely.

Nah, Alexius parallels the Envy Demon in terms of his role (being the main enemy of their respective quests).

Denam does sort of parallel Fiona as he is the main culprit in turning over his allies to Corepheus' forces. (Though she is FAR less responsible for such action than Denam is. Still, the roles are similar enough).

To take it one step further, the closest parallel to Barris in the mage quest would be Connor, being one who questions the actions of his superiors and defies Corypheus' plans. (Well, sort of. He pretty much just kills himself to avoid posession, but it still parallels well enough in my eyes.)

I had Vivienne in my party at the time, I feel like she should of had an opinion on killing Fiona. I am not a Fiona fan, but she should of at least gotten a cutscene, especially if you never went and found out what was going on in Redcliff.

Frankly, I do believe that's the fitting end for Fiona. :P Joking aside, I agree it was anticlimactic and both Fiona, and even Denam deserve at least a quick cutscene.
