No its not, but I dont see the problem of them not wanting to follow Vivienne, its their choice.
If they start doing bad things I will see this as a problem.

Which goes to show both sides are equal and really not so fifferent. Funny how giving either a chance to redeem themselves winds up being best and leads to a good ending for that faction

We never hear the details of the conversation between the templar and Cassandra. For all we know he might actually have had proof to support his concern. 

 

 

 

Also, Barris is a Knight-Commander, leader of a group of Templars, not Knight-Vigilant. How is Barris being Knight-Commander going to prevent another Meredith or Lambert from appearing in some other nation?

 

We don't know how exactly the Knight-Vigilant is chosen. Perhaps they are selected by the divine herself out of all possible Knight-Commander candidates? Or perhaps the Knight-Commanders themselves elect the KV. Either way I believe Barris have a pretty good shot at becoming the new KV.

 

may be wrong but I assumed that the lyrium is also an issue here. Serving a mage divine may go against their faith but I can see Viv refusing to comply with the 'no lyrium leash' the way Cas would. She wants to be the one in control of everything, which would include leashing the templars.

 

 

Personally I don't like the idea of an independent Templar order because of lack of accountability but nothing in the epilogues indicates they become 'evil mage hunters' in this case either. The endings seem to be left intentionally vague...

 

I think you raise a good point.

 

We know that the templars are willing to serve Vivienne if she becomes divine as long as the Seekers are restored. And we also know that they only want to return to serve Cassandra on the condition she does not leash them again with lyrium if the Seekers are disbanded. I think we can take from this that while Vivienne being a mage was a factor in leaving in the "Silver Shield" ending, it was not the only one, Vivienne being unwilling to compromise with regards to the lyrium leash seems to be an plausible additional factor that helped pushed them into refusing to serve in the new templar order.

 

That does not mean I approve of their decision though, it seems a recipe for strife down the road.

I don't like the idea of entirely independent institutions for either the mages or the templars. They need to be accountable to someone and a reformed Chantry seems like the only solution presented. Its not ideal but its something. Either way I think Barris has a good chance of helping to get the templars on the right track and they will probably be needed to deal with whatever magical catastrophe befalls Thedas next...

I had an ending where I allied with the Templars, encouraged Cullen to stop taking lyrium, Cassandra rebuilt the Seekers, and had Vivienne as a Divine.  The Templars served her, though many refused to take lyrium, following Cullen's example.  They form the core of the rebuilt Seekers of Truth.

I'd also say that as Knight Commander, Ser Barris becomes the highest ranking surviving Templar.  He's essentially running the whole thing as its de facto leader, (assuming you didn't disband the Order).
