The thing is he does not brush aside the failings of the Order. He acknowledges the order has problems, faults and has strayed from what it is supposed to do. Then after acknowledging the order's failings, he goes about and works to fix them.

He stops peasents from lynching mages

He protects mages who just wanted to hide in their tower and not join the war.

He protects everyone when abominations and demons get loose and threaten a town.

In short he works to try and be a good templar and succeds.

So, do you think that if he hadn't been at Therinfal, he'd have joined the Inquisition and worked with the rebel mages?

Ser Barris is one of the main reasons I'm happy I sided with the templars in my main playthrough

He's the best

In Val Royeaux, the templars assault a chantry sister and tell him not to question in general - I don't know why he decides to follow them to Therinfall Redoubt after that. That puzzles me. In that moment, do you think he thought he could fix it despite what he saw from the Lord Seeker in the market?

If you did CotJ you would know why he returned. Barris led all the sane templars left and was planning to leave with them, that is why him and all the others where to be purged, not captured and fed more lyruim. Him and others had become a threat.

Yeah I do because he has never shown any dislike for mages, he risked his own life to save mages from mobs and the war.

Barris being voiced by the same actor who voiced Broche just made it better.

Oh, no wonder I wanted to bang him!

Aha.

Note that this won't change my decision to never, ever play Champions of the Just; even if it was out of curiosity, I wouldn't want to pollute Bioware's telemetry. However, if he is such a decent templar, than I'm sure he'd be pleased that I'm engaging in his Maker-given duty to protect the mages, given his own inability to do so.

That was his commanding officer giving him a direct order, how else was he suppose to react?

The Templar Order is a military organisation, to do anything other than obey would be gross insubordination.

But the moment they are away from civilians, he openly questions everything, especially why the hell they are sitting on their arses while demons spew from the sky.

So yes, the fact he left with them proves nothing really, simply that he respects his organisation and its hierarchy.

I don't see how him questioning his commander and making a scene in public would somehow make he seems a worthier person.

In fact questioning in public there would have had disastrous results.

Yep, one of the nobles at the beginning of Champions calls him by his full name and sasses him about being only a second son in a family of minor nobility. He ignores the jerk like a champ.

How? If the envy demon had attacked or something, that would be it plus two red templars, vs. Barris' people and the Herald's party. The entire issue could have been settled immediately, the red templars would be cut off, and then the Venatori could be stopped at Redcliffe and Corypheus would have taken a huge blow immediately.

Certainly. He has zero issues with mages as long as they don't hurt anyone. He strikes me as the type who wants to the Templars to become an order that protects mages more than watch over them. Let them police themselves. But step in if theirs some sort of disturbance. Still have them live in a circle. But make the circle more of a community for mages rather than a prison.

I looked up his name, it's old French. meaning "Son of a King or Servant of the King."

I don't expect you to know military procedure.

Then, as before, I'm sure he'll be pleased by my choosing to protect the mages at Redcliffe.

I forget his first name but I do know he's the youngest son of a lesser noble.

Did anyone else notice the guy who said this line is totally Henselt?

It is not unlike the second dispersion of the reclaimed Dales.

@Xil, I'm sure he would. Barris isn't the type to b*tch, nor does he have entitlement issues. He do what must be done. Glad to have him onboard. :)

Barris dies fighting and killing Envy, so why are you having this conversation?

Or maybe, instead him and his order can help me protect the sensible, intelligent, loyalist mages who joined us rather than the dumb, brain dead d-bags who sold themselves into slavery, which somehow is their...rebellious act against oppression?

Yeah....

Yeah, he's dead if you side with the mages. I imagine either the demon or the red templars got him. As I doubt they would of gotten him take red lyrium.

He was on the purge list and we never encounter him so he most likely fell during the battle at Redoubt without the Inquisitors aid.

Well, I'm at least glad that he didn't become a Red Templar. He died fighting.
