There should be a 'Most Fan Tears Shed in a Single Game' award, and Bioware would win it every year by default :D

Spoiler

Congratulations though, Bioware :)

Seriously though, you could probably drown the world--it's all your fault, BioWare! I trusted you!

Congrats, BioWare, you deserve it. :)

Congratulations!  :wizard:

I personally think that the "Best RPG" should have gone to Divinity Original Sin.

Just FYI: There is no standard award ceremony -- maybe GDC.

Second to that Spike is probably the most popular one,  Then there is this guy who used to host a game trailers show on G4TV who started this award show this year.  So this is some random award.

I mean I would like to see them win, but this particular GOTY means jack all.  I'd rather see them win at GDC or Spike.

/I also have awarded myself Player of the Universe.

I did a 100 % run on that game just before inquisition and i can agree. But not everyone enjoys tons of reading and turn-based combat so there is that.

Oh yes, they have perfected the tear harvesting. On completely unrelated note, do you think DA 4 will be called DA: Wolf hunt? Will there be hurtful references based on your choises in game? Only time will tell, but I'm sure whatever happens, they will still win this award again.

My concern is that DA:I wins GoTY and Best RPG, but doesn't even place on the Best Narrative category. It could be argued that it could have been a contender in Action Adventure too.

No real skin off my ass either way but BioWare games are about stories after all....not having it even contend in the Narrative category should probably be a concern for the sweating blood the writers did trying to keep this whole thing working.

The Spike VGAs no longer exist. BioWare just won their replacement.

Why did you link to something and then copy paste the entire thing you linked?

Also, people who use the word "hater" are fools. We should eat them.

It's been a pretty great year for RPGs just most of them go under the radar at these sort of things because they are not AAA games from a multi million dollars publisher/developer.

2014 we have had Blackguards, The Banner Saga, South Park Stick of Truth, Shadowrun Dragonfall, Divinity Original Sin, Wasteland 2 and possibly even Reaper of Souls if you count Diablo as an RPG. I would probably picked Original Sin as the one I enjoyed the most since it was the most creative of the bunch but as said... big titles from studios such as Ubisoft or Bioware will always win the awards no matter what they are up against.

I wouldn't be shocked if somehow Assassin's creed Unity or Watchdogs manage to somehow win a few rewards in some categories despite being mediocre at best.

Congrats to Bioware!

For me, Bayo 2 would've been a more suiting winner though.

All of them had problems.

Wasteland 2 is currently being panned as "boring as ****" and "soulless". Divinity OS just had a great combat system, which pleased people at RPGcodex but disappoints others looking for more. The original Shadowrun had problems which was fixed in Daggerfall (where we suddenly got a hub and companions,) but not fully and so that was once again improved on in the new Director's Cut version. South Park WAS AAA. The Banner Saga is a good game but has issues, for example corrupting save points which forces some people to replay large segments of the game. Blackguards is just a combat system, great for people who dig tactical combat but boring for everyone else.

Diablo is Diablo...

Pillars of Eternity is currently being laughed at because of Sawyer's emphasis on "balance" and no combat XP... just in case you were going to bring that one up.

not much of a game line up and of course DA:I would win. Now if they had released Witcher 3 this year it would of won hands down. Now they delayed that game till May 2015.....:(

Not  only did Bioware win this one, but they did it the year when Game Awards was finally a show worthy of its name. Well deserved too. I bet all other VGA winners from past years are envious as **** though. TGA actually felt like a show about the gaming industry designed for the gaming industry and not video gaming aping hollywood or MTV crap. Gaming finally feels like it's recognized as its own unique medium to the mainstream.

I am biassed as I would have made Bravely Default best RPG since it sparked a lot of life into the Classic JRPG genre.

Well that is kinda silly thing to say about a game thats not released jet and noebody knows for certain how good exactly it will be once its finished, its not like publishers never promise something prerelease that doesnt end up like promised in final product. I mean sure it is possibile Witcher 3 will be an epic game but thats just guessing and riding the hype train.

Now to get back to orginial subject congrats Bioware i do think you deserved it, despite some of the flaws DAI has currently(which will hopefully be fixed via patches/future dlc/expansions)

Disagree it was a great year for the RPG genre.  Shadowrun, Divinity Original Sin, Wasteland 2, etc etc.  And the first quarter of 2015 brings us the open world Witcher
