Hi All,

I have not picked up evade and was wondering if it drops aggro, and if you really think it is worth the points investment?  level 12 Nightmare assassin, party is 1 dps mage, 1 tank, 1 control mage.

Evade, Combat Roll and Fade Step are all nearly mandatory to pick up. For a DW rogue Evade gives you:

1) Movement to reach enemies quicker.

2) Movement to avoid a fireball

3) Movement to get away from a melee

4) Movement to avoid pesky Lesser Terrors AoE attack

It doesn't drop aggro however. But worth the point? No other ability is worth a point as much as Evade/FadeStep/CombatRoll

As Matth85 says it doesn't drop aggro but its upgrade does leave behind an image that the enemies will attack instead. Apparently the image hurts them? Never got the upgrade but seen folks use it in MP. Only time aggro is really an issue is if nothing else but you have generally hurt the enemy. But you could, for instance, use the skill to jump past your tank dragging the enemy to him that way (after the 3 second after-image is gone). Probably give you enough time to stealth or get its attention off you.

It's very useful, to the point where I feel like each of the 3 classes should have been given their "dodge" ability automatically. Particularly useful for first playthrough before you learn all the enemy attacks and so on. This is all assuming you're playing on higher difficulties.

That said, as a Rogue you can a few other skills to avoid/evade, too.

It doesn't drop aggro.

And for the record, I don't use it.

Grapple Chain changes this game immeasurably.

I've never had aggro issues as a DW Rogue. That dash maneuver that puts you in stealth and/or the aggro reduction passive is all you need. That grapple chain is a god send. Flying all over the field makin' it rain!

Sometimes it can be buggy but that's pretty rare. I've gone entire dragon fights dropping 1.2k auto attack crits with 8-10k crit bombs on specials (not including thousand cuts) and never pull aggro off Cass.

Just gotta make sure your tank is built proper with appropriate tactics and behaviors.

Hook and Tackle (is this to what you were referring right? Or were you talking about Grappling Chain of a warrior? Two different behaviors; the former brings you to the enemy, the latter the enemy to you), is a very good skill and it is very fun to go from one place to another with it. The only issue I have with it is that damn backflip move at the end that makes you lose precious time repositioning correctly. If you would flip forward, to go behind an enemy instead it would be much better. Sadly you cannot have everything.

However I find the skill more useful for a Tempest than an Assassin; for the latter - even if buggy - I still prefer Flank Attack. I really hope Bioware resolves the issues with it.

I agree, and at the very least the stamina cost should be much lower.

But I have to ask, do you need it to drop aggro?  I mean with easy to miss, stealth, stealth flanking, etc, you pretty much just need to step out of melee and maybe take cover for a sec to drop aggro.  But I spam the **** out of evade to get around the battlefield, fairly quick cooldown, And I also use flank attack to move around combat when It feels like a touchdown.

If you are already level 12 then and made it so far, they are unlikely to do much for you. I went through all of Nightmare with 3 Melee + 1 Mage and didn't pick up a single "active" dodge ability. They are largely unnecessary against 99% of all enemies. They only really have use against certain bosses. Just keep your gear up to date and use barrier well and you'll be fine, especially with 2 mages. They essentially just take you off target and waste time, while barrier does not. If you want to tank/keep a boss busy to avoid incoming damage just use shield wall. I admit though, that if I ever bother to replay the game again I'd pick them up pre Skyhold just to make Envy/Pride demon easier to deal with, but I would respec out of them afterwards.

Pick up upgraded Flank Attack for your Assassin instead.
