Hey guys,I'm starting Dragon Age : Inquisition next week and I wanted to get the novels there are.

What book should I get?. I played DA:O and DA:2 so I know the main lore of DA but I don't remember it very well now, last time I played DA:O was 2 years ago!.
So,which one should I get for Inquisition?.

Asunder and The Masked Empire are the ones that are most connected to Inquisition.

Asunder deals with the mage/templar conflict and introduces a companion.

The Masked Empire deals with Orlesian politics and introduces several major characters within Orlesian nobility.

Is Asunder ''stand-alone'' or it's connected to the other books?.

I read the two relating to Origins, the stolen throne, and I can't remember the title of the other one.  They were very good.   At this moment I am at the end of Asunder, which is a very good read and leads up to the events of the Inquisition.

Asunder is mainly stand alone, but has characters from, and relates to Origins history..

There is one major character from The Calling in it but The Stolen Throne & The Calling are the only two that are really closely connected.

I am halfway through Asunder. It's actually really good. It features Cole.

Guess I'll get Asunder then considering I already know Origins more or less.

David Gaider writes a very good book, I love them all.  It's a shame he didn't have more control over the games.

Hmm, are the books written in such a way that their story can be interpreted as canon with no matter what world state?

Like everyone has said, Masked Empire and Asunder. I liked DAME more, though. It gives you insight into Orlais that helps you more when you make a decision in the game.

Kinda?  I mean somethings would change around in Asunder but I think it's implied that the events would still happen.

Of Inquisition?  For the most part it's been received VERY well.  The BSN is more negative than most places, and even most people here admit it's a pretty fun game.

Personally, I'm loving it.

I think The Masked Empire is the best one, hands down (I think it's better than DG's books). Patrick Weekes is one of the best writers Bioware has, and it stands on it's own in that its proves to be a good fantasy book, as opposed to a good videogame tie-in book. Provides a ton of context for one of the biggest missions in the game as well.

The name of the person who last posted, "TommyServo", caught my attention, so I decided to read this thread. *lol*

...and I happen to have a way to help those that want an easy refresher on the series & books before DAI: There's a podcast, "Dragon Age: Off the Record" that covers pretty much everything leading up to this game.

...and on ep 9 there's even a song to help refresh on the history of DAO. Just for fun.

Ok. Slinking back into my own little world, now.

Stolen Throne and the Calling are about time before DAO. They are both great book, first featuring Maric and Loghain as mains, second Maric, Duncan and Fiona (in DAI too), all are pretty important characters for DA lore.

Asunder is about mage vs templar war. It happens after DA2 and before DAI and the place is Orlais. Main characters are Cole (companion in DAI), Rhys and Evangeline. I'm not sure if other two are in Inquisition but I haven't heard they are so I guess not.

The Masked Empire is about Orlesian politics, elf rights and time before civil war. It intertwines with Asunder in it's time line and some happenings though it has fully different characters. Briala, Celene, Michel and Gaspard.. who all are in DAI.

I haven't read Last Flight but it's about grey wardens I guess and timing is after DAI.

I recommend reading all of cource but both Asunder and the Masked Empire are important in sense of DAI and happenings that have let in current worldstate in the game. They both have characters too who are in DAI.
