Enough with these bossfights.

It's time for the point in the game that I dreaded the most: The final boss battle. Yes. The point we all love, where the game punishes you for bringing the wrong companions by zapping your entire party to death with a red beam of doom.

Corypheus teleports around and spouts his hollywood kliché nonsense, while I yawn and chisel away at his infinite health bar. 33 percent down, the screen goes black to initiate a cutscene. But it gets stuck in an infinite load screen, so I have to shut down the game and start over.

Oh well ... At least the journey was more fun than the final destination.

I agree that the fight against Corypheus is one of the weakest parts of the game, both in story and gameplay. At Haven, Corypheus was actually somewhat interesting and had a personality beyond "I'm evil. I'm going to destroy the world." At the end, not any more.

To say nothing of the gazillion hit points we have to remove three times in a row. This fight is exemplary for explaining why I tend to hate video game boss fights.

I thought it was too easy? Also, no technical problems like that since I turned off certain things in the graphics. You weren't playing a melee character, were you? I can totally digress if that is the case, because he kept teleporting (poor Cassie).

The Dragon boss fights are fun and exquisite.

The whole Cory fight was rushed and boring, no epic speech, no involvement of other companions in the last fight like Mass Effect 2 or Dragon Age 1. Could have been done a lot better.

Regardless, I don't agree. Loved the fight, loved the villain. Loved kicking his arse. Loved the battle music, shite I loved all the music in this game. That's a first, not even Skyrim, Morrowind, Oblivion music does that for meh.

Sometimes bad guys are just bad guys. There are real-life equivalents.

Yup. I'm a melee rogue, and now the game punishes me for choosing that specialisation. Cassandra is also along, since she's my love interest, but all she can do is wave at Coryphenus while he is up on the wall. I also brought Dorian, since he's my good mate, but he uses fire, and Coryphenus has fire resistance.

'mkay ...

It's bad enough that the fight has a gamebreaking bug, but it was done much better in Legacy with the statues and the fire. That was ingenious.

The gazillion hit points bosses are the worst part of modern Bioware games. It's not interesting to hit something for 15-30 minutes and watch the health slowly creep down a millimeter at the time. Especially not when it jumps back to full once or twice along the way.

Worst part is that it makes the entire thing feel so much like a game that any sense of story is lost several times over before the end. It's simply impossible to keep the story immersion when there is this HUGE health bar at the top of the screen that we need to reduce to zero.

A boss fight doesn't need to be super long to be interesting. I rather have a hard boss fight that hits like a truck and only takes a few minutes to kill over then do a boss fight that can best be described has hitting a concrete wall with a hammer and watching bits and pieces fall off now and then.

Yes, that final fight was bad. I can dodge his red beam pretty well.... my companions on the other had... meh. It is annoying for melee characters.

The last Bioware game with a great final mission was ME2... I fail to understand how Bioware manage to fall so far since.  :(

Chipping away at a zillion hit points?  I thought the fight was incredibly easy.  Killing his dragon was harder than killing him.  The fight itself was fine.  You don't want something to be too hard imo.  It just didn't feel as epic as fighting the Archdemon did.  Because there was the backdrop of a whole darkspawn army around it.

I was a rogue assassin (melee) and was hitting him for about 5k each hit, he went down like a chump. Health bar definitely didn't seem infinite to me.

Characters and fate is what it's all about.

I can understand that the boss fight at the end is indifferent or stereotypic?
I also read through the lines in this forum that there are decisions to make and dilemmas to attend to?

Are there any indication that the end is the beginning to a new chapter perhaps (sequel)?

The most important thing for me are the fates of the characters and the story line.

I don't care for a boss fight. It is in general boring. RPG is not about combat but Role Playing.

On purpose I haven't played the entire game. I stopped when I was about 75% through.
When the outcome is unknown to me the game is more exiting and interesting. I am on my second 'playthrough', still witout an ending in sight.

Yes. It's especially fun when the entire party runs through the pools of death. Yes, Dorian. Fire is hot, which means you shouldn't stand in it. Cassandra? Corypheus is over there. Stop standing in the aoe and scratching your bum.

*sigh*

I've seen pollen forecasts that were more epic than this <_<

"Boss fights" are one of the archaic remnants of ancient gaming that players have been programmed to think games require.

Just once I want to see a boss fight go like this:

I agree, although him saying he would take Sera's ears made me laugh.

It would have been nice to at least see some more involvement of the companions. I think Coryphetits spoke briefly to Dorian about Tevinter, but apart from that, there was nothing engaging about it. My companions were just there to die from his aoe and chug down all my health potions, I guess.

Nothing was at stake for me to care about.

You know I bet no one would think the final battle was easy if they didn't give you a potion supply between waves. I would have died a few times if so.

Right. And when Coffeetits yelled "Let it end now!", I couldn't agree more.

It's always nice to see the old-style Bullet Sponge boss being kept alive in these modern times. Now if only I could circle-strafe on my mage...

If that fight takes more than 10 mins on any difficulty then you either went in under-geared/leveled or your just not using and combining skills efficiently. You should be critting in the 6-8k range easily at minimum for most skills by that point. When you start chaining detonators at that point there should be some serious melting going on.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but, I thought it would be possible to express the argument contained in the op without using a word that is hurtful and offensive to a whole bunch of people, myself included. I tried expressing this opinion in a polite manner, without attacking anyone. You might not share my view on this but I disagree that it is self-righteousness to say so. BSN is a community I love and value and I believe it matters what we consider to be OK in communities we identify with.
