Is friendly fire worth turning on in your opinion?

No.
Game is not balanced around it at all. It's just annoying to have on; not challenging. As a ranges setup, it doesn't even matter. One a melee setup it murders your melee dps, or it lowers your group dps. Neither adds any "fun" to the game.
I did 1 playthrough with it. Not turning it on ever again.

I've been playing with it ON since the start, so I don't know what having it OFF feels like. Honestly, I don't even notice it being there, since I don't use AoE abilities or other such abilities that much. If I do, then I use care.
What's annoying is that enemies can just walk over their own spells and AoE attacks. Very unfair. In DAO and even DA2 enemies could hit themselves. I wish they fixed that.
Also, some AoE abilities DON'T cause FF; it's actually extremely random which abilities cause FF and which don't. It's all trial and error.

This is my feeling as well, glad some else seems to have confirmed it.

It works nothing like Origins, or even DA2. Turn it off unless your pride can't take it. And like it has been said above, it doesn't make things more difficult, it just stops you from using certain abilities/shoehorns you into specific builds. Using Firestorm well in 2 was often a pain on nightmare, but it could be done. In Inquisition, chain lightning essentially becomes unusable with FF on.

So I gave up on FF and went to nightmare instead.

I'm very torn on this too. I like friendly fire in principle as it helps with immersion and adds a bit of challenge. So I turned it on. But I really don't feel that this game balances it well at all. I played with it on in both previous DA games, but it never felt this much of a pure handicap before. I've been running it for my first playthrough (which I've not completed yet) but I'm pretty sure I'll be turning it off for my second, and I honestly expect a better experience. It's a shame, but there it is.

No. Things like Friendly Fire seems to be a poorly implemented after-thought. Who thought it was a good idea to make enemies immune to friendly fire and then making our party and their skillset to not be the case ?
I think friendly fire was done this way, done so poorly, on purpose, so that in the next game, Bioware can say "Hey, we included Friendly Fire for DAI but no one used it so we will not be having it on anymore."
Friendly Fire in DAI = Half-arsed job.

I also find it poorly implemented tbh. I will probably do a game with it turned on if they offer an achievement for it at some point though.
I'm guessing it would be fine it you want to play a solo KE ![]()

As far as difficulty goes it depends on your party makeup. If you're running a 2H Warrior with ANY other melee classes then it makes the game a lot harder. If you're doing the standard Tank/3 Ranged DPS it makes virtually no difference; you just aim to place your AoE effects a little more carefully and not use Chain Lightning ever.
Since friendly fire only effects you an doesn't effect your enemies it's kinda pointless as an immersion/realism aid, so I don't see any reason to have it on.

Currently not playing with it on, during my NM run.
If enemies were affected by their own "friendly fire", I'd turn it back on in a heartbeat.

I am playing Nightmare with Friendly Fire on and I really enjoy it. De gustibus non est disputandum.

Well, if you want to increase your difficulty at any cost, then yes, it's "worth it."
Otherwise, No.

I have it on, but I might turn it off for later playthroughs. As others have said, it's just not very well implemented. It's harder to micro to use efficiently, the tactics are a wach, there's no rhyme or reason as to which abilities actually cause Friendly Fire, and they've stopped listing whether an ability is subject to it altogether.

This is basically how I feel about it. I honestly like it as a concept, but it's so poorly implemented that it's not worth it. Pretty much the only way to play with it on is to use single-target abilities almost exclusively. It might be different if the AI was smarter.

Not advised during your first play through,
However once familiar with game mechanics (and to mostly boost your pride) you can try to finish a play through with FF on. However, it really lock you down to some team composition, and build.
