Dear Gamers,

Ever since we started working on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we knew it would be an ambitious game. We wanted, and still aim, to give you an incredible experience, an epic adventure in a vast, completely open fantasy universe.

The sheer size and complexity of The Witcher, key features of the title, have had a decisive impact on production. Now, nearing the end of our work, we see many details that need to be corrected. When we release the most important game in our studio’s history, we must be absolutely sure that we did everything we could to limit any bugs to a level that will allow you to enjoy the game thoroughly.

With this in mind, we took another look at current workloads and what they mean for the team. Even though everyone is working at full speed, we concluded that we need another 12 weeks, so we are shifting the release date of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to May 19th, 2015.

We owe you an apology. We set the release date too hastily. It’s a hard lesson, one to take to heart for the future. We know what we want to do to make Wild Hunt one of the best RPGs you will ever play. And we continue to work hard to achieve just that. So, we apologize and ask for your trust.

Thank you for the all support you show us on a daily basis. We truly do appreciate it. It has fueled us in our passion since the start and will continue to do so.

The Board of CD PROJEKT SA

The delay really doesn't bother me. I imagine some might be starting to get a bit upset.

probably only people who are just really anxious for the game. It does have a lot to offer and such. So hype has been intense.

If they need some extra time to make the game amazing and minimize bugs, I'm fine with waiting.

What if they repeat it again the 15 May and say - Sorry , but we need another 6 month. Would you  keep the same opinion ? I think it just getting a bit silly. They need to stop announcing the game release date if they can't keep their parole Personally I would cancel my pre-order at this point. because at this point I would not believe them anymore and would move on and put my money elsewhere.

Imagine if every developer would do this ? Would you agree with it ? If you can agree with them doing it. Than you can agree with all the dev doing it. Just announce some date for the lulz and keep reporting it until the real release date.

I hope that not every dev start doing this. That would get ugly real quick. If you don't beleive you can put your game out in a certain amount of time. Than don't announce it for that date.

The idea that because I agree with one delay that I should agree with every delay ever is just ridiculous, as is the idea that developers throw out release dates just for the hell of it and delay it "for the lulz". Nobody really wants to delay a game.

The developers did think that they could get the game out by the release date that they gave before and it turns out they were wrong. Should they release a buggy mess because people are upset that they have to wait a bit longer?

The only way to be 100% certain you wont need to delay your release date is to not announce one until you have finished the game, which would make the time between announcement and release extremely small.

This actually works well for me, as it means more time to upgrade computer and replay the first two games.

I think you're getting that mixed up with GTA V.

I think dev's should take Hideo Kojima's approach to release dates and only announce one when they're 100% sure they'll get it done on that day.

I don't know if you knew, but it was actually delayed before. So this is the second delay (and a full quarter delay at that, if I remember correctly). I imagine that's why the other poster was upset.

As for me, I wasn't bothering to follow the game at all so it doesn't concern me. I have plenty of other stuff to play in the meantime.

Pretty much all AAA games take way too long, so whatever, it's the same deal. I feel like criticizing them would mean having to criticize pretty much every other major gaming company.

If I was subsisting only off major games with super HD graphics I'd have run out of games to play in January.

Moreover they're mostly just brain damaged by the arms race impact of games like Skyrim that say if you don't have ninety million quests and 5000 hours of content you aren't worth the box or disc that came inside it.

Good.

I need this game to be perfect in every single way possible.

I need this to be the best damn game I've played since Planescape: Torment.

So good on you CDPR, make the best f*cking game in existence and don't you rush yo' sh*t.

Because it's gonna be more painful than waiting a few more months if this game turns out to be a piece of slimy sh*t.

Tch. Pretty obvious that CDPR wanted to get as much distance between Witcher 3 and the reigning Game of the Year.

Think about it, DA:I wins GotY at the Dewritos Awards and now they decide Witcher 3 is delayed. No coincidence. CDPR are shitting themselves.

Don't know how to take that.

But I'm 75% sure The Witcher 3 will roflstomp all over DA:I.

And I love DA:I.

I don't think The Witcher 3 should be afraid of anything other than its own failure.

I think Iwinsky and co. will have to be more careful not only in their planning but in their interviews. It's hard to believe they were all grins last summer saying the game would arrive on time in the fall. Then they delay and he straight up says: "No more delays, were not noobs." Then they delay again...you can only do this so many times before people stop listening. I think they stuffed in so many new features and made it so big they're simply behind schedule, even with more than double the number of people on the game. I also find it interesting they're obsessed with hitting a deadline for TW3 but Cyberpunk will be 'done when it's done.'

Probably because they're so close to completion on TW3 and it's in the spotlight. Kind of like DA I and ME4. DA got delayed but they had real dates, ME4 is some nebulous "it's still years away" nonsense.

I'm not really a dev (just dabbled a little bit in Unity), but it seems to me that in some ways the hardest parts of game development--making everything mesh together--is last. The beginning is concepts and asset creation, then they move on to systems and scripting which is way more involved (and has more knock-on effects).

Eh not a problem for me, I'll have Bloodborne to keep me occupied gaming wise for the whole of 2015 and beyond. The Witcher 3 will simply be a sweet treat later on in the summer.

Subjective really. I think it will probably have the better story, characters, quests and world but I'm not sure about gameplay. There's going to many people who will still prefer Inquisition as well, I'm sure, for the freedom it gives you in terms of having your own character and ability to customize them.

Basically, when it comes to story, choices, characters and quests, I agree that The Witcher 3 will probably "roflstomp" DA:I (in fact I'm certain it will as DA:I's side quests are all fetch quests, the dialogue of certain companions is just cringe-worthy and some characters are just badly developed - Sera comes to mind here in particular) but in terms of customization, class building and combat? The Witcher 3 will be far behind if we go by what we've seen in the past two Witcher games. Inquisition did very good in those areas especially with the crafting system (which I actually find enjoyable). Just my opinion of course and currently based on what we've seen of The Witcher 3.

W3WH will end up coming out in August or September 2016 for PS4 and Xbox One. The PC version will be out November 2015.

Upsetting news. So tired of the goddamn delays these days. Whatever, if it allows them to perfect the game more then it's worth the wait. I'm positive it'll blow everything out of the water anyway and easily be the GOTY of 2015.

Somewhat disappointed because I have little else to play in Q1 2015, but certainly not angry about it either.
