It kind of works. Isn't Josephine supposed to be really naive when it comes to love? Well, not counting his plot twist, Blackwall is a knight straight out of a fairy tale. I can see Josephine going for that.

She's been dealing with orlesian nobles for years, she should recognize bullshit when she sees it. He will swing for such breaking of the man code. That's my Josie even if I am romancing Cassandra this go round.

From what I can understand he does duel Lord Otranto. Though the even is not shown since it is one of those time gap events that happen off scene.

 

He was after all a Chevalier before he became Blackwall.

Shipping aside, I really saw her and Cullen as the two most likely to pair up (besides Bull and Dorian) if not romanced. That would probably cause a lot of Josie hate, though.

No, they don't end up together. Rainier has feelings towards Josephine, but it never goes anywhere since he never actually does anything about it. Saying they are a couple is like saying Carrver and Merrill or Bethany and Sebastian are couples. He also doesn't duel Lord Otranto.

I don't think anything happens between them, but in my first playthrough, Josephine definitely showed interest in him.  In the ambient advisor dialogue during the War Table, there was a discussion between Josephine and Leliana where Leliana was teasing Josephine about Blackwall's crush on her.  She responded with a giggle and telling Leliana to knock it off (worded much nicer, obviously), but then ended it with something like, "but he is charming....." or something to that effect.  I do think that, given more time, the two of them could end up together.  She clearly takes a while to warm up to a potential LI, so I think that this is what we're seeing.  I don't think she's uninterested.  I'll just say that.

Pure? She's a former Bard from the game who killed a boy she went to school with. Yeah she was sorry after the fact, but she is not innocent or naive.
