I figured out why my Inquisitor stays so slim...he gets on horse, rides about 5 steps, gets off horse, fights, gets back on horse to repeat over and over....does it ever get to a point where you can actually "ride" the horse for a bit before having to get off again? I have found that I don't use the horse much anymore for this reason yet I would love to...it's soothing to me

Hissing wastes

This. Also, I do use the horses in other zones to hunt down shards. Once you've done a lot of quests in an area, many of the enemies stop spawning. In the Hinterlands, I see a few bears and maybe a few random bandits, but it's largely a peaceful area now that I've cleaned it up.

I wish there was a key for picking up Elfroot and daisies while riding. That's how I end up with a tonne of crafting ingredients in Skyrim... Plus, mounted combat :D
