.. and it starts frustrating me.

It's now almost two weeks. Two weeks ago I finished my first playthrough of Dragon Age Inquisition. My character was.. well.. a lot of things were not where they are supposed to be I guess. Every time the camera came close my Inquisitor looked like some sort of a bubble head.. or alien.

Yeah.. and now it's two weeks since I wish to play this game again. This time I want to do just everything in this game. The first time it was all about the story, now it should be all about exploration, lore and uncovering every secret there is in this game. You may already have guessed it.. there is one thing that stopped me from my second playthrough: It's my characters face..

Dragon Age Origins character creator was already a nightmare for me. It was a simple editor but I still hat a lot of trouble with it when it came to creating a decent looking male human. I always have these problems. This is why I was very grateful for games like Dragon Age 2 and Mass Effect. There Bioware gave us some really good looking presets. I've tried it a few times to make my own faces in both games, failed, and decided to use these default faces all the time.

Dragon Age Inquisition does not offer good looking presets for human males.. in my opinion. Thank's to this my last two weeks experience with Dragon Age Inquisition looked like this:

- worked for at least one hour on a new face

- double checked if everything looks alright

- started the game

- I was very exited that I finally got a character who actually looks like a human being..

- arrived in Haven

- saw the first dialogue/cutscene in Havens church

- realized that my inquisitors head once again looks like a bubble head or that his eyes are not where they should be..

- checked again with the second dialogue/cutscene in Havens church

- deleted my character

- started all over..

I'm at a point where I say that it's getting really really frustrating for me. I don't want my character to look perfect.. but I at least wish that he doesn't look like one of those "monsters" from "Wrong turn".. :(

Something like this would be awesome: http://forum.bioware...ere/?p=17969674But I don't even get close to a face like his. So.. yeah..

I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a few tips in how to make a good looking human male character.. I think my first choices are always already the wrong ones. I always chose Head 1 and face shape no. 1 as well. I just figured it's easy to work with this face shape but I think it also is what causes these bubble heads all the time.

Please help me. I'm not smart enough for this tool.. and it really starts to ruin this game for me because of my characters looks :(

Oh, and sorry. I was told my english is pretty bad. I hope it was at least good enough so you guys could understand everything I wrote in here.. :)

Have you checked out the slider thread?

http://forum.bioware...ruggle-with-cc/

I ask because I was in the same boat, but after identifying and trying a few faces there to get a feel for what they are doing, I understand a lot better how to make a more natural looking face.   Cheekbones, cheeks, eyes, nose, jaw, chin... there are too many things that need to be tweaked to make a face more natural. IN THE CREATOR they always look "off" and I doubt it's going to look good, but it turns out good..  in the lighting in the chapel they also look "off".  The moment of truth is the conversation/rift gazing outside.

There is also this thread. I believe the real problem is not that you can't do it but the lack of a Black Emporium and/or proper console commands.

Maybe you just have to wait and hope that they patch the cc some time. I know your struggle but for me it's the female characters that are difficult to make to look good in this game. If you're like me you won't be happy with any character anyways , as the cc is as it is atm. So I only can say what I did , as said , check out the cc slider thread maybe there is something that you like a little bit and tweak it.
Anyways, there has to be a patch or a mod. It's a bummer because the game is great. Only design wise(character and armor design, npc are fine) it's not my style (maybe I've played too much Korean mmo) , it lacks the feeling of "woah my character looks badass ". So try it out and look at the first dialogue scenes in the prologue closely to discover the things you don't like. And hope for a patch:D

12 re-rolls of my qunari for me. At some point you just have to give in and say "Ican't do any better than this". But good luck!

This is definitely the truth.

Thank you for all your answers :) I looked into these threads you guys mentioned and gave it once again a few tries. Here and there I "stole" some ideas for the positioning of my characters eyes and such things. I think now I am almost happy with the way my characters look. You helped me a lot.

I figured out that my biggest mistake was it to change my characters face shap. Every time I used head one and it's first facial shape. Why? Because I thought my guys default head looks to small if I stick with his default facial shape.

Now I know for sure that's what made me feel like playing a bubblehead all the time. If you play as a rogue or mage you will get a new armor as soon as you get to Haven. Especially a rogues armor is pretty slim, slimmer than the armor you start with. As soon as I got this armor my characters head started to look like the head of a giant.

I still have some trouble with his eyes and chin.. but I guess sooner or later I figure it out. Right now I'm just glad I can give him a normal sized head. I never realized that the head shape can make such a big difference. I always thought I'm doing something else wrong in the CC.

Yeah, a patch and something like Dragon Age 2's black emporium would be nice :D I really don't get what Bioware was thinking when they decided to give us all these options but not one good looking preset. The beginning of the game doesn't make it easier to create good looking faces. All those lightning effects in Haven are just terrible.. at least on the Xbox One. All those important NPC's in the game got some nice lightning but the Inquisitor..? You can't even guess how he looks sometimes because of the way how the light hits him.

Something like this games character creator should be a feature.. something you can use if you wish.. but also something you should be able to ignore if you feel you can't work with it (they did the same thing with DA2 and ME!). Working with the character creator is - for me - not a funny extra. For me it's an extremely time consuming and frustrating kind of work. There isn't even a way to save your characters faces when you are done. This means you have to fight with the CC every time you start a new game :(

One of my biggest issues is that I allways want to make everything "perfect" :D Even the smallest things can bother me quiet a bit as soon as I notice them. But you are right, at some point I should just give up. I thought I made a character I could play with, yesterday. After 2 hours I noticed that his eyes are to big and that they should have been a little bit higher. I deleted him.

.. now I try recreate him once again, with smaller and higher eyes. But I guess I really should try to stick with him.. as long as his eyes aren't at the wrong place again.. (because this really looked weird during a few of these recruiting missions) :D
