I think you need to keep track of the number of these responses you give in your signature. Perhaps with a special category dedicated to the total number of o's included.

All classes. Use whatever you enjoy.
Be a team player.
In terms of performance and assuming we eliminate the two hilariously broken kits (Talon mine build and the already mentioned GI), QMI is probably strongest. Cloaked arc grenades trivialize mook spawns and Tacscan+ damage cloak wrecks bosses faster than pretty much anything but GI or Cain mine spam. The latter are much more effective on plat, though.
Drelldept is also within a shout if we assume reapers as the enemy on a favourable grenade map.
As far as subjective "best", anything is viable so anything you like.
The correct single word answer, however, is simply ""quarians".
Actually, I would argue that a well played QMI trumps even a GI on gold, at least against Geth/Cerberus. Not so much against the other two factions.

They all are Gold viable classes. The multiplayer is balanced around gold difficulty.
I thought I read a thread where the devs said they balanced around silver?
Yes.
All of them are viable on gold. It just depends on your skill with them. When first starting gold, you might want to play a character you're familiar with. Just play a bunch of gold matches and you'll get used to it. You won't be kicked out of the lobby in a gold match as soon as in a platinum lobby either. At least, I usually don't mind 1 or 2 newer players in gold matches. When there are 2 players who can hold their own in a gold match, or even 1 very good player, the match will usually go smoothly. Try to do as much damage to the enemy as possible while still staying alive as much as possible.(Though, I suppose that pretty much sums up the entire point of MP)
Also, contribute to the objectives. It's extremely annoying when you've got a hack and one(or even more) of the players is off somewhere on the other side of the map killing enemies. The same goes for escort objectives.
Also, it is usually a bit easier to transition to gold with a power based class.(Adepts for instance) Usually you won't have very strong weapons yet when first going into gold, so if you rely on your powers instead of on your weapons, you'll usually do better. Be careful though, because power based classes usually are more squishy and gold enemies do a lot more damage then silver enemies. Still, like I said earlier, you get used to it.
(Btw, disregard this last bit if the classes you're familiar with are weapon based classes. Just use those if you're most familiar with them)
If you're playing with a group, play whatever class you're the most comfortable with that can match powers with the rest of the group.
Either way I'd say play the class you're the best with... or the one that's the most fun for you!

I could have sworn it was Gold but it's been so long since the topic came up that I could be wrong.I thought I read a thread where the devs said they balanced around silver?
