I didn't realize multiplayer had different combo mechanics.  Please explain them to me.

On this subject, if you consider yourself a master controlling Garrus and Liara, make it an apples to apples comparison and go into Bronze with 2 similar masters and then tell me which is harder.

It is fun to have feel good about yourself memes in this forum, but "bronze is harder than insanity" is just absurd.

You can sort of understand what they're trying to say when they say that (about the fundamental differences between SP and MP), but you're right, "bronze is harder than insanity" is, literally, not only patently false but also just absurd, as you say.

In SP you have:

1, Access to three power sets with independent cooldown.

2, You can instanteniously create any biotic or tech combo without the need to wait for 3-4 secs.

3, You can create (and control!) combos that not available for any MP kits (for example the overlaod-concshot combo whihc was my favourite, as you can finsih off with any shielded opponent with it).

4, You can have biotic and tech combos at the same time (!!!) rendering any enemy defensless.

5, You have two competent allies with full control over them.

6, You can pause.

7, Your barriers regerate.

IMO MP does not offer advantages comparable to this set. You cannot solo a mission purely with missiles, but you can easily do it with biotic and tech combos especially if you have them both on independent cooldown!

I have to admit that I played SP on hard, but I never took a weapon more powerful than the shuriken or later the tempest. It never felt the need to take more powerful weapons as the combos took care of anything. Also, you can finetune your combos to your mission. For exmaple I always took either 2 overload or an overload and a sabotage vs geth. Or biotics with pull and shockwave vs reapers, esp on husk spam maps, etc.

1-5 are possible in MP too, if you have a good team or team that is communicating. As capn said in his post, in SP you control the squadmates which is equivalent to playing with friends/communicating while playing. (You can OL+CS even in MP with a team).

6 is an advantage, sure but we have even more broken geth scanner in MP.

Not sure what you mean by 7, shields/barriers generate even in MP.

As for the SP v MP discussion,

MP is generally more difficult primarily because of the number of active enemies. I wouldn't say bronze or silver is harder than insanity, definitely not based on game mechanics.

tl;dr I agree with capn's post where he details about the similarities and differences between SP and MP.

It is a big if ...  If you have a real good team you can just sit back and enjoy the show. Does it mean that MP is easier than SP? Of course, if you have a good team than it is; but I though we are comparing individual efforts.

True. But in SP, you allot powers to your squadmates, you pick weapons for them and you can command them. So to replicate the true pug experience in SP, use auto-level up for squadmates, pick crappy weapons. That's a better way to compare SP and MP then.

Then bronze won't be 'harder' than insanity.

As said I used crappy weapons all the time in SP :) also my squad mates used them too. The best weapon Garrus had was the Incisor (considered garbage in MP) and he was using it like a machine gun ...

Anyhow I cannot really tell whether bronze is harder than insanity, because I never played insanity. All I am saying that if we take into account what one can directly controll in SP vs MP than you have an easier job in SP.

Of course, it is not a fair comparison because in SP you have a squad of three. But if you take a squad of three in MP it is not a fair comparison either, because then you are comparing the performance of one player to the performance of three. So in either way it is ot a fair comparison. Which makes the claim pretty much meaningless ...

Nobody's going to dispute that not only are SP and MP very different, but in many ways MP is just harder. But the point here is that in some very straightforward ways, (like enemy damage relative to player health/shields, shield gate/recharge, etc. as in the stats capn cited) Insanity is much harder than Bronze; enemies on Bronze have a hard time killing you, even if you put your controller down and leave the room, whereas enemies on Insanity can and will drop you in a heartbeat. Of  course, there's only 6 total enemies per mission, and less total sync-kill bosses in an entire SP playthrough than there is on a single Gold wave. The bottom line is that they're just too different for an easy comparison- and while MP is definitely harder on average, and there is NO SP equivalent of the difficulty you get on Platinum or even Gold, saying that Insanity is easier than Bronze is a gross exaggeration/simplification, and is not even true so far as it goes.

I don't get this hipster "Bronze is harder than Insanity" idea. In Bronze you can take a lot of fire before you die, in Insanity you can't. In SP enemies also keep respawning in inconvenient places, much more so than in MP (in my opinion).

Then again, I don't like to abuse pause in SP, so maybe it's just that...

In SP, Shepard has 5 powers + a bonus power. She also has 3 companions with 4 powers each. Then then you have pause. Too few bosses, too many mooks. For me that made SP-insanity easier than bronze. Could be because ME multilayer is first ever time i tried my hand in online co-op gaming.

Edit: Mixed it up with dragon age. DA has 3 companions. my bad.

How is Shepard ridiculous?  He is inferior to most DLC characters.

Gonna have to disagree there...

For shields, you can get 50% from your armor and you can get max fitness without sacrificing powers. Are you bringing your high level cyclonics to silver/bronze?  Don't forget you have a higher carry capacity in SP, so you can bring bigger weapons along, and I wholeheartedly disagree on ammo powers being weaker.  They (or at least Liara's Squad Warp Ammo) feel stronger to me in SP.  They generally fall somewhere between lvl 2 and 3 ammo overall, but the rank 4-6 bonuses can be pretty ridiculous.

My SP Sentinel takes 10% damage while in cover spamming Reave+Throw.  I ignore grenades half the time with that build.  You mentioned stacking DR, but did not give it enough credit.  This is god mode.

Vanguard with half blast + barrier also has crazy survivability (especially with that whole 0 lag thing).

Infiltrator using Cloak + Flare? I imagine this wins the game too, but I don't have the DLC for it, so I can't try it.

I am sure there are countless, silly OP SP builds, but I still agree that Silver and Insanity are reasonably close together. However, there are parts substantially harder than Silver (3 Geth Primes, the ending, etc.).  I never use the pause for anything but buffs though, so that may skew my judgement.

One, I've been around longer than this account's start date. Two, whatever gender someone identifies as, you start joking about it and that kind of thing drives people away from the forums. A lot of people like the me3mp community because it's less hostile than a lot of other mp communities.

I don't have an issue what someone identifies as. This however isn't real.
