Also, in this forum in general it looks like a lot of people has idealized DA:O. It looks like no one remember its flaws (over-powered mages, ridiculous amount of time required to manage the inventory, very basic loyalty system based on stupid gifts almost exclusively, almost no auto-saves even though any random encounter can kill you...). I don't know if it's just nostalgia, resistance to change, or a combination of both, but it looks like a surprisingly big amount of players just wanted DA:O with a new story, like Awakening, over and over again. Well... I wouldn't have bought another Awakening. I'm glad DA:I offers new things.
To be fair, I loved DA:O much more than DA 2 as well, and I find it's the case with most franchises, the first one is often very good, the second often less good, and they often make it up a bit in the 3rd (like Far Cry, Witcher, Assassin's Creed, Fallout)
The other thing is, I've noticed that I also sometimes prefer older games simply because I was younger at the time.
Anyway, games have been getting increasingly expensive, 70 Euros (for standard edition) is a lot to cough up but I have to admit that in games like this one, it's well worth it, I can't begin to imagine the amount of work that must have gone into it. Just read the credits for a bit to see how many people worked on the project, I'm betting DA:I's one might take a while.
I didn't go into details as to why I was so impressed but it's mainly because there's so many reasons.
If I had to pick one, it's the arrival at the keep, the base of operations, it really made the game seem epic to me.
Just thought of another critic, after playing some more, it does seem that some of the aspects are a bit shallow, for example the requisition quests which give you 1 power if you provide specified ingredients, after completing a few I realised they were just random repeatable quests that probably didn't give you anything except for +1 power.
Or some of the war missions, not sure they have any influence at all except for providing you with an item or a small reward.
It would have been nice to dig a bit deeper into things like this.
