Just going by what the trainers say:
Champion: You're the champion! Women love you!
Reaver: You drink the blood of a dragon and THERE'S NO DRAWBACKS!
Templar: Well you can suppress magic but you'll be enduring lyrium addiction for the rest of your life and you'll be in constant pain and you'll go mad if you stop taking it Oh, and do go talk to Cullen to see how that works out.
You'd have to be a masochist to choose the last.

I actually chose Templar because it sounded the more interesting of the three. Also Reaver feels sort of blood magicky, and that would be out of character for the Inquisitor I was playing. The game doesn't explore lyrium addiction once you got the spec though.
I like how there's only 3 because more than 3 would be too hard.
Actually Cassandra tells you (after the fact, mind you...ain't that a kick in the head...) that a lot of Nevarrans became Reavers, and not only went insane but started growing scales, almost resembling dragons, etc, before death.
Yeah. Reaver ain't all sunshine and rainbows either, apparently.
