@Penguin

Wanted to say thanks for all the work you've done, while I haven't followed all your guides to the letter they've definitely helped me think more on how to build and watching you play has helped me get better. If I may though, could you start giving a recommendation on what level a character with an "average weapon"(whatever the hell that means) should be ready to move to threatening? I find myself wondering sometimes if I can cut it there without a certain active or passive that I don't get for a few levels and getting past 9 or 10 or so on routine can be a bit tedious.

Id probably recommend a Keeper or an Elementalist. Both their abilities have really good crowd control with benefits your team a lot even if you aren't killing everything. Alternatively you could go Legionnaire and be a tank. Legionnaires don't kill a whole lot anyway, they are mostly there to soak up damage and get aggro.

Reggie is the best keeper I've played with. Like, its not even close. Also, even with Charging Bull, you're not faster than ranged attacks, or Reggie's aggressive Fade Steps.

The katari has a charged bull, which makes him faster moving than the whole group and if you have a much better weapon than the rest of the group it is very well possible to outscore other classes. And I personally prefer to have a good support keeper or something similar who constantly casts barrier and disruption field/static cage where needed, than a high dpsing one. The first one ensures you can make it to the end, the second one makes it a lot less likely.

First off, I specifically mentioned similar ilvl weapons.  If the katari can rush ahead so can the mage.  Fadestep + ranged > melee + charging bull in simple terms.  You act like the rest of the group are afk in the back while the katari finishes one set of mobs and then charges to the next.

Katari is actually really good at whoring score because he can hit an entire group and gain XP from all of them as opposed to just 1 target. I dont think the rest of the team is slacking just because they dont score higher. Score is pretty irrelevant anyway in this game. A good tank will always score below an Arcane Warrior for example, even if the tank is my girlfriend (probably the best tank ive played with) and the Arcane Warrior is playing with his knees.

I would like to request a video on how you target mobs like you do with PC controls

Scores are quite irrelevant when used as the sole means of measuring contribution+skill but like I've mentioned before that it can still give you a lot of information on a player.  Information on either their weapon, playstyle, and maybe even their spec depending on class. For example in xxRoll's screenies, you can see a L20 assassin and L19 keeper at the bottom.  You'll notice no killing blows from both players.  This means they both have awful weapons or they were afk a lot and got carried through the run.  The keeper's score is awfully low, why?  Probably a horrible spec like having dispel and mindblast on his bar while always sitting in the back.  His main source of scoring probably came from just barriering the necro and katari as the two charged into every pull and doing all the work.

And no matter how good katari's cleavage is, mages aoe+barrierwhoring will always be better at score whoring.  I've grouped with a katari pulling off a gold 40 (yes 40) team combos and getting gold on kills.  Yet the mage with barrier still came ahead in scoring because of support scoring being super inflated.

I use standard PC controls except I have WASD instead of WQES for movement. I just use the mouse to aim

Of course not.

The truth is that I'm definitely the best tank he has ever played with  :D

If you need a fat f**ck to be gangbanged by the whole enemy faction while you chill and show off your fancy moves, I'm your dwarf  B)

For threatening and below, Katari is my favorite class and tends to steamroll through everything.

Best unlisted skill for Katari:

Situational & Spatial awareness. Positioning for max charge knockdown effect and damage evasion. Also the strafe left and strafe right keys and camera, to curve the charge as necessary. Knowing when to and when not to engage a mob, going through unaware shielded guardians or behind them to avoid blocks. Charging through and knowing whether to follow up with a mighty blow with the camera turned, or an earthsharking / whirlwind -- or even open with an Earthshaking strike toward the enemy, then charging through them. Charging THROUGH and past the Red templar commander (or brutes) in between his whirl winds.. charging as the demon commander signals his green smoke before his pop up. Awareness is the best skill ever!

War horn is fun! But not absolutely necessary either, even on perilous. As with all DPS kits (everything except keeper really), it is highly weapon & gear dependent for higher difficulties, but the low cooldown charge and consistent knockdown means blowing through an enemy crowd, doing damage, and getting away scott free to and from the mob.

Have even more fun watching two katari charge from opposing directions in a pincher manuever, watching mobs confused which direction to swing at the katari as they're continually knocked down.

I highly recommend 2x katari if you have one already in the group. They're vastly more effective. Also with the obvious AoE CC's... Static Cage, disruption field, Abyss, Firestorm, etc.

My Preferred equipment:

Max weapon damage 2H. This is not the same as dps, because abilties like charge & mighty blow are based off weapon damage not weapon dps -- which usually means mauls like Sundering unless you have the Sulevin unique greatsword.

Heavy Armor Upgrades:+Constitution / Ranged Defense

Belt: Ranged Defense

Rings

+Charging Bull

+Heal on Kill

I've just started playing melee characters.

I use a great sword (AOE) and animation cancelling really does a lot to the speed.

But since the swing is only "half" then - am I still doing AOE damage? I did not notice this yet.

I have a higher level maul that does more damage (normal dps) but the mace doesn't seem to benefit so much

from the animation cancelling as the great sword does.

What would you prefer? Thanks!
