I ditched rogues for dragons.
Two mages, two sword and shield warriors.
That doesn't mean instant success, but it made it a lot easier. Al least for me.

I ran into my first dragon (lvl 12) when I was lvl 4 trying to take the back path to Redcliffe.
That was fun lol! ![]()
No real help to you of course but thought I'd share. ![]()

If you think that pull attack is bad, try fighting a lightning dragon heh - they cast some spell that makes your party members zap each other if they are too close to each other - forcing you to space out your characters which can be frustrating when it moves around so much. Anyway, for party setup, don't bring Cole unless he's either respeced as an archer or if he has daggers with fade-touched obsidian or if you intend to micromanage him. He won't last seconds against a dragon if you leave it to the AI. Sera's a good dragon killer however so keep her.
Anyways, for dragon fights I normally set potion reserves to ALL so party AI won't use potions unless I tell them to - in that sense I save up the potions for later (saves me alot of frustration getting a dragon to near death only to be defeated right at the end), and no matter how much the dragon flaps around I keep all ranged characters within medium range so when the dragon uses the pull attack - I can easily get them to close in to prevent them from dying.

I roll with a 2handed warrior inquisitor. My main dragon hunting group is with cassandra, blackwall, and vivienne. Definitely don't bring a rogue. Make sure Vivienne is specced to keep barrier on you all the time, and the two tanks to make the most of use of their guard as possible. Make sure you have the heal over time potions equipped on everyone. I set all my potion use to leaving 8 in reserve. When I see someones health getting low I manually switch to them and use a minor heal over time potion. Between guard and barrier keeping people alive a long with clever use of potions, it's just a matter of DPSing it down.

Errr, I wouldn't recommend anymore than 2 melees if fighting a lightning dragon however. In fact I wouldn't recommend more than 1 if your PC is ranged.

It's not a problem as long as you don't have them set to follow the PC. I destroyed all the dragons with 3 melee and minimal use of tactical cam.

2 mages and 2 melee. Viv and Solas are good. Unless you, yourself are a mage. And if you are get Barrier. Solas and Viv (though Viv is better IMHO) both use Barrier well.
What I find funny, is the dragons are harder to kill then Cory. And he's suppose to be a god.

some tips, but you need to work out the fight I cant believe you have trouble to kill a dragon in normal when you are 4 levels above.
1) have all party members bring the resistance potion according to the dragon
2) do the same with regen potions
3) bring ranged dps is possible if they will be ai controlled (i.e. sera as archer because she likes dragons)
4) use fade rift mage abilities to keep weakening the dragon
5) keep tank facing the dragon and all others stay near the dragon on the side (this way his wings flapping move won't damage you)
6) use tac cam to move the ai char all the time to be in the better spot all the time
7) sometime the environment can provide cover for certain phases
7a) learn the phases as well""
8) micromanage all the healing, resistance pots
9) use dispell for when is needed (i.e you party members are burning)
10) there is a way to stagger the dragon on his legs but I haven't still figured out how to although it happened a couple of times to me. he just fell and you can beat the pulp out of him. I suspect there must be a way to interrupting him doing the screaming and calling the dragonlings.
11) go drink with iron bull after the kill

I did it about a week ago, couldn't really tell you since I didn't find it that difficult. It just died like everything else died with that group set up.

For me the lightning dragons force me to take a ranged party into the fight due to that "lightning ring of death" attack that it uses. And if I bring 3 melees, it will just force me to engage the dragon with only 1 melee at a time unless I want the other 2 to zap the whole party to death.
Other dragons though are pretty straight forward for me.

I did not try when I fought it myself but maybe you can dispel the lighting buff just as you can with the burning dots the Frostback fire dragon does to you.

I've killed all the dragons at this point, on normal.
One time I brought two melee to the fight, and wiped hard. Never did that again. I usually bring a warrior, and either 2 mages and an archer, or 3 mages.
If you're a mage, Fade Step is the greatest thing. Will get you out of the way for all the breath attacks, and for the cyclone things they do that pulls you in, it can get you to the opposite side of there they're pulling (the pull only works from one direction)
Also, make sure you don't have any mages using the same time of staves that the dragon is resilient to. I made the mistake of doing that once and did hardly any damage to it. And set their tactics to use abilities that they dragon is weak to.
Some of the dragons have attacks (usually lightning or fire) where a circle will appear around everyone in your party. If the circle is the kind that doesn't follow you - get everyone out of the circles as fast as possible. If it's the kind that does follow you, make sure your party members are spaced far enough apart that they aren't overlapping circles.
When dragonlings show up, get on them instantly and kill them as fast as possible. make sure you're full up on health potions, and bring regen potions for everyone as well.
The only micro managing I did was moving my ranged fighters around, to make sure they were never clumped up.
That's basically been my tactics, gotten me through all the fights without micromanaging my party at all.

Sera and Cole work best if you aren't a Rogue yourself since it gives you access to the Mark of Death + Flask of Fire + Thousand Cuts combo.
And if that doesn't kill it, Flask of Lightning followed by a volley of arrows will.

I suggest you take the KE spec for your Mage and bring Viv with her KE speced out. Then bring Sera with the Artifice and Archery skill trees all done, and finally Cassandra. I have never died using that group and I am/was on Nightmare. Although I have nearly lost the match...so it is still difficult.
