Knight Enchanters might as well change the name of their specialization to "Dragonslayer". Seriously, specced right I solo'd a level 23 dragon when I was level 18.

Granted it took me what felt like half an hour, but it was an incredibly epic half hour. Fade Step, Fade Cloak, Barrier with buffs, Energy Blade, can't lose so long as you're careful and watch your barrier and cooldowns at all times.

Can't comment on Champion warriors, as I haven't played one yet, but KEs were put on Thedas to decimate dragonkind.

What I find funny, is the dragons are harder to kill then Cory. And he's suppose to be a god.

What part of NON SPOILER forum do you not understand?

Use Vivienne or a mage Inquisitor as a Knight Enchanter.  Spec it appropriately with the Spirit and Frost trees...and if you can play it even semi decently, it's pretty much a "YOU WIN!" button against anything in the game, including dragons.

Remember, good Barrier management is absolutely essential, especially on the harder difficulties.

On Nightmare, I'm finding that Knight Enchanter (Vivienne or mage Inquisitor) / Champion (Blackwall or warrior Inquisitor) / Templar (Cassandra or warrior Inquisitor) / support mage (I used Dorian specced deep in the Spirit tree) is a can't-lose setup for dragon fights.  (I do feel really bad about leaving Iron Bull out of dragon fights, though.)

Honestly, I could probably solo dragons on Nightmare with my Knight Enchanter if I'm patient and careful.  The class is that broken good.

Knight-enchanter spec is really easy for dragon hunting. Just keeping using the spirit blade and you will gain tons of shield, Who you bring does really matter...

My method for killing a Dragon:

Take 3 mages (my inquisitor is a mage on nightmare)
Tell them they cannot drink any health potions (didn't bother with regen or resistance potions)

Play the fight against the Dragon as Blackwall with a full Champion Tree and fire resist armor (didn't feel like crafting new armor for crestwood)
Laugh as my party dies within the first couple minutes.
Finish killing the dragon solo as Blackwall in about 10ish minutes. :D
So far I've killed Hinterlands and Crestwood dragons with this method at level 12/13 respectively.

Also, when fighting a Dragon with 2 Melee's, try assigning them to Right front leg/Left back leg, or vice versa to maximize the 'leg-stun' of the Dragon. Having one melee'er attack one leg, while the other attacks the opposite leg really helps in bringing the Dragon down to its knees for some free hits. I managed to bleed and stun the Abyssal High Dragon several times with that strategy.

Also, micromanagement is the key to winning a Dragon fight. Don't get greedy or confident, because the A.I. is pretty stupid and never listen to your commands.

Some great advice here.

Some things I would add.

From the Tactics window..

Set key abilities like Dispel or abilities that the Dragon may be resistant too to DISABLED. The AI will sometimes cast those spells wasting mana. I like important abilities to be available when I need them.

Melee Rogues are ok, but Ranged Rogues..(Varric and Sera) are not as effective, in my opinion. Unless you micromanage all movement from the Tactical Cam.

I also agree with previously mentioned Micromanaging all potions.

It is good to have your focus abilities READY.

My Inquisitor is a 2H Warrior, and my Dragon Hunting party is Blackwall, Viveinne and Solas.

Anyone who says ditch the Rogues is setting up for a fight a million times longer than it needs to be.

Of all party members, Sera is BY FAR the biggest damage dealer to the point she can make short work of dragons on her own so long as she has a good bow.

My MO usually followed along these lines with an all Rogue party:

1. Have everyone chug a Mighty Offense Tonic.

2. Have everyone bar Sera use Stealth so I could get them into position.
Varric takes high ground or a spot well out of melee range, Cole gets just out of melee range to one side while I move to another side of the dragon.
Sera meanwhile uses Flask of Frost and attacks the dragon to draw it's attention.

2. Once Flask of Frost has worn off, have Cole slap the dragon with Mark of Death, Varric uses Full Draw and my Inquisitor uses Hidden Blades while Sera uses Flask of Lightning to turn herself into a machine gun with auto attacks.

3. Apply my own Mark of Death, explode Cole's mark for big damage, have Varric spam Long Shot and explode my own mark for big damage.
If necessary, have Sera follow up with the Flask of Fire + Thousand Cuts combo.

Done right, any dragon will die in about a minute.
Any f*** ups, full party wipe. There is no middle ground.

My Mage Playthough: Me as a Knight Enchanter, Cassandra, Solas as Ice/Barrier, and Cole. Often kill a dragon with minimal casualties in about 2-3 minutes.

Warrior Playthrough: Me as a 2-handed Reaver, Iron Bull switched to a SW&SH Reaver, Dorian as Barrier/Fire/Electrical. Cole. Kill a dragon in about 1-2 minutes. Usually losing Cole and Dorian to the "I can do dis!" AI.

It's 1/3 Trial and Error, 1/3 Practice, 2/3 Party comp. Shhh, I know math!
