Hrm. I've wiped a bit, but it's mostly my own carelessness and not quite used to the combat system yet. I have been aching to switch to Hard since I now find myself nearly drowning in potions. The challenge is present, but it's not quite a "Challenge" challenge.

I'm loving the Mage, though. Sleep. Grease. Fireball. Point. Laugh.

2 to a pack of deepstalkers in the dwarf noble origin, 0 past that. Normal mode, PC version, just reached the tower.

I'm playing on normal, and feel like I'm playing Resident Evil: I have no ammo, no health, no herbs, and the next time i walk around a corner, I'm probably going to die.

I have died a few times, but that is most likely a result of not having any healers in my party.

Playing on normal (Sadly.) I have died a few times, probably around 5. Come close a few more times.

SPOILER

Almost died in the Tower of Ishal in one of the rooms on the Third level, but I was able to run back to the dogs I released and use them to finish the fight. =D Made me very proud of myself.

I had several full wipes on Hard when fighting the Ogre in the tower :P Other wipes at other times... I think rogues are quite difficult on Hard. I kept playing on Hard, but stopped for the first undead battle in Redcliffe. I am liking Normal, it is still challenging with near total wipes, but it lets me experiment and learn the system more.

I want to bump it up to hard on my next play through, but I think I'll finish it off on Normal for now.

Don't be sad about playing on Normal :) - this game takes getting used to. Of course I am the type to play on Normal for just about any game - I like having fun, not getting overly frustrated (which tends to happen in alot of games when the difficulty level gets put up even one notch :/)

Through my origin I didn't die once, even got an Achievement for it! However, out in the real world, I've died tons of times now. heh

^ This.

My origin went fine and dandy, with no deaths (knockouts, whatever), but I've been getting my rear kicked since the Tower. Don't even get me started on Redcliffe.

Playing on normal, I've only had one party member die(Soldier while in the tower fighting the troll). No full wipes. Mage using life leech and mana leech doesn't lose health to fast.

Ouch ouch ouch!

Just had a random encounter on the road that was 3 yellows (the specter looking things), and one dark orange one... hard difficulty... crazy thing to just run upon

After about 15 wipes, and 2 close calls, downed it... took me a good 45 minutes though

I've had one full wipe. First enemy mage I encountered. Single fireball. It was over. I lost a lot of characters who ran into areas where the earthquake spell had been cast. It can be difficult at times to reign melee characters in when it is tactically sound to stay back. But I haven't had too many problems on normal.

Playing on hard and have a few wipes, mostly due to carelessness during fights when my Mage decides he wants to own it up with friendly fire and I'm not paying too close attention. Only time I had to revert to normal was when defending Redcliffe, and even then I had to resort to kiting to kill the last half dozen mobs (I probably could have implemented this strat on hard, I just didn't think of it until after I had made the difficulty switch).

Wiped once at the bear trap bridge before I knew about the bear traps and once in Lothering approaching the final bandit camp across open ground. Also wiped at Redcliffe 6 times, so I loaded an earlier save and am going to the other places first to level up because level 6 on hard is clearly low for that area. Playing on hard, with Sten/Morrigan/Alistair.

I've learned quite quickly that in this game, don't disturb wards on grave stones. Typically if I wipe on an encounter, I just smoke it after the reload. Not those pesky grave stones. I'm sure the Dalish Elves were getting a good laugh watching me keep going back for more grave stone fun. 4 wipes before giving up on them to return later.

Oh. After all this reading I am afraid, that after 16 hours I'll change my name to Holy Mortar The Wiped. Never played much party based tactics - I guess it will be much more than 80 hours of gameplay for me in the first playthrough :D

I'm at level 8, on Hard, and actually I've never lost more than 1 party member at a time and my main is still at 0 deaths. I have to wonder what y'all are doing moving along so fast or if I just took a completely different path to be where I am now, but I've got... eh... 20ish hours of play in the last two days and I'm just now getting around to going on the main plot.

Try to do a quest and die.

Try and do the main quest and die.

Try to do anything and die.

This is on normal, btw. The game is stingy on healing items, and just loves to throw hordes of enemies that instantly throw my characters to 25% health or less. No healing items, no healing magic. How does the game expect me to survive when I can't even fight one enemy without almost dieing?

Criminy, what is ya'lls secret? I've played every Bioware game since BG1 and I've lost track of the total party wipes Ive had less than 10 hours in on normal. Im completely stuck at the Dragon in the werewolf dungeon at the moment, I can't touch that thing even on easy. Oh, and I pause every 2 seconds to readjust and re-evaluate my strategy, so im definitely not trying to play it real time.

Your playing on PC, the OP (And presumably most people in this thread) are playing on XBox, which is (acording to reviewers, not to mention pretty much everyone who has played both) much easier.
I'm playing on hard on PC and it is pretty unforgiving. Alistar with sword/shield and T6 armor goes down in about
4 seconds if I slip up. I've wiped... alot, but I've yet to get stuck.

Crafting healing items takes the pressure off a bunch, so does using every stun you have as often as possible. Put Wynne in your party if you have her, don't use more than one rogue.

Actually, I've found that the game seems to be giving me more healing items than I need. I guess it's because I don't use them after fights because health regens over time- pretty quickly I might add.

I'm only starting to get to the good parts, though. Just hitting level nine for my main character. I'm on the PC btw.
