Playing on Nightmare, took about 2 and a half hours of playing before deciding on what sort of combat system I wanted to run with. Started again and now getting the hang of ambushes and dragging enemies into traps hehe.
Loving it. You really need to maximise different characters strengths and abilities. Love that if you just charge head first into a group you likely get your backside handed to you. Loving the combat system!
Died a few times early on, before investing in herbalism and stocking up on potions.  Set everyones combat tactics to auto heal around 50% or 25% if tougher.  Haven't had anyone knocked out for a little while now, sure that will change though.

I'm playing on hard and have died 15~ times. You would think after 20 odd hours I would learn to pause the battle and plan things out a little bit more. I should note that the only time all of these deaths frustrated me was during a defense of a certain town from a horde of enemies.

I'm playing on normal, just a while ago finished the tower. So far i'm yet to get a full wipe and my main has never died. In the tower, i managed to get to the top without losing a single team-member and using a single health potion. It wasn't too easy, just needs some planning and oversight. On the ogre had to use some potions but some members of the team died anyway.

I died way too often on Normal. I don't get it. My party setup must be wrong or something. It's just.. all my characters are getting hit SO FREAKING HARD and they don't do much damage at all. The game either expects you to spam healing potions or to play in a way I haven't figured out yet. But to my own credit I know I'm an experienced, good player.. so deaths just ****** me off extremely.

I ended up cursing at the game so hard I decided to put it on easy. But, ofcourse, Bioware didn't got the scale right, and now it's WAY too easy.. while Normal is drink-potions-or-die-hard mode.

My rogue is either too fragile, Alistair either sucks at tanking, or it's stupid to bring Dog with you all the time. I just hoped the beast was more usefull, both depth- and combatwise.

Playing on Hard as a warrior (insane just sounds like self-torture for no real reason, maybe some other time). It isn't that bad if I micromanage, especially stuns and health-potion usage. Sometimes I just have a whole group of warriors/melee and I do fine. I am used to pausing allot from BG series and other CRPGs anyway, though I do let the game run continuously due to the nice combat animation.
I also tried out a mage character on Hard and it was actually way easier and I find it allot of fun, probably because I tend to stick to my main character more and thus I make more effective use of their spell combos etc (I tend to let party-member mages just use their tactics and occaisonally give them specific orders, which is probably why I didn't see much good about mages before now).

I've learned to quick save after almost every battle, because around each corner i found myself outgunned and outnumbered and dead again. It's gotten less frequent now that i have a healer class in my party but it sure sucks to be a rogue class when you first start out.

Beat the dwarven arena (all 4 or 5) solo... sword and board for the win!
