I installed DA:I from disc.

I have been experiencing intermittent crashes from the very beginning (white screen, black screen & CTD).

There is no clear "cause", they happen anywhere and anytime during the game.

Cut-scenes, fights, menus, the War Room, conversations, loading screen ... you name it.

I have to kill DA:I via the Task Manager every time.

I have done a clean re-install of DA:I.

A clean re-install of my video drivers.

Re-installed DiirectX 11  and Visual Runtime.

Run CCleaner, several times.

Uninstalled programs and deleted files from my C: drive.

... and let the game patch itself.

The frequency of the crashes has steadily increased as I have played.

At first I could play 2-3 hours, sometimes, between crashes.

Now it's 5-10 minutes.

By every account I should be able to play with no problem, even if not @ max video settings:

Windows 7 64-bit
AMD Phenom™ II X4 955 Processor @ 3.2GHz
8 GB RAM
DirectX 11
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
NVIDIA 344.75 drivers

Needless to say, I am quite disappointed so far in both the performance of the game and the totally inadequate response of BioWare and EA.

The game (what of it I have managed to play) may not be everything I could have wanted, but does have me wanting to play Dragon Age again.

I am glad to know that there are some who are playing with no apparent problems, I just wish I were one of them.

Come on BioWare (and EA), you can do better ...

When I started modding Skyrim a few years ago, it was suggested to create a folder on the C: drive and name it games. Apparently, windows UAC doesn't like it when files are being manipulated and it gets cranky sometimes causing games to not work properly.  So for example if I installed skyrim to the default steam directory it would look like this: C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim. Now it looks this:C;\games\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim. With origin I made an EA folder on my C: drive and it looks like this: C\EA\Dragon Age Inquisition. Origin does it differently than steam in that it installs your games along side it rather than inside of it like steam does. So inside my EA folder I have Origin, Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition. The way it was explained was that windows user account control (UAC) is really protective of the program files(x86) folder . I'm not saying that that will fix anyone's problems but since I've done it this way I've had very few problems running games right out of the box with the exception of the odd hiccup here and there.

I haven't had any major issues before or after the patch and hot fix. My system specs are:

Core i5 2500K CPU @ 3.3GHz
8 GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7970 (Omega driver and AMD Gaming Evolved installed)
Win 7/64

I have a mixture of High and Ultra Settings with MSAA turned off.
Some minor stuttering was fixed after installing the Omega driver.

I hope Bioware can sort all of this out soon.

I5 750 Quad-core 2.67 Ghz

12 Gb Ram

Nvidia GTX 760/3Mb using 344.75 driver

Win7/64-bit

Using Ultra preset (except for post-processing settings turned down to medium, higher settings was causing the graphic drivers to fail).

No stability or performance issues since the patch and hotfix other than the one mentioned.

I disliked the gameplay style Bioware implemented in Dragon Age 2, but I can honestly say I miss it now, after playing 30 minutes of Inquisition.

I understand the need to make the game adjusted for playing with a gamepad, but this is really clunky. Not to mention the tactical view which is completely useless when compared to Origins.

I hope it will be fixed soon, because I'm terrible at using a gamepad, so I'll have to manage somehow with mouse and keyboard.

Also, the game looks truly great, but I get occasional stuttering during cinematics and very rarely during gameplay. My PC is well above the recommended requirements and I'm using the latest AMD Omega driver, so it's unlikely that is the problem.

I liked the game so far, but some patch which should address the mouse+keyboard issues would be more than welcome.

So i'd just like to say the ability to walk instead of run should not be a game breaker lol. I just finished playthrough 2 and have never felt the need to toggle to walk lol. If the feature was there, sure I might use it. But it should in no way decide if I should purchase a game lol

Also has there been any word as to when Xbox One will receive it's first update? Please no xbox or console hate. I also own the game for ps4 and pc lol.

hello,
I have not read all the posts in this thread, because I'm Italian and I do not understand much English (google translated).
following the proposal # NikOtinO7 I checked the processes of windows and I found in the Rundll32.exe process that blocked the PC. I killed him and now I have no more 'no freezes.
# NikOtinO7 thanks !!

ps: advice then everybody to kill all unnecessary processes and non-essential when playing ... so 'to clean % CPU

If it can help:

Windows 8.1

I7 3.8 or something

Nvidia Geforce 770 TI

8 GB RAM

SSD 250mb on which DAI is installed.

1 old monitor so not too much strain on GFX i would guess.

Origin overlay off, offline mode when I remember to do it. Sometimes Outcome. Doesn't change anything as far as I can tell.

Everything ultra.

100 hours 1 CTD when origin was online.

Game looks good. Pre-patch I had to window the s... of every Wartable moments because everything became "unclickable". Such behavior messes with sound a lot (banter and music stopping). Patch fixed this.

Music and banter bugs are still there though.

This is so wierd couse I had almost thesame comp setup as yours (..except I had an radeon 7xxx graphic card) and I had crashes/stuttering too. But since I upgraded to an intel i5 processor and R9 920 Graphic card I now have no crashes whatsoever and no stuttering ..hmm..=S

My game ran fine until yesterday. I started getting some direct X errors and CTD/blakck screens. It seems to happen at random times. Needless to say, my drivers are up to date and the game ran perfectly fine until yesterday, which is odd. I installed both patches and the hotfix when they became available and it has only been giving me problems 3 or 4 days after the update.

It crashed for the first time when I started a new game.

Hi guys, first post here.

Lilianna in the torture chamber (and outside it as well) looks old, REALLY old. I assume it had something to do with patch two and the problem with how scar faced turn into ones with wrinkles. However, I personally run the game on ultra and tried the method of adding the command line to the target of Inquisition. Didn't help at all. Or is this suppose to happen? Since it's been a year and Lilianna suddenly grew old. =o=

Sorry I didn't take a screenshot during the cutscenes, I was too busy being terrified.

It's a plot , not some graphic problem .

If you mean this certain quest (I don't want to spoil around to much) in a castle, then this is as intended, they have to look old there.

I read about clean install of graphics drivers and tools to remove old drivers. It seems that every install and uninstall can leave something behind that troubles other tasks. But I think this problem is not alone graphics drivers. Every application you installed can interfere in some way. Be it mouse driver, usb driver, rss feeds, email stuff, weather apps and what not. I know guys, when they start up their PC, it loads lots and lots of "tools". The taskbar is cluttered with icons. I use Windows 7, drivers for the motherboard, driver for sound card and graphics card (Nvidia GTX770). Thats it, I even have no mouse driver installed. The many tools one can have on their PC makes it difficult to find the exact reason for problems like CTD or stuttering.

My system specs are as follows (out of DXDIAG):

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1
Motherboard Gigabyte X58A-UD7
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 960  @ 3.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.2GHz
12 GB RAM
DirectX 11
GeForce GTX 770

I play DA:I on high settings, just turned off this MSAA and lowered Tesselation. To have a better frame rate even in crowded scenes I reduced the resolution in the settings menu from 100% to 90%. This smooths down the sharpness a bit, but I find this more pleasant. 100% can look oversharpend, at least to my eyes. I had no big issues so far (before and after patch 2) and I am 100+ hours in the game. But no playthrough though :) I am a player who often change his mind and tries out another character.

So this added command line parameter, is it supposed to put scars back in the game? Because if it is I'm doing it wrong which, mind you, is not at all inconceivable.

I realize I could, and probably should, sift through the 146 pages here to find an answer to my question but I'm too busy agonizing over whether my next character should be another dalish or a human. Decisions, decisions...

You shouldn't need anymore the command line since the hotfix is out.

Another thing people can try, although I'm not going to show you how because it involves registry editing and I'm not going to be responsible if it doesn't work out, is unparking your cpu cores. I'm using Windows 7 pro and unparked my cores two years ago and have had no problems with my computer. So if that's something people want to try as well they can google it. There's alot of tutorials on how to do it. Hope that helps anyone.

Is the patch auto-updated? I remember having an option to download it, midway I cancelled after reading the comments on the forum about it messing lots of things up. But now I don't see an option to download it anywhere so I'm half-suspecting it downloaded anyway later?

And where can I see which version of DAI I have? The game isn't very clear on that, can't find it on my origin account either.
