I have been wondering the same thing I'm getting really restless for the patch I just don't get how 360 got it first I'm thinking Microsoft is holding it at the certification process for what ever reason

I was able to get the game running again using the "Repair Game" function in the Origins panel and things worked fine; however, on trying to launch today I'm getting the same locked up black screen/"program has stopped running" error. Trying repair again.

When I started modding Skyrim a few years ago, it was suggested to create a folder on the C: drive and name it games. Apparently, windows UAC doesn't like it when files are being manipulated and it gets cranky sometimes causing games to not work properly.  So for example if I installed skyrim to the default steam directory it would look like this: C:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim. Now it looks this:C;\games\steam\steamapps\common\skyrim. With origin I made an EA folder on my C: drive and it looks like this: C\EA\Dragon Age Inquisition. Origin does it differently than steam in that it installs your games along side it rather than inside of it like steam does. So inside my EA folder I have Origin, Dragon Age Origins, Dragon Age 2 and Dragon Age Inquisition. The way it was explained was that windows user account control (UAC) is really protective of the program files(x86) folder . I'm not saying that that will fix anyone's problems but since I've done it this way I've had very few problems running games right out of the box with the exception of the odd hiccup here and there.

I totally agree. Installing any client (Origin, Steam, UPlay) and/or games to the C:\Program Files (x86) folder is asking for trouble. It is common now to have multiple drives on a gaming pc with one ssd designated solely to Windows. I don't have the best machine but what works really well for me is:

1) 120 gig Samsung 840 EVO solely for Windows and common programs (web browsers, utilities).

2) 2 TB WD Black solely for Steam games (the bulk of my games of course).

3) And another drive (1 TB Toshiba) solely for non-Steam games (typically Origin, non-Steam UPlay and GoG games).

So my Steam games are in E:\Steam\Steamapps\Common and my non-Steam games are in F:\Non-Steam Games\(non-Steam) UPlay,Origin Games (or GoG games etc.). Of course everyone is set up differently, but it is crucial to keep your game clients and games out of the C:\Program Files (x86) folder whether you have multiple drives or not. I do have all three game clients (Steam, Origin, UPlay) installed on my E:\ drive despite the fact that I have my Origin and (non-Steam) UPlay, and GoG games installed to my F:\non-Steam games folder.  Like Steam, you can set up both UPlay and Origin to install games to whichever drive and folder you wish.

W8.1 x64

I5 3570k OC 4.4

16 gigs DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance (XMP)

Asus 3 gig GTX 780 DircectCU II OC

MSI 1 gig GTX 650 (PhysX card)

120 gig Samsung 840 EVO (Windows and common programs/utilities)

2 TB Western Digital Black 64 MB Cache 7200 rpm (Steam games and all game clients, each client in their own folder)

1 TB Toshiba 64 MB cache 7200 rpm (Non-Steam games (Origin, non-Steam UPlay, GoG) and miscellaneous files)

So whether you have multiple drives or not, do not allow game clients to install into the default C:\Program Files (x86) folder. Put each of them in their own designated and seperate folders on either the C:\ drive (if you only have one drive) or disbursed amongst multiple drives so you don't run the risk of filling any one drive beyond the 10/20% drive space threshhold (will slow hdd's down if they are too full).

(Pardon me, I think I've had entirely too much coffee this morning).

It really is weird how the Xbox One version is singled out, while every other platform got the patch. Especially since the Xbox One is the platform EA seemed to favor with EA access and DLC first.

I feel you, man.. did you try playing in 'windowed fullscreen' mode?

Yes, switched to that after reading about it here.

That helped a lot but ...

Switched to "windowed" mode when the crashes got way too frequent.

That lasted about 1-1/2 hours and I started crashing again, along with a "display driver stopped working" warning I hadn't gotten before.

I'm back in "windowed fullscreen mode" again now and waiting for the process to repeat.

I made a post 2 days ago about how my game is running smoother then it was b/f the patch 2 and hotfix together it is indeed running smooth still but....... I am now getting DirectX crashes about every 30mins ....  :crying: I have tried everything to stop them form happening but nothing is working so i'm guessing I just have to wait for patch 3? The crashes really are not making the game "unplayable" I mean as far as they go the only thing it is really breaking for me is my immersion having to restart the game every 30-45mins I guess i'll just deal with it until you guys fix it which is cool seems there are a lot of other people on here still who are having far worse problems then just crashing, anyways thanks ahead of time Bioware for looking into not just mine but everyones problems hope all goes well in the next patch.

Yes how dare people want their game to work. -_-

That said I only wanted the patch because I have the banter bug. Outside that my game was running fairly smoothly barring the occasional ctd but Origins had those too so I wasn't too fussed. The game's generous with the auto saves anyway.

Also I'm on a i5 2500k and a gtx 970. >_> granted my ram is only 8gb but I'm fairly certain I'm on the recommended side of things.

Just out of curiosity, is there any word yet on when Achievements for Origin and Dragon Age Keep "beta" will actually be enabled- you know, since the game has been released for a while now and all that? Dunno about everyone else but it definitely makes me feel like this was a half-baked release along with the clunky PC control scheme and the lack of strafe keys, as well as other oddities. Would probably go well for "customer service" to actually finalize/release all of the content meant for the game instead of just making everyone wait for it when they've already paid for the game. That said, I don't think original game achievements would be considered "DLC" but please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here.

You act as if he was telling bioware to go kill themselves or something he was just simply stating his problems ... and of course people are going to complain ESPECIALLY when there game was running fine before the 2nd patch came out...They have every right too. Also system requirements have nothing to do with his statement like he said " he was fine before the patch then after the patch he started getting stutters and CDT's " Think before you type something please.

Stop trying to re create Origins ...

The new take is actually pretty fun ..

(on my second play through; super fun)

....

:D

I'm OK with simplification. Not my preference, but fine. I do have a problem with them including tactical combat that doesn't work.

I know some players enjoy running around clicking stuff and don't use tactical combat. Good for you! But the game includes the (hyped) feature and some of us expect it to work.

Huh, my computer is way over reccommended specs, had the Direct X crashes before the patch but after patch a ton of issues, banter broken, questlines, uninteractable objects, more frequent Direct X crashes etc etc so no I dare say I have reason to complain as Ive been spending more time searching these forums and the web for fixes to the game than actually playing the game.

Bioware released a poor rushed port. The game experience itself is amazing, the world, the story and dialogue, but it is all marred and destroyed by lousy technical implementation and ****** poor excuse for support. The EA Answer HQ is a joke, they and the live staff redirected me here for technical support, here I get redirected back to EA Answer HQ which makes me think support is run by headless chickens.

I will wait at least 6-8 months after release before buying another EA/BioWare/Ubisoft game, Ive learned my lesson

Pretty much the same. My rig meets the requirements and I had maybe a random crash but only after a hours of play. After patch 2 I've spent most of my time looking for fixes for insane cpu and fps spikes and dialogue stutters, but it's my CPU usage stays well under 50%. I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for a playable game build or a rollback patch. Origin hasn't been the issue for, it's been the modifications to the patch1 Frostbite build. Today in particular it crashed going in and out of tactical cam... So I am done looking for fixes today..

I personally:

-cleaned Origin cache (didn't really need to)

-ran CCleaner (which is a great app btw)

-clean boot (again no real need)

-increased job threads to 6 max threads (the number increase after patch 2)

-limited pre-rendered gametime frames to 60 (it's pre-rendering a unneeded amount of frames)

-lowered all my settings

And nothing. I have to say what they did it requires more job threads from the cpu. I went up to 5 threads after this patch.

I won't add the hotfix since most of what I have read on the hotfix is negative or made not improved stability. It'd be different had I had the game backup on my laptop (gaming between classes...LOL) Then I could have restored my game back to it's patch 1 build but I didn't think I'd have to with Dragon Age since it has been a decent brand or at least I had a positive experience with DAO/DA2. I agree. I won't be buying another 'Mega' title for this publisher until well after (6-8 months) of launch period.

Feels like BF4 all over again.

Interesting thing, the game uses more CPU power while in the main menu than in the game itself.  Average CPU utilization for me in the Menu was 70-80% while in game it rarely went over 70%.  Means nothing I know, but still, why?

Is it just me or did anyone else lose the combat difficulty option in the Gameplay settings??? It completely disappeared and the first option is now the toggle for friendly fire.

Before the patch, I was able to run the game perfectly fine with most of the settings on ultra and the rest on high. I didn't monitor CPU usage then but both CPU and GPU temperatures never crossed 60C, not even once. After the patch, I noticed some stuttering/lagging issues and an increase in pop up graphics. CPU usage was hovering around 90% but temperature was still under 60C so it was nothing I couldn't live with. I thought it was because I increased the tessellation from high to ultra right after intalling the patch.

And then today, the crashes started. They occurred occasionally, until I was unable to load a save. The game would immediately crash no matter what saves I tried to load, and kick me back to desktop with no error message (so it couldn't have been DirectX). When I tried to lower/fiddle with all the settings, game still crashed.

This is ridiculous and unbelievable. I understand that sometimes when you fix one bug, two more pop up. But a patch that renders its game unplayable? Seriously??? I haven't finished the game yet and I'm getting really worked up...

It's missing from the Main Menu screen but it's still there if you load the game and go into Options->Game Play.

Hi Guys!

I just wanted to share you a possible solution for the stuttering. I just watned to reinstall the game, but before that I defragmented my hard drive and disabled origin helper (every other online option was disabled and I played in offline mode) and I decided I give DA:I one last shoot before the reinstall. In that moment when I started the game I  was surprised in a good way. The stuttering was completely gone and my game runs the same , if not better than before the patch and the hotfix. I don't know exactly why this solved my game's stuttering, but I hope it helps to some of you.

And here is my (64 bit) dxdiag's hastebin link in case, if you or the devs are interested:

http://hastebin.com/obixodezoz.tex

I hope Bioware will fix the stuttering for everyone soon.  16x16_smiley-wink.png

PS: I also updated my directx today (to be exact I installed Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY from steam [what I got with a hungarian gamestar magazin] what installed if I remember correctly Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 and some directx files).

(Sorry for my english, I'm from Hungary.)

Count yourself lucky. The reason is probably due to Microsoft making them hold out given the patch seems to have screwed up a lot of systems, consoles and PC. Can't say I blame them, and at least Xbox one players can continue to multiplayer - I haven't updated because of all the ctd/stuttering reports and I am unable to access online. Even importing DA keep.

I was putting off getting the patch because I thought it would turn my character old and cause more bugs than it fixed but... It's made the game perfect now.

- My Hawke is back to custom and my Inquisitor kept the American voice.
- No micro stutters during combat.
- The mini map search icons make that function so much better.
- BANTER. Like actual banter between companions every 5-10 minutes. I don't know if the patch had anything to do with it but I'm not doing anything other than going to places from the skyhold table rather than using the mini map. I only got skyhold just before the patch so this was my first opportunity to try it. Also 3 of my banters seemed to 'trigger' right after using the rest option at camps. This would also happen pre patch.

The only issue I had was a few red Templars just disappear mid fight after I'd just fought another (or the same group) nearby. It happened near the place where you run around the stone 3 times in the hinterlands.
