I wonder how Mass Effect would have run on a PS2.

We're happy for you if your expectation was so low that this unfinished PC product satisfy you, but some of us were apparently waiting for more

My expectations were low after DA2, yes, but for me, personally, there's no doubt that DA:I deserves the Game of the Year awards it's getting. I play on PC, and the only bugs I've encountered are the shiny hair, and for some reason I'm unable to switch between characters from time to time. Hardly game-breaking bugs.

I tried KB+mouse for about 5 mins, figured out it was crap, and plugged in my Razer gamepad. Been a happy camper ever since. Again, hardly game-breaking. Some games work better with keyboard+mouse, some work better with a gamepad, some with a steering wheel, and some with a joystick. I don't see kb+m as THE defining control config for PC, but I know I might be in the minority here.

Anyway, hope you have a merry X-mas, and hope you'll get your patches soon, so you can enjoy the game the way I (and many others) enjoy it :)

Your game is way more bugged than you realize.

http://forum.bioware...rk-compilation/

Everything here - everything - is system agnostic. It's not random crashes, it's not system-specific issues, graphic card issues, or down to personal preferences: every one of these is a bug, a glitch, and plain something not working in every game. Including yours.

This list alone is appalling, and we're not even getting into the per-customer issues of not being able to get the game to start or get it past a menu.

Yup, YOUR game is bugged, too. Bugged to hell and back.

Yes, there are worse games, but that doesn't stop this game, right now, being more buggy than it should be and Bioware being way quieter than they should be.

I can not see any scars in character creation regardless its intensity option. It might not be the only one having this bug.

Are you on PC?  Have you tried turning the mesh setting in game options up to high?

Has their been any ETA on the next patch? After reading, it doesn't seem like that last patch was very worthy of the name. All people talked about was the problems it caused and very little about what was fixed and improved. Want to buy the game, but I take the internets advice on "research first" and well I've been stuck waiting as the issues haven't been addressed, those mentioned by Devs a day after release about pc controls and issues. I may have a bad memory, but it isn't that bad.

Yeah, sorry about that. I was talking about PC version and yes, mesh quality has to be at least on high as it seems. Thanks for the advice! I thought scars were just glorified textures so i tried setting those to high. Actually i dont want anything on high because i play on a laptop that doesnt even meet the minimum requirements. Despite that, ive never had a single crash after 80 hours of gameplay and it very rarely drops below 30 fps. Acceptable for me and thanks again!

Despite my grief, I'd say go ahead and buy it, and they'll release the patch eventually. It's worth it. If it was a total piece of junk none of us would be screaming our guts out for fixes, yeah? We'd just junk it and never look back. So, I say take the risk and see for yourself.

Wanted to wish everyone happy holidays, and to thank Bioware for all the money I saved NOT buying DAI for friends who actually like PC games.

Tis the season.   See you in 2015 when you guys hopefully get some actual pc programmers in to fix this travesty.

Yup. This patch pretty much ruined the game for me. 2 weeks ago i played 12 hours straight without a single freeze, not even one  and loading times were surprisingly good considering that i don't have a high end pc. Because of study i couldn't play all these days, so today that i finally could,  origin asked me to download and  install this patch and  now i can't even play 1 minute without hard freezes and takes forever to load. Do you guys know any way to downgrade/remove this patch?

Scars depend on your shader quality. With the latest patch, that means you need to set your mesh quality (in the graphics options) to high or ultra if you're playing on PC.

Scars aren't available on the last-gen consoles.

Maybe last-gen doesnt have enough juice for it. Pretty crazy but yeah, scars affect performance a lot because you need high mesh quality to see them at all.

Obviously last-gen "has the juice" for it.  We've had scars in customizable characters for a long time.  However, I think DAI is using a specific bit of code for its scar implementation that just doesn't work on last-gen consoles or when you start disabling effects on PC.

The scars require higher quality shaders, but the last-gen consoles are locked to low quality shaders (from what I understand, the option to choose scars will never even appear).

There should still be scars and such for companions (I believe those are baked into their face textures), but not for the player character or any of the generic face-gen NPCs (if any of those even have scars).

Ah, dismissing a post by saying it's dismissive. Irony defined.

Far from finding it dismissive, I found the post to bring some badly needed perspective to this place. Nobody is denying that a small number of people are having more or less serious issues with this game, but compared to other AAA games, this actually seems like a surprisingly stable release, especially considering this is an "open world" type game.

I mean, compare it to the launch of Sim City, or Diablo III, or Battlefield 4, or Assassin's Creed: Unity.

I know this doesn't help the people who are having issues, and they deserve their game to be patched, but dismissing posters who bring some badly needed perspective in here isn't constuctive.

Ubisoft took direct action and accepted responsibility for their product.  They practically begged their fans for forgiveness as they work on fixing it.

It's more than I feel like we're getting from bioware, especially on the old gen thread.

You can restore your DAI folder to a previous version, to before you applied the patch. Right click the DAI folder under Origin Games and choose previous versions. You may not be able to outright restore, some people have had that option grayed out. If that's the case, simply copy the older version to your desktop and then replace the patch version with that version. You won't be able to go online anymore until you patch again - multiplayer or DA Keep. Also, if you upgraded to patch 2 and then saved, your saves will not work.

Out of curiosity what graphics card/driver do you have btw? A friend of mine updated to patch 2 with a GTX 460 using 344.75 drivers. He was experiencing constant stuttering and very frequent freezes. I told him to downgrade to 344.65 and he hasn't had a single issue since. It may be that the drivers are causing issues in Patch 2, and not necessarily the game itself. If you're using an nvidia card and 344.75, try downgrading to 344.65 before you resort to restoring your installation folder to a previous version. It may very well fix your problems.

It's sadly quite common that the latest drivers don't work so great with the older cards

Really?

I happened to be in the Chamtry, standing two feet in front of the war room door and the Resource Monitor shows me a 40-45% cpu usage. The scene is rendered 'cause it's only the bloody door in front of me. The scene is me and the door.

You are saying that re-rendering the rendered scene is good code? You are saying that rendering a static scene (ie: door and the Inquisitor's back) is good code that takes up to 45% CPU from my 6 cores? If you believe that I have a bridge in Alaska to sell to you.

BTW, I've programmed in assembler for mainframe comps as a "toddler". I just may know a thing or two.... not much.. but a thing or two.

It shouldn't be surprising that the game's still rendering while paused.  If the game stopped rendering, you would need to reload the whole area upon unpausing.  Whether or not it is taking up too much CPU for just rendering a door is a bit of a separate question, but rendering while paused is to be expected.

What planet are you on? 8 usable abilities out of 30+? Can't swap weapons in combat? Sure he has some pretty colors, what does he do when he gets his first specialization? These are not bugs as such, but stupid console port items. So much has been made of graphic issues but the real issue is the atrocious design and implementation. No mouse button binding, crippled tactics, the list goes on. For a PC release I would only give DA:I a score of 3/10 for completeness. Whoever gave the ok to release really should hand their head in shame. It just wasn't ready by any stretch of the imagination. Should have released for console only. Then implement a proper set of KB/M controls.
