From Scylla Costa, producer on Dragon Age: Inquisition

Hi everyone,

On November 18, we released Dragon Age: Inquisition to the world. Since then, the team has listened to feedback and is working towards the first of an ongoing series of patches and feature/content updates in an effort to support your DAI experience.

As a live service, we wanted to let you know about our strategy moving forward. Here’s a brief outline of two initiatives we’re working on, in order of priority.

Priority 1 – Patches

We’re committed to providing long-term gameplay and stability improvements. We have already released a Day 1 Patch, and in December we will release our second patch. We expect the patch to roll out on PC, PS3, PS4, and Xbox 360 on December 9, 2014. We are working hard to get Patch 2 out on Xbox One as soon as possible.

Patch 2 is focused on stability, but does include numerous improvements and fixes across the board. Full patch notes will be available soon, but generally Patch 2 includes fixes to:

  • Stability – Various crashes, freezes, audio/voice glitches, and many stability improvements.
  • Gameplay – Conversations, quests, plot states, combat, UI, camera, controls, follower/enemy AI and path finding, exploits, radar, and search.
  • Multiplayer – In addition to some of the gameplay improvements listed above, multiplayer fixes also cover areas such as animations, game mode bugs, stat reporting, and stability/crash fixes.
  • PC – Numerous control & UI fixes, fixes to some hitching, improved Mantle performance, graphical glitches.

Beyond Patch 2 we’ll continue to release patches that focus on gameplay improvements. We’ve already lined up a number of improvements and fixes we’d like to include in Patch 3, and of course we’ll continue listening to you to make sure we’re addressing your concerns.

I wanted to call out a few specific topics as well, as they relate to patches:

  • Keyboard & Mouse controls – Patch 2 includes the first range of fixes towards addressing the feedback we’ve received on the PC controls; it cleans things up so you’ll see fewer problems with the current layout. This gives us a more stable base upon which to work. After Patch 2 goes out, our next priority is to improve the PC mouse/keyboard controls further. We’re investigating how to expand on PC usability and functionality to address specific requests from the community. Keep an eye on this thread by Mark Darrah for more updates.
  • Some people have reported problems with party banter firing. To find out more about how the Banter System works please go here. We have also identified that in some edge scenarios, banter isn’t firing as often as we’d like, so we’ll be increasing the percentage chance of it happening. This increase will come after Patch 2.

Priority 2 – Features and content

As massive as Dragon Age: Inquisition already is, there were some things the team wanted to get in at launch, but we just ran out of time. We’ll be creating these new features and content and adding them into your game over time because we love our DAI players. Multiplayer will also be receiving regular content updates.

In closing, I’d like to thank you for your patience. We appreciate your feedback, so keep it coming! We’re going to keep working on these patches and content while you’re off adventuring in the world of Dragon Age. In the meantime, please visit EA’s help website for the latest workarounds and updates.

I'll provide more info here as it becomes available.

You damn right Leliana is fine. And I can't bang her. thx feminists

Meh... stop trolling.

We all know that's probably because of the romance of DAO just like for Morrigan.

well it does need updating but it should be able to handle DAI

I think the problem is more on their end and hopefully Nvidia will release new driver soon that works better for the game. I expect that will happen soon though. They are probably waiting for this patch in BioWare's end.

A 660 can do high if you run MSAA on 2x or off. Depends on your CPU really.

I turned it off from the get go. No need for it really.

I have a question some other PC Origin users: Does anyone know how to check what update a given game is running on?

DAI as an example has no indicator in the game details in the Origin window, and within the game I can't find a version number anywhere. did a quick check and it's the same "problem" with games like The Sims 4 and Simcity. I just find it odd, one can't check the version number of the software that is installed. Or you now, maybe I am just blind.

No because I am seeing the good reviews, and the bad reviews together. I'm playing the game, I'm experiencing bugs that frustrate me, and I am coming here to see about the patch and communicating with fellow users. I am not saying Bioware has done no wrong, but I am saying the pitchforks aren't needed.

Oh I agree this is a great game and the "pitchforks aren't needed" but at the same time I don't feel compelled to THANK THEM for providing code that should have been in the initial release.  Clear now?

Wow that looks terribad. A fix like that likely won't be in this patch though.

Are you sure? Do we have patch notes available? If not then I will presume BioWare is full of good will.

She's my warden's love of his life! So no, I'm glad she's not romancable - I would hate her if she does become romancable.

There is a scenario where it's legit though, if your warden dies killing the arch demon. then I can totally see leliana being open to a new love interest after 10 years

This is my first live Bioware patch watch. Are they always this much fun?

Yes, and it gets better.  Soon as the patch is released, everyone sings praise, then as time go by, the mood changes and bobs-your-uncle, the patch becomes the most putrid patch ever.

Hmmm... true, or if the warden didn't romance her (like my city elf)... yeah she does seem rather lonely in my current world state :(

Still, even then, it'll just be a repeat of DAO's romance. I reckon it's good that they stuck to new romances.

Locate the actual DragonAgeInquisition.exe on your computer which should be in programs/origin games/dragon age inquisition right click it and go to properties then details and it'll show you what version you're running. Which as of now is 1.0.0.0

p.s. Patch doesn't appear to be live yet.

to check to see what version your game is you need to find dragonageinquisition.exe, and go into its properties and under the details tab it should have version information... (this is the windows 7 method not sure about 8 or 8.1

So I have to ask, when you're putting together lasagna do you put more emphasis on the meats or the cheese used? I'm more of a cheese guy myself, have to have at least 3 different kinds.

First of all, lasagna is about achieving the correct balance between meat and cheese. If you're sacrificing one for the other you're going to have overpower the basic flavour.

Second, trolling a post asking you politely not to troll? Come on, dude, have a little more sense than that.

I'm fairly sure all the men in the game could be literal hunchback trolls complete with dripping drool and snot, and as long as Greg Ellis did the voice, I'd still wanna bang 'em.

Same with Gideon Emery.  And the VAs for Blackwall and Alstair, and Dorian and ...

I have a voice thing.  Don't judge me!

You should see Ramon Tikaram, Dorians Va, in real life. That is a sexy, sexy man.

Anyone else know if the Patch (2) will fix the 'BLACK SCREEN OF DEATH' whilst trying to load up a save file ON PS3.

THANKS

In Win 8, go to your Programs and Features list.  If your version is 1.0.0.1, you already have patch 1.

Scylla Costa just tweeted that full patch notes will be released at noon Edmonton time.

Noone. Also CC abilities are useless against "bosses", they are all immune, and you can certainly do fine without them on normal enemies. Also most of the higher tier (lower on the skill tree) abilities are outright garbage. Static Cage comes to mind. As a mage that I've mostly experimented, I did dramatically more damage speccing into Energy Barrage (Storm) + Winter Stillness (Winter) + full on Rift Mage debuffing, rather than stacking 10 different low dmg cc abilities on one tree that don't work when I need them the most.

Yeah I've designed builds for all of my characters that focus heavily on just a few abilities, and in anything but nightmare I mop up most fights because all my guys aren't out of stamina all the time.
