It doesn't crash on me at all ...

Me neither. Unfortunately it doesnt't stop the game from being a vapid and shallow gaming experience.

For those who are experiencing crashes, I would ask you to take it as a welcome sign to stop playing.

Hey, enjoy the game if you can.  I'm envious of those that have an Xbox and a controller.  Well done.  Enjoy this RPG Action Shooter.

I believe the "standard" is to have a published game install without the need for a tech savvy PC user on standby.

This approach, admittedly, is a bit costly since it requires EA to budget for extensive QA efforts. On the other hand, I believe we deserve and expect a 60-70 dollar game to install and work properly. At the very least, the install software must be aware of the hardware / software requirements and check the target PC for compliance before installation begins.

My thinking is that the above approach was bypassed, for the PC, to meet the game's launch date. They did, however perform  extensive testing for the Next Gen consoles in order to obtain certification. Developers have no choice in this matter.

I don't consider knowing the basics of maintaining something you own, specifically a computer, to be tech savy. Every computer owner should know what hardware and software they have in thier computer, how to run diagnostics tools, how to update programs and drivers and, how to read and then, check to see if all of the items suggested to resolve or minimize a problem with a specific program are as suggested on thier computer.

Not knowing that, to me is like driving a car but you don't know what kind of fuel it takes, what make of car it is, how to open the hood and, you can't read the gagues on the dash - you just don't do that.

We thought that we'd be able to pause the game and issue commands/control party members.  We got a broken "tac cam".  I'm not even going to go further....it's a friggin' console port.  Just say WHAT platform you're playing with and stomp your hoof once if you're using a controller.

Well, not that it's even close to Origins in regards to tactics ... but I  play PC with keyboard/mouse and as with Origins, my style of play is to always pause throughout any given fight and delegate actions individually to each party member ... I hardly ever just let things run auto ...

So as a person who plays the game daily, I can say I've had pretty good experiences with the PC controls ...

Case in point ... a short vid I did the other day as part of another comment in this thread...

The entire video is an example of pausing and delegating functioning well but one of the better examples is at 1:37 secs; at that point,  I'm approaching a "T" intersection where I have multiple enemies to the right section of the "T" and one archer on the left section of the "T" ... I pause and tell Varric and Sera to head to the right section to deal with the multiple enemies there while I focus a freeze spell on the archer in the left section; at the same time as delegating the freeze spell I also tell Cassandra to travel to the same guy on the left that's getting my freeze spell and attack with "payback strike" ... I unpause, the freeze spell goes off and Cassandra begins moving towards the guy on the left to do her "payback strike" while Varric and Sera head towards the group on the right, but I pause again to send an "immolate" spell at the now frozen guy on the left just for combo/focus points and cause he might shatter; I unpause and the immolate spell hits the frozen guy, then I let Cassandra continue her task of "payback strike" on the same guy and that finishes him off nicely; then I go and help Varric and Sera finish off the guys on the right by tossing a "jar of bees" ... that whole "play by play" is exactly reflected in the video ... (the rest of the video shows more pausing and issuing of commands) ...

...

...

The commands go off pretty much like clockwork, really ... and as I said, I play that style through every encounter in the game ... and I played precisely the same with Origins (the slight tactical view camera differences not withstanding) ...  so how does pause/issue commands not work, again?

And no ... wouldn't dream of using a controller; never have and never will (with any game for that matter) ... WASD/Mouse all the way for me ... and again, I don't think the video indicates that the game is in any way compromised by using keyboard/mouse ... personally, I think it's way more tactile/responsive than using a controller but that's just me ...

Stupid and pointless analogy. Almost as pointless as the Skyhold 'customisations' but you'll need to do slightly better I'm afraid.

One month later after patch 2...

No news at all expect some vague allusion about fixing the drop key issues...

Buyed the Xbox360 and still waiting to actually PLAY THE GAME because the product is so bugged and glitched it is TOTALLY IMPOSSIBLE to advance the main plot of the story.

Bright, Neon colors break immersion.  Those stupid staff-whipping animations ALSO break immersion.  This game is breaking all of the rules and the wrong ones this time,  Alienate PC gamers...check.  Have a non-existence ability chart....I'm listening.  Now if you'll tell us that you're a lady and that you're also a man,,,,can we get on Unicorn pair of panties? With this charade of a game???  I'll welcome this bizarre attempt at a societal statement any day.  It's crude, and ham-handed, maybe anal-fisted, but it's an attempt

The first thing I had to recall when I started playing DA:I is that while just about everyone who praised the game for the writing, to me the writing is at a gas-station B-fiction pulp literature level. It's going to be ham-fisted, it's going to variate a lot in tone and quality in unexpected ways and generally it's going to be forgettable.

DA:I wants to be high fantasy... sometimes. Sometimes it thinks it's a clever social commentary project and other times it just forgets its point and position (no wonder with so many writers) - for example on the gay it seems to generally present gayness as simply accepted in Thedas. Then you read codex entries about some lord who had to keep his gay relationship a secret to avoid a scandal. Eh ok game. So gay is "bad" then in Thedas?

But this is the least of the game's inconsistencies, story-wise. I just found it silly that the writers couldn't get their story straight. Ahm. So yeah, it comes out as ham-fisted social commentary far more often than nuanced or intelligent social commentary.

And I expect that from Bioware, from the DA franchise and I call it pretty bad writing. I could do better. And don't write well.

But I digress, yes the staff animations are stupid and over-the-top, and yet so are all other combat animations. Colorful flashes and fire effects have replaced blood and gore. I miss blood and gore and would like to get back the fountain of blood when an enemy was decapitated. I'll sacrifice all the flashy effects for that.

Notice that swinging swords results in more flashing effects than blood. DA:I is a PG13 game. Even though they push 17+ on ESRB and 18 on PEGI, it certainly isn't because of graphic violence and blood. It's all "sex, nudity and strong language" the triumvirate of boring.

There isn't even that much strong language and good grief sex and nudity are better found on the interwebs than in this game.

Pf I'm not a random hater, I really like DA:I so I'm a random liker.

The writing is pretty bad tho bro. Not saying the story is bad, it's not. The writing is bad, mostly because of inconsistencies (objective) and the resulting lack of coherency.

I do appreciate the humor, sparse though it is.

I don't know if this is the right thread but I'm going to post here anyways:

I play on a PS4

I've done one playthrough before patch 2 and in almost every important cinematics conversations I had to push the square button to skip them, because it all froze, So a lot of the time, I didn't exactly know what happened (other than reading the journal afterwards). So that was annoying to say the least: It totally broke my immersion.

So patch 2 came out and although I didn't have a lot of time to play the game, I thought to start over and so I did. The freezing conversations are gone thank god, but now I don't have any partybanter and I don't have the Iron Bull storyline (can't get access, I only have the goodbye option), both which weren't an issue before patch 2.

I really want to enjoy the story (and gameplay) but Bioware, you are making it kind of hard right now. I don't want to start over again (also because of the length of the game)....

Something is wrong if I have to look stuff up on youtube to find out what happened....

So Bioware, I don't know when you are going to come out with patch 3, but I really hope soon. This is starting to get annoying and I really don't like myself when I get annoyed. And I want to like myself:)

There is a thread about the Xbox360 and PS3 versions : for a lot of persons, the game is purely unplayable because he don't launch at all. Having a broken game and no settings to make it work made us haters?

no! people that really cant play the game have every right to complain. but people stating the game is unplayable because cutscenes are only 30fps or because they cant scroll with mousecursor are. really unplayable is the game for maybe 10% of the people that argue with it.

No, the pc controls dont make the game unplayable (and the pc bugs) just only annoying as hell and boring like no other, so for just seeing the major plot i can just see the youtube videos and at least dont suffer XD

So... its unplayable?, No, worth it playing that way?, nop.

If DA:I had even a half-assed implementation of tactics we wouldn't have to pause and issue commands every .5 seconds.

If that's how you want to play, good for you.

I expect my party to know what their doing  and follow orders without being micro-managed or possessed constantly.

Yet another failure to deliver from BioWare/EA.

Is there another patch coming out anytime soon?

I play on Xbox One. Has anyone experience texture problems, weird camera angles, lagging, clipping issues and sfx going out sometimes?

Here's an example of a texture problem.

Maybe Possible Spoilers?

I'm also on a PS4 and have played a new game since patch 2 complete with Iron Bull's story missions.  Until you have a sufficiently high approval rating from him you won't see the mission.  Try focusing on gaining approval for a while and see if it doesn't change things, as it certainly did for me.

Even as someone who has supported Bioware it is getting fairly ridiculous how long it's been since patch 2 with no word.....Already starting to play the massive amount of games I got on sale during the steam sale...probably going to put DA:I down until new DLC comes out if the patch doesn't come out soon since I've already got 200 hours on it.

My biggest fear is that the lack of word has to do with maybe them not being able to fix the banter bug as well as other bugs adequately. That would truly suck. I still love DA:I, but you'd expect more "general" feedback (I don't expect them to reply to every poster calling them thieves and liars.) It's sad though...DA:I is probably a 9 or 9.5 out of 10 IMO, and the only missing points are things that really shouldn't have been an issue (banter, Dorian/Solas personal quests not triggering on subsequent playthroughs, occasional character model bugs.)

People complain because their has not been any updates from Bioware about a patch, but gotta keep in mind that its just shortly after Christmas and New Year's (Holidays) and chances are that most Bioware emloyees were out for vacation.

I'm sure they'll be coming around soon to give an update, once they have all their eggs in a basket (figure of speech).

Obviously we have two or more different camps here.

1. Those with display issues: May be NVidia related, I don't know

2. Those with opinions on the game itself: writing, plot, direction, etc

3. Those with PC UI problems

4. Those who see this game as poorly coded and missing so many details.

I am definitely in camp 4. I have had a few CTD's, no crashes really other than that. My screen is behaving itself nicely. I don't mind the story or plot. It is vanilla Bioware and no mods. But it's ok.

I can handle WASD, the UI is a piece of garbage, but whatever!

But for a PC game it is atrociously coded. If any of my guys tried to get this out the door it would be tragic and bloody!

250 savegame limit. All in one folder! You cannot name your saves OR tell who's save it is??? DAISAVETIME127CAF90 is a very descriptive name, eh? CAF90=female elf mage?

That is MSDOS style programming. Hello this is 2014!

No ability to change a decision? You can't select anything in DAI and change your mind!

No concept of sorting any list or fitting it on the screen in readable format.

At least in WoW you could go and check the help or speak to a GM. I gather you have seen the manual that comes with DAI, the console one? Bioware never appears on their own forum. Getting any information is like pulling teeth.

DAI was not coded to be played in a PC environment!! These things are indefensible. 1,2 and 3 you can argue about, but not 4.

Trust me, it's lacking on the tactical cam end as well. It really is.

Anyway I wanted to just state how hilarious this comment is: As massive as Dragon Age: Inquisition already is, there were some things the team wanted to get in at launch, but we just ran out of time.
