The graphics are a minor inconvenience. I started a new game and didn't even notice until it was brought up and I compared screenshots.

Would I like to see it hot fixed within the next 24 hours? Sure. Absolutely. I would love it if by the time I got home from dinner and watching Guardians of the Galaxy on blu-ray, it was already done.

However. It is a minor inconvenience. So my graphics aren't AMAZING right now. I'll live. It's not impeding my life. It's not even impeding my gameplay experience short of "oh, slightly lower quality textures/meshes/whatever."

I said this before when people decided it was okay to send death threats to Bioware and boycott them over five minutes. I'll say it again.

First. World. Problems.

Yeah, sorry for wanting to actually play the game that we have paid for. And it's not all about the graphics. I would gladly have sacrificed visual quality for a significant performance boost. But the performance is worse by around 10 fps AND the graphics are ruined. And SLI still works like crap. And the stuttering remains. And new problems appeared. What were they patching again?

You may see no problem in paying for a defective product. Some do.

Also, maybe I'm just old, but I can't help but laugh at people referring to the downgraded graphics as "ugly". I would have killed for a game with graphics like that when I was 16. Oh well; time is relative, as Einstein said.

Hi Conal, I appreciate the replies from you here. I understand it's probably hard to keep up with the ever increasing post count but you say Bioware is looking into this issue as if it's only affecting a few people. From my perspective here on BSN and a handful of other sites, this patch absolutely screwed up every PC players game.

I would really love to not have to wait another 3 weeks just to get this fixed. My game was fine pre-patch and now it's as if we're playing the 360 game, low quality textures, meshes, no scars or freckles, lesser complexions and more.

We need a hotfix on this, seriously.

I don't used to write in forums, but now I feel I must. I was able to play Dragon Age: Inquisition until the second patch with low/off settings and medium textures with playable framerates; and yes on a notebook (core i3 2350m 2.3Ghz with 4 threads, 8GB ddr3 1333Mhz ram, Geforce GT630m 1GB videocard and Windows 7 SP1 64bit), but now it stutters even in the main menu and in game almost constantly, what making the game unplayable.

I hope Bioware will fix this soon.  :(

(PS: Sorry for my grammar mistakes, English is not my first language.)

Same performance issues here, but on a desktop. The game is now unplayable. I had to use Task Manager to close it because the menu was freezing and stuttering so badly.

i5-2500K
16GB RAM
GTX 770 4GB
Windows 7 64-bit SP1

Sadly, even lowering my settings to low does not help.

HEY LOOK!

Right after we are told by a mod to stop using twiter to ask about the game, a developer goes and uses twitter to talk about the game, and still not use the correct forums hehe!

A legitimate question, not ironic: when did a mod ever say to stop using twitter?

What kind of a joke is this patch? Everything seems worse on Ultra. Hair is glowing, graphic looks worse. What the hell BioWare?

AND YOU STILL DIDN'T FIX THE SLI GLITCHES FFS. WHITE FOG EVERYWHERE.

That's the last straw, I'll buy games from other Devs from now on, really disappointed about your performance, patching stuff nobody complained about, not patching stuff everyone complains about and messing up the patch with new glitches.

I am 100% certain that this was not intentional.

I'm not 100% certain the universe even exists. Your confidence is remarkable!

1. All that time spent on the run has taken its toll.

2. It is arguable that the moisture in the skin has only moved to the hair.

3. Hawke drank from the wrong grail.

4. The wind around Skyhold really dries you out.

5. Hawke without makeup.

Hhaha, this is golden XD

So, I'm at work and when I get home I want to play DAI. But I don't want to download the patch. But Origin opens by default when I start DAI, and I think it is set to automatically download updates. So I assume it's going to stop me from playing until it downloads the patch.

How can I play when I get home without opening Origin? Or, even if Origin has to open, how do I play without being forced to download the patch?

OK, to sum up, since a lot of people still don't seem to be entirely clear on this:

  • The game no longer uses the graphic settings you've set in the in-game options, and defaults to low settings
  • The patch removed no files, so the high quality meshes and textures are still there, they're just not being used
  • Yes, having all settings on low will make the game, and the effects, look rather ugly
  • Changing the in-game graphic settings still changes the ProfileOptions_profile file in your save folder
  • The save games in your save folder are still being found, and can be loaded, by the patched game
  • The above two bullet points mean that the game still knows where to look for save games and graphics settings

So, seeing as the game knows where to find the configuration settings (and save games), it's not a general pathing error. I suspect it either can't find the high quality meshes and textures, they don't load correctly, or the game no longer knows how to interpret the settings in the ProfileOptions_profile file. Either way, the most likely scenario is that we'll need an updated DragonAgeInquisition.exe-file. That could take a while to compile and release.

The other, more attractive (but unfortunately more unlikely) scenario is that there's a spelling error in a config file somewhere that makes the game not find the ProfileOptions_profile-file - I find this unlikely since changing the in-game graphics options still changes this file.

Does your life depend on playing DAI? If it does... I don't know what to say. It's a VIDEO GAME. Thus, inconvenience.

A big problem is getting into a car crash.

A big problem is having your computer get wiped and losing all those important tax documents, or having your money stolen. A big problem is drama or a death in the family, or getting fired from work, or having a bad breakup.

A video game causing your pixels to lose more pixels is not a big problem.

How dare I expect quality!

NoooooOOOOoooes! Patched on PC and my game looks awful too on all settings, shiny hair, bad textures. Plus now have stuttering?! Had zero bugs before in over 100 hours played. Don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Laugh through the tears.

It's the only thing you can do right now.

The patch doesn't even make any real worthwhile changes. I think that makes it both funnier and more sad.

Patch improved performance (I had weird slowdowns at times, now they are only in crowded areas), but at the cost of the graphics downgrade. Me don't like shiney haaairrr! And give me my scar back! And the freckles!

Seriously, it fixed a few things, bugged others. It's software, that happens. I just hope they can implemt a hotfix for the graphics downgrade, cause that's weird it happened.

Now please work on the crashes and the banter and I'm happy. Thanks for the hard work!

You don't know if it really improved performance. It only downgraded your graphics. You could've done that without a patch, just by manually lowering the graphics in-game , and that would have resulted in higher fps.. so we don't really know on ULTRA how better the framerate is.

I tried renaming the patch folder to something else, and it doesn't change the shiny hair, so it is probably this file "d3dcompiler_46.dll" or the game executable wasn't it about 88mb before the patch now it is ~70mb? Anyone still have those files that haven't patched the game yet?

People have bee sending Bioware death threats? That...goes beyond the pale.

What's so absurd about it? Just take a look at this forum, this thread right here. Gamers nowadays seem to be big crybabies who are just waiting for a reason to rage...at the internet of course.

If you have the game downloaded, I think you can just launch the .exe file without signing in to the Origin client and it will let you play without patching.

But I'm not 100% positive.

You should have seen the ME3 forums 1 week from the launch.

I think that was during the whole Mass Effect 3 ending saga.

I was late enough to the Bioware party that I first played through the Extended Cut for the ending. I get the frustration, but death threats, jeez...
