OK, to sum up, since a lot of people still don't seem to be entirely clear on this:

  • The game no longer uses the graphic settings you've set in the in-game options
  • The patch removed no files, so the high quality meshes and textures are still there, they're just not being used
  • Yes, having all settings on low will make the game, and the effects, look rather ugly
  • Changing the in-game graphic settings still changes the ProfileOptions_profile file in your save folder
  • The save games in your save folder is still being found, and can be loaded, by the patched game
  • The above two bullet points mean that the game still knows where to look for save games and graphics settings

So, seeing as the game knows where to find the configuration settings (and save games), it's not a general pathing error. I suspect it either can't find the high quality meshes and textures, they don't load correctly, or the game no longer knows how to interpret the settings in the ProfileOptions_profile file. Either way, the most likely scenario is that we'll need an updated DragonAgeInquisition.exe-file. That could take a while to compile and release.

The other, more attractive (but unfortunately more unlikely) scenario is that there's a spelling error in a config file somewhere that makes the game not find the ProfileOptions_profile-file - I find this unlikely since changing the in-game graphics options still changes this file.

Scars have also disappeared.

Yeah, you be glad their is no patch for you if it is as bad as the PC version.  THe PC patch?  Made things worse.

Does your life depend on playing DAI? If it does... I don't know what to say. It's a VIDEO GAME. Thus, inconvenience.

A big problem is getting into a car crash.

A big problem is having your computer get wiped and losing all those important tax documents, or having your money stolen. A big problem is drama or a death in the family, or getting fired from work, or having a bad breakup.

A video game causing your pixels to lose more pixels is not a big problem.

It's a big problem in the context of a video game forum. I'm not sure why you're attempting to establish some sort of false dichotomy by ranting about car crashes.

Also, maybe I'm just old, but I can't help but laugh at people referring to the downgraded graphics as "ugly". I would have killed for a game with graphics like that when I was 16. Oh well; time is relative, as Einstein said.

Oh, please, my first game was on an Atari.

You want me to compare to f.. E.T.?

DAI is ugly compared to what it was before the patch. No way around it.

So I tried to downgrade the game by right-clicking the whole Origin folder, choosing Properties, Previous Version, and restoring a backup from a few hours ago. It seems to have worked as Origin has tried to patch the game again. Buuut. If I refuse to patch and disable auto-patching, the game won't start. If I set Origin to Offline, it will ask me to login to re-validate the game. If I go online again, I get an error message that Origin could not connect to the server.

No matter what I do the game is completely broken for me because either the patch will make it freeze or Origin won't let me play it.

EA, ORIGIN SUCKS REALLY REALLY REALLY HARD. Why can't I simply choose not to update my game???

Expecting quality and expecting instant fix while acting as if the sky is falling are two different things.

Other companies fix game breaking patches asap, Bioware has no excuse.

I was late enough to the Bioware party that I first played through the Extended Cut for the ending. I get the frustration, but death threats, jeez...

It was a mad, mad time.

Been about since Baldurs Gate and Icewine Dale.... Those were, interesting times

Loaded an autosave on my game. I CAN CONFIRM : This patch DOES fix the voice change bug when you encounter Hawke.

But AT WHAT COST BIOWARE!?! AT WHAT COST!?! Is it just me or are the complexion sliders broken also! What happened to my Hawke! She looks like a box of dry raisinets!!!

Spoiler

tumblr_m5rtcjhuv51r6aoq4o1_250.gif

Luckily I knew of the voice change bug prior to this, so I have a save before meeting her. I can easily change her complexion if need be, I was just so shocked by this I had to make it of note. In hindsight I think this is kinda hilarious. Did anyone else see changes to their Hawke's complexion or any other characters. Aside from this I noticed Harding didn't have freckles, and her chin scar was gone but as far as NPC's being afflicted with OCFS (Old Crusty Face Syndrome) Hawke was the only one I saw :/

Learn to sunscreen?  :D

So, on the plus side: no sound problems in the cutscenes, no weird graphics jerkiness in same place too. Probably fixed the weird bugs with voice switching or unclear gender (I didnt test, so no idea). Down side is the lower textures and shinier hair/beard, possibly other graphic settings too. Maybe there will be a hotfix? I wonder how heavy and bureaucratic process they have set in origin for patches.

There is a setting to disable automatic updates in Origin, but since you've downloaded the patched version already Origin might see the previous version as "corrupt" and try to fix it.

The graphics are a minor inconvenience. I started a new game and didn't even notice until it was brought up and I compared screenshots.

Would I like to see it hot fixed within the next 24 hours? Sure. Absolutely. I would love it if by the time I got home from dinner and watching Guardians of the Galaxy on blu-ray, it was already done.

However. It is a minor inconvenience. So my graphics aren't AMAZING right now. I'll live. It's not impeding my life. It's not even impeding my gameplay experience short of "oh, slightly lower quality textures/meshes/whatever."

I said this before when people decided it was okay to send death threats to Bioware and boycott them over five minutes. I'll say it again.

First. World. Problems.

Any problem involving a video game is a 'first world problem'. That doesn't make it not a real problem, or modify in any way the fact that the game is worse now than it was before. And this is just within 30 seconds of loading a saved game - there are already reports trickling in of more subtle problems involving plot flags, quests, and game mechanics.

So please, take your smarmy holier-than-thou attitude and go somewhere else.

Actually, no, I directly told people to tweet to @dragonage with issues as well as posting in Answers HQ, as it is the best way to get your message to our support staff.

I asked that people not "hammer" on these sites, and have asked in the past that people do not spam the devs like Mark, as it is not the best way to get your feedback across.

Your last few posts have been actively trying to fan flames. Please stop this, as it is not helpful to getting anything done.

We are looking into this issue and appreciate our users bringing things to our attention, but angry, spurious accusations do not get us anywhere.

Heck I do agree with you, my point was exacly that, I think people shouldn't get spammed on twitter or facebook or whatever about the game, but then again they shouldn't adress anything there or post news about it either, if that's what's expected.

I'm not trying to flame anything, and giving me a warning cause I directed my post at you, doesn't quite seem fair either, seeing that you are telling people to cool off, and raging doesn't help anything, but then give a warning to the guy who pointed you out on not being right to some degree.

You're not happy that people are angry, but I'm pretty sure most of us don't like to be angry in the first place. This patch broke a lot more than it fixed, and when you were saying that all my latest posts are flames, no they aren't I stated the obvious, that a 3 week patch on a triple A game is a long time for today's standards, so one would expect that at leas,t seeing it took so long it would at least fix more things than it broke, and it did the exact opposite.

Hi Conal, I appreciate the replies from you here. I understand it's probably hard to keep up with the ever increasing post count but you say Bioware is looking into this issue as if it's only affecting a few people. From my perspective here on BSN and a handful of other sites, this patch absolutely screwed up every PC players game.

I would really love to not have to wait another 3 weeks just to get this fixed. My game was fine pre-patch and now it's as if we're playing the 360 game, low quality textures, meshes, no scars or freckles, lesser complexions and more.

We need a hotfix on this, seriously.

This.

When they actually break the game in such a way that they force it down to xbox 360 graphics, and also mess up the complexities/looks of people's characters it's a major problem that needs to be fixed fast and not in 2 weeks.

People paid money for a PC product with good graphics, so when this and many other things (complexity etc) is turned upside down with a patch that can not be reverted, the product is broken.

So hopefully Bioware takes this seriously and actually hotfix it as fast as they can for PC.

No trouble here, banter is triggered more frequently and the game loads just normal. No weird glitches :)

It would be useful to know what platform you're playing on.

Oh my god! My sides, my sides are flat-out gone. I'm in tears, you guys are too funny, thank you. Can we agree at least that making fun of my heroine addict Hawke, is probably the only bright side to this Patch. This actually should be apart of the patch notes.

What's so absurd about it? Just take a look at this forum, this thread right here. Gamers nowadays seem to be big crybabies who are just waiting for a reason to rage...at the internet of course.

I'm a newbie gamer, so this kinda feels directed at me...but I just feel there's a huge difference between 'your game sux and your service sux; i'll never buy Bioware again!' and death threats. One is a perfectly legitimate, if overwrought, reaction and the other is, well, threatening to murder someone for not making a good game.
