OK, so the patch completely borked my game. I was having stability problems and crashing before, but I could still work around it. Now, I can't even get through one measly cut scene and that's with worse graphics thanks to the patch. I am uninstalled and reinstalling which will likely take me the rest of the day to do, and I have told Origin not to auto-patch, so we'll see if I can get the game to revert back to what it was until the patch gets fixed.

I really didn't mind the downgraded graphics as much as I enjoyed my elven mage not being treated like a human noble, and being able to don elven armour.

Then I noticed I couldn't notice scout Hardings freckles!

But please calm down, this is obviously something that will be hotfixed, so just bear with the scarless game or wait a day or two.

Oh my god! My sides, my sides are flat-out gone. I'm in tears, you guys are too funny, thank you. Can we agree at least that making fun of my heroine addict Hawke, is probably the only bright side to this Patch. This actually should be apart of the patch notes.

Other companies fix game breaking patches asap, Bioware has no excuse.

I don't think you know what gamebreaking means.

Loaded an autosave on my game. I CAN CONFIRM : This patch DOES fix the voice change bug when you encounter Hawke.

But AT WHAT COST BIOWARE!?! AT WHAT COST!?! Is it just me or are the complexion sliders broken also! What happened to my Hawke! She looks like a box of dry raisinets!!!

Spoiler

tumblr_m5rtcjhuv51r6aoq4o1_250.gif

Luckily I knew of the voice change bug prior to this, so I have a save before meeting her. I can easily change her complexion if need be, I was just so shocked by this I had to make it of note. In hindsight I think this is kinda hilarious. Did anyone else see changes to their Hawke's complexion or any other characters. Aside from this I noticed Harding didn't have freckles, and her chin scar was gone but as far as NPC's being afflicted with OCFS (Old Crusty Face Syndrome) Hawke was the only one I saw :/

I feel with you ... but also laughed so hard looking at the gif. It clearly depicts me encountering my "new" Inquisitor. XD

Dear BioWare,

Thank you for making my game crash more often than it was.

I was getting up to 3 hours between crashes ... sometimes.

Now it crashes every 15 minutes ... at most.

That's IF it loads at all.

I suggest you figure out how to uninstall this so called patch asap if you cannot do better.

I was actually enjoying the game before, in spite of the crashes.

Now however ...

So, on the plus side: no sound problems in the cutscenes, no weird graphics jerkiness in same place too. Probably fixed the weird bugs with voice switching or unclear gender (I didnt test, so no idea). Down side is the lower textures and shinier hair/beard, possibly other graphic settings too. Maybe there will be a hotfix? I wonder how heavy and bureaucratic process they have set in origin for patches.

Whatever happend to dish out a manual installer for a hotfix?

I still remember being able to just manually download a patch for DAII

The pictures of the graphics on PC now look like the PS3/360 version. Everything is glossy.

Well, with my old Nvidia GTX295 I was running the game on low graphics anyway, so for me it's working fine - but I can understand that people with more recent stuff are upset...

Probably a bit older here :).  The home PC didn't even exist when I was 16.  Part of the high price we paid for the game included upgraded graphics, per the Bioware developers.  They sang praises to their great graphics in all the promos.  When I first started playing CRPG's it was on a black screen with green vector graphics.  We KNEW what we were getting when we bought the game, with DA:I many of the things they touted before release are seriously broke and from what I'm reading (I really, really don't want to go in game and see how borked my character is), the patch just upped the screwed ante expotentially.  I'm getting tired of developers thinking of the PC as the step child and think a quick, dirty port should be enough.

To be fair, this patch did fix the voice change for using custom Hawke and makes it easier to use the loot radar thingy.

Too bad everything else is broken as hell.

I have not seen any death threats in the last 20 pages of this threat. People are over-exaggerating, most of what I see is legitimate frustration due to the game being almost unplayable.

A fix soon would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the patch! I'm glad to see issues such as the 'voice set back to default' and 'race/class/gender' bug have been fixed, among others :)

I'm also glad to see you're trying to improve upon the dreadful search-mechanic - it's still not enough though. The spamming of 'v', the ping sound and the visual submarine sonar pulse I can do without, so I hope to see a toggle in the Options menu, as in DA2, to always highlight interactables OR the possibility to just hold a button as in Origins.

Which part you didn't get after hundreds of posts complaining about this issue? Why PC gamers need to buy a controller to play a PC game? It doesn't make any sense and if that's the way the devs created the game, why it wasn't specified on the requirement for the PC version before letting people pre-order the game? This game was advertized as PC game, created by PC gamers for PC gamers. No one said a word about having to play with a controller to be able to enjoy a basic expected feature as being able to walk/run toggle function. The first time I heard of it was when Mr. Schumacher revealed on one of this threads that he mostly played DAI with a controller during the development process of the game and he humbly accepted that they should have paid more attention at the performance of said game using only M/K.

PC games are often played by PC gamers using controllers on their PC.

OK, to sum up, since a lot of people still don't seem to be entirely clear on this:

  • The game no longer uses the graphic settings you've set in the in-game options
  • The patch removed no files, so the high quality meshes and textures are still there, they're just not being used
  • Yes, having all settings on low will make the game, and the effects, look rather ugly
  • Changing the in-game graphic settings still changes the ProfileOptions_profile file in your save folder
  • The save games in your save folder is still being found, and can be loaded, by the patched game
  • The above two bullet points mean that the game still knows where to look for save games and graphics settings

So, seeing as the game knows where to find the configuration settings (and save games), it's not a general pathing error. I suspect it either can't find the high quality meshes and textures, they don't load correctly, or the game no longer knows how to interpret the settings in the ProfileOptions_profile file. Either way, the most likely scenario is that we'll need an updated DragonAgeInquisition.exe-file. That could take a while to compile and release.

The other, more attractive (but unfortunately more unlikely) scenario is that there's a spelling error in a config file somewhere that makes the game not find the ProfileOptions_profile-file - I find this unlikely since changing the in-game graphics options still changes this file.

good one.
things I noticed since the patch:
-the ICE in haven looks like a horrific texture instead of the beutifull 3D stuff we had before (prolly graphical settings issue)
-hair became incredibly shiny for some weird reason (prolly graphical settings issue)
-I get huge random framefrops to about 1/2fps
-still getting DirectX chrashes about every hour, as before the patch
-I get no noticable stability improvement whatsoever.
-Scars aren't visable in the character creator, thus it's impossible to apply them to your character.
to me it appears nothing has improved, and only new issues occurred..

I really want to be proud of Bioware, saying "thanks for patching it and improving the game", but this truly disappoints me. I waited 3 weeks before starting my SP campaign for this patch, and it only appeared to become worse.

Also, people report complexity has changed, I created my character today, does that mean, when you re-patch your patch, my complexity will change? We should be given a option in-game (PC console command?) to re-edit our characters, fixing what the patch has broken.

I'm not trying to flame anything, and giving me a warning cause I directed my post at you, doesn't quite seem fair either, seeing that you are telling people to cool off, and raging doesn't help anything, but then give a warning to the guy who pointed you out on not being right to some degree.

Sorry for barging in, but...this sentence makes no sense. At all. Giving you a warning is not raging, if that's what you tried to say.

I simply tried deleting the "update" folder in the DAI installation folder and restarting the game. Sadly with that as a result.

The patch folder only contains resource updates.

This monstrosity lives in the code. You'd need to revert the executable, which isn't possible without a system restore (if you have it enabled and it actually works), a backup, or a reinstallation from disc.
