Prior to this patch I had exactly 1 CTD in almost 70 hours of play, some weirdness with conversations now and then when the NPC I was talking to would still be meandering around during the conversation, and one round of weirdness with a cutscene in which all of my party showed up, but the NPC we were suppose to be conversing with was not and none of his dialogue fired, which made it kind of a guessing game to figure out what what happening. Otherwise, the game was running beautifully for me. Since the patch the bug with NPC's not fully entering into conversation happens almost every conversation and conversations are now randomly aborting. Worse, the "fix" to make party banter trigger more often has resulted in my companions being completely silent--not a single banter in nearly 2 hours of play. I've changed party, changed area, explored new areas, put companions together that I have never run together and nada.

I understand that the game is huge and bugs happen, but I would really like a way to roll back this patch.

So, I'm at work and when I get home I want to play DAI. But I don't want to download the patch. But Origin opens by default when I start DAI, and I think it is set to automatically download updates. So I assume it's going to stop me from playing until it downloads the patch.

How can I play when I get home without opening Origin? Or, even if Origin has to open, how do I play without being forced to download the patch?

Just unplug the network-cable/turn off w-lan what ever your internet-connection is.

Also, maybe I'm just old, but I can't help but laugh at people referring to the downgraded graphics as "ugly". I would have killed for a game with graphics like that when I was 16. Oh well; time is relative, as Einstein said.

Yes. At this point for me, aesthetics are not the impetus for game enjoyment. Not saying we should live with this, we shouldn't and won't. Hopefully it's an easy to remedy mistake. I'm more "QoL-nerd happy" over the things like radar ping on the minimap.

PC user, also experiencing massive graphics issue after applying Patch 2.

I was running 50-60 FPS on Ultra settings before with a GeForce GTX 670 with current 344.75 drivers.

Now, no matter what settings I use, the game basically looks the same and tops out at 30 FPS.

I don't mind the shiny hair or complexion changes so much as the fact that my FPS was cut in half, graphical quality suffered tremendously regardless of settings, and sometimes the graphics lag so much that FPS drops into single digits, even on the loading screen (I can see stuttering when the templars and mages are marching).

Pretty sure they're already going to be doing that now.

They are still on the normal clock. Should only be 2pm right now there.

After my initial "god the shiny hair!" shut down of the game, reading here about the other issues made me re-open it and try some things.

Shiny hair, stubble/shadow is gone. He seems a younger somehow (missing wrinkles?).

Also, yes Scout Harding's freckles are gone and ice looks plain and painted now.

borkPatch1sml.jpg

borkPatch2.jpg

Meshes seem to be all over the place. Some look better, some look worse. The hair problem is on pretty much all characters, though bright hair colors show it less. Cullen's hair looks more defined though but still has shine. That is somehow very funny ;) Curly got some special love.

My settings are a mix between medium and high. Practically everything character related was on high, terrain on medium.

This really takes the fun away from playing :( I want that shiny hair gone and my old skin back!

Wow. So everything's been rolled back to the awful, unplayable level of my playthrough of Dragon Age II.

Horrors.

I would imagine they will burn the midnight oil to get the hotfix taken care of, if they need to. But closing time on the West Coast isn't for another three hours, so they might get to knock off on time after all.

Regardless, hyperbole about how the hotfix probably won't be out until forever doesn't really help anything, and comes off as adolescent pouting.

Yep i'd bet as well we'll see a hotfix soon, but i can understand many people that were unfortunate enough to upgrade, hopin for an improved game and shiny new things losing their temper... luckily my update was so slow that it wasn't nearly finished by the time the first comments about broken meshes coming in here, so ya... thanks everyone who got unlucky i guess  ^_^

I'm guessing vsync is stuck on. In general lots of graphics options seem to be ignored, and if you werent consistently getting better than 60fps, then vsync would lower it to 30.

So I decided to talk to Bull to see the clear differences in graphics, the big downgrade and the problem with the hairs, and the cinematic starts with Cassandra practise fighting with Bull near her usual place, so on top of the game looking real hugly now, even with everything on Ultra, I have Cassandra standing in front of Bull talking to him, and guss who's behind bull hitting the target dummies? yep... Cassandra! Hey look! Clones! hehe both looking worse than before.

OK, a repost might not be strictly inside the forum rules here, but for newcomers:

  • The game no longer uses the graphic settings you've set in the in-game options, and defaults to low settings
  • The patch removed no files, so the high quality meshes and textures are still there, they're just not being used
  • Yes, having all settings on low will make the game, and the effects, look rather ugly
  • Changing the in-game graphic settings still changes the ProfileOptions_profile file in your save folder
  • The save games in your save folder are still being found, and can be loaded, by the patched game
  • The above two bullet points mean that the game still knows where to look for save games and graphics settings

So, seeing as the game knows where to find the configuration settings (and save games), it's not a general pathing error. I suspect it either can't find the high quality meshes and textures, they don't load correctly, or the game no longer knows how to interpret the settings in the ProfileOptions_profile file. Either way, the most likely scenario is that we'll need an updated DragonAgeInquisition.exe-file. That could take a while to compile and release.

The other, more attractive (but unfortunately more unlikely) scenario is that there's a spelling error in a config file somewhere that makes the game not find the ProfileOptions_profile-file - I find this unlikely since changing the in-game graphics options still changes this file.

Are you trying to be liked by Bioware ?

Just saying that since it's odd that you're trying to look down on people by saying "they should've know, noobs" things like that.

So for your information you're also not helping Bioware to get usefull information by making that post.

Honestly I don't care if Bioware likes me or not. There are alot of things I'm extremely unhappy with the way they sometimes do things. My post to whoever that Bioware guy is was directed at those people who are acting like...as you said "noobs".

And you think posts like "**** you Bioware you suck I'm never buying another game from you again." helps them get useful info?

Some people in this thread are acting like this **** is easy, because they mod their games, they know some C++ and general coding that they are experts on how to run a Multi-Million Dollar business. They don't. They sit there and pretend they know that Bioware has a "Fix All" button and they are purposely getting screwed over.

**** happens, things get broke. flooding to the forums, twitter and whatever else they use to attack and threaten because of it is childish. Bioware has stated multiple times over the last couple of hours that they are working on it. even asking for patience while they address the issue. Yet half the people here posting in this forum are completely ignoring that. instead they pick and choose what they want to read and reply.

i still have my voice changed :| any solution for that ?

Bug fixes generally don't work rectroactively to fix games where the effects of the bug have already taken place. The bug fix just means that it won't occur in the future.

There's no way for it to go into your save and edit your voice back - after all, how would the fix know whether the default accent that your character now has isn't there by choice, but was switched due to the bug? If the fix just switched your voice without knowing, then it would be as bad as the bug itself, as many players who went with the default voice to begin with would now find their character's voice switched to something they did not choose.

Perhaps if they provided - or some modder provided - a save game editor where you could edit things like the voice of your character, that might allow you to "recover your voice".

I'll repeat what I said before:

It looks like there's either been a mixup between patches (PC got Low Gen Console treatment by accident) or there's a scripting error between the game's code & the graphic settings stored in the Profile file kept in your Saves Folder.

And unless these things are deeply embedded within the patch's code, there should be no issue in rolling out a hotfix ASAP rather than fixing it with the next patch in a couple of weeks or whenever that rolls out live. (Which would suck too 'cause that next patch would need to be revamped to include more fixes)

Runs terrible for me after the patch with terrain (Mainly the mountains and large rock formations) glitching out with black textures and being see-through.

What the hell happened to my character's hair?

It's unbearably shiny. It looks horrible. Modifying Meshes doesn't seem to make a difference, they're on Ultra.

Edit. Oh, great. Seems like changing any graphical setting actually doesn't do anything at all.

Dafuq went wrong?

I am having the same graphical issues detailed earlier in this thread. The dev team is aware of the issue and is working on a solution. I hate these problems as much as the rest of you but the best thing we can do right now is tell the devs about the issues we have experienced so they can push a fix out asap.

Yes i noticed this aswell, normally my fps was between 55-80 on a mix of ultra/high-ish settings, now it's locked to 60 fps, something else to add to the bug list.

And vsync is disabled ofcourse.

I think it's funny that people think spamming the boards because of busted patches is unusual.  From what I've read of this thread, for the most part people are just legitimately venting their frustration.  You should have seen the old Ultima Online boards on patch day.  Half the people screaming because the bug they were exploiting was fixed and half screaming because a NEW bug (or 8 or 20) was screwing their character up.  For the two years I played, it was normal to have a monthly patch, then the patch to fix the patch, then a roll back and another patch that, hopefully, fixed at least the most egregious bugs.  You learned to go with the flow, since the developers were also learning as they went.  Luckily, back then, several of the developers were on the boards daily discussing issues and just hanging out.  That tended to keep the drama to a minimum.

Great work again, you managed to patch out the only good things in the game it seems. Tac cam still useless (still is fixed to the ground, can't clip through obstacles, doesn't occlude anything, etc) and for some reason my hair is apparently made out of diamonds now.

I don't have the time nor the patience for your bullshit.

No, it means the exact opposite. The game still finds your save files.
