There is no reason to think that this was intended. A more plausible explaination is confirmation bias during QA, where tests were performed which would expect a positive result (Running on a potato-machine to test the upgraded hair mesh for 'Low'), but not a test where a negative result is expected (Running on a non-potato-machine to test the prior 'High' & 'Ultra' meshes).

Then why are the textures for certain armor materials completely different? It's not just a lowered quality, the entire patterns of certain materials were changed/removed, gloss removed, colors altered, etc.

Was the voice fix not retroactive? I logged in after getting the patch, and my originally deep-voiced Warrior still sounds like the default voice.

All reports suggest that it is not retroactive.

Likely it's permanently saved and there's no way to determine if the bug changed your voice or if you set it that way purposely at character creation.

But it is apparently fixed for people who haven't yet been affected.

Then why are the textures for certain armor materials completely different? It's not just a lowered quality, the entire patterns of certain materials were changed/removed, gloss removed, colors altered, etc.

This is natural degradation caused by lowering quality settings.

The effects can be huge.

This was not done by intent, and hopefully they plan to fix this sooner than later.

Wasn't this patch supposed to also fix the party banter and dialogue freeze-ups?  On my PS4, it doesn't seem to have addressed either.  My party still rarely banters, and I had to press the "skip" button during a dialogue with Cassandra back in Haven because it just hung up on my character with no dialogue options for me to pick from.

The thing i hardly accept is that prior the patch i never experienced freezing issue, crash, missing dialogue or any sort of problem, i was nicely playing at ultra setting never going under 53/54 fps. Actually i got a 60 fps stable but with horrible graphics. So this patch was absoluty worthless.

I was thinking if someone had a non updated game could share the exe file, just to have a try replaging it.

I'm surprised you can even run the game.

In any case, since I assume you play on lowest settings, you should count yourself lucky you weren't subjected to the graphical fiasco that the patch gave us.

Yes, I've been on the lowest settings. It sucks, but it's my fault for not spending the $250 for a better card. I will remedy this someday when that isn't the most important thing to spend my money on. Heh! The rest of my PC is in the middle to higher side of the recommended settings, so it handles the game fine. So overall, yeah I guess I have been lucky I can run the game ok.

Cutscenes still stutter

Scars no longer possible in chargen

Game looks noticeably worse. Totally noticeable during the first stage. The frozen lake looked awesome before (was semi-translucent and had actual depth), now it just looks like a normal texture.

This is pretty sad Bioware. You actually made the game worse.

What I'm very worried about is whether I'll ruin my character by saving my game now. I understand the face complexion issues likely won't stick around (the problem likely comes from PS3/360 versions having less textures and filenames thus linking to the wrong files), but I'm worried about my scars and stuff. If I were to save my game in patch 2 the way it is now, then load my game in a theoretical hotfix or patch 3, would my scars return?

My guess is something messes up the texture selection. That most people - apparently not all - have the low settings might just be a side effect.

Guys, just chill out about reinstallation. There's been TWO patches released for this game. If you uncheck Origin's automatic update box and install through disc, you will most likely NOT be able to resume your game, because you will not have PATCH ONE installed.

So the hair was fine for me prior to this patch but now, post patch, everyone has very shiny hair. I'm playing on high. The only setting I have below high is terrain tessellation. I'm using mantle.

Anyone have this problem post patch?

@fingerboxes.  My point was there are good reasons why some of us won't go the controller route.  You made it sound like we were just being silly because we wouldn't switch.  I never said that keyboard/mouse was the defining attribute for a PC game.  I used to have both a joystick and wheel system setup many, many moons ago.  It took awhile to get used to the keyboard and mouse combo, instead of just the straight keyboard/joystick or wheel.  None of those were painful to use for me and the controllers are.  Of course I was much younger and the "twitch" factor on most of those games was way lower.  I preordered DA:I for both my husband and myself and he won't even bother trying it with all the issues.  So that cash is probably going to be wasted.  If they can't get the problems under control and FIX the crappy k/m interface, then I'm not sure I'm going to bother finishing.  I've got 2500+ hours in Skyrim and can just wander back over there and add more. Or Fallout, or....choices, lots of choices.  I WANT to love this game.  I WANT to finish it.  My threshold for bs in games gets lower as I get older and I'm just hoping DA:I doesn't reach it before they fix it to the point where I'm happy to play it.

Run out of daily "Likes". So, I like this post. And for the record: I never said kb+m was the defining attribute for PC games either. I just stated that I never felt the need to use a controller for playing games like DA:I and so on.

Holy butt cockles, I had to sign in just to reply to this.  First off they did do testing on the patch it would not have been released otherwise.  I for one have no issues, no graphics degredation no crashes.  If it works on their pc and works on mine the problem is usually the customers pc.  It can be any number of things. When a new patch comes out for any game you always make sure you have the latest graphics driver and sound drivers.  Aside from that make sure you have the latest .net installed with patches, this is important because the code in the game is done with libraries from .net and others.  A company cannot account for everyones pc and the drivers and other software they have that may conflict with the game. Thats on you to keep your pc straight.

Would you mind posting a SS of your character on High/Ultra so we can confirm a case of someone being unaffected?

Overwhelming majority of whom? People who complain? Well, obviously the overwhelming majority of them have problems, that's why they complain.

@pdusen

There is enough evidence (countless screenshots with shiny hair/low(er) textures) of a wide variety of users to back up our statements.

People have the right to complain, since this is the result they get after waiting for a patch to adress the game's problems.

You provide nothing, except one smartass comment stating that it is our fault the game is behaving the way it is with the new patch while nothing in our pc configs has actually changed.

If you can find one person who was playing on a non-potato\console, with 'High' or 'Ultra' meshes before, and is not blind who is not experiencing any graphics degradation, I'll eat my leg.

Indeed :(

Why oh why did I not wait. My game was perfectly playable outside minor bugs.

Well, the options are really unbalanced in this one: not installing the patch is the obviously superior choice  /gallows humor

Edit:

And the game is deceptive about it as well! You'd think installing the patch would be superior, but noooo..... not a good way to implement a choice.

I made the mistake of updating my game, and now the Inquisition is being led by a 90 year old woman with extremely greasy hair. Ironically, I had  no issues with the game before the patch.

You can't be serious.

67 pages of people describing, analyzing and asking about this exact problem, and you're wondering if you're the only one?

I'm going to bed. Oh, and to the poster - check my post on page 58 to answer your question. Or, you know, any of the other 67 pages in this thread.

Because settings are globally affected. If you downgraded your mesh and texture quality before, those same changes occurred.

I made a copy of the game folder when I first bought the game pre-patch, but as soon as I paste it into origin games, Origin somehow installs the patch, even though I have automatically keep games updated unchecked. How do I play without origin touching my game?

Reading all the reaction puts me in mind of something I read years and years ago from an exasperated bio dev on the forums who wrote, "It's not like we sit around trying to figure out ways to slap the fun out of your hand".  I thought that was hilarious, the visual imagery of it, the turn of phrase.  How obvious it was when you thought seriously about it.

Obviously there's been some kind of mess up.  Wrong patch version uploaded out of dozens of iterations.  A last minute seemingly benign/minor tweak that caused unforseen cascading chaos.  A mistake.  Made by humans.  Trying their best.  I make mistakes, and I bet most of the rest of you do too, at work, that aren't the subject of intense, immediate scrutiny by tens of thousands.  Most here have demonstrated compassion, patience, and humour, which is cool; for the rest, maybe cut bio a bit of slack?
