I gotta say this.

BW you've managed to make the game worse. I had almost no bugs or glitches prior to patch 2. Hell, I was enjoying DA:I all the way. Now, the graphics is totally screwed. You had 3 f~ weeks to fix things.

I think I found a possible way to uninstall the patch

I found this post on Tumblr. When I get the chance I'll try it myself, but for everyone else seeking a solution here you go. Really hope this works, tell me if anyone gets any positive results.

So the hair was fine for me prior to this patch but now, post patch, everyone has very shiny hair. I'm playing on high. The only setting I have below high is terrain tessellation. I'm using mantle.

Anyone have this problem post patch?

Same.  Everything in my game was fine.  I'd had no issues prior to the patch but I have super shiney hair now and low res other stuffs and I was using all high settings except on shadows.

There's also a complexion bug causing a lot of player characters to look elderly when they weren't before.

*raises hand* Happened to my little elf mage. Glad I'm not the only one, cuz I didn't think the patch took that long to be released.

For once, I am grateful that I have very slow internet speed.   Returned home, opened Origin and saw the download of the patch begin.  Then came to this forum thread and started reading the reaction of players to the Patch.  Reactions were expectedly joyful after finally getting a patch.  Then after reports of gameplay came in, the optimism started to vanish to worry.  And now it is clear the patch is making things worse than before, in most instances.  Luckily, made the decision to stop the patch at about 80% and turned off the auto-download game update option from Origin.

I have posted a lot of (what I believe to be legitimate) criticism of DAI for how it is a downgrade from CRPGs for the PC, in Bioware's once stellar history.  However, one thing I thought they did superbly in DAI was the graphics.  From many of the screenshots players have posted, it appears that the video quality has reverted back to DAO quality, if not worse.  I wish they could have reverted PC controls to DAO standards, I could then accept the "retro" graphics.  But bad PC controls AND freaky looking graphics?  No thank you.

Reading all the reaction puts me in mind of something I read years and years ago from an exasperated bio dev on the forums who wrote, "It's not like we sit around trying to figure out ways to slap the fun out of your hand".  I thought that was hilarious, the visual imagery of it, the turn of phrase.  How obvious it was when you thought seriously about it.

Obviously there's been some kind of mess up.  Wrong patch version uploaded out of dozens of iterations.  A last minute seemingly benign/minor tweak that caused unforseen cascading chaos.  A mistake.  Made by humans.  Trying their best.  I make mistakes, and I bet most of the rest of you do too, at work, that aren't the subject of intense, immediate scrutiny by tens of thousands.  Most here have demonstrated compassion, patience, and humour, which is cool; for the rest, maybe cut bio a bit of slack?

I get that, I really do -- but you also have to understand and accept that people paid upwards of sixty dollars for a product that is not working as intended. They have a right to be upset (upset, not belligerent).

Edit: I'm agreeing with you, mostly. Sorry if that wasn't immediately clear.

I am disappointed at the level of outrage displayed here.  Why aren't more of you MORE angry?  My game is completely unplayable right now.  When I last logged off, my game was beautiful and my Inquisitor was beautiful.  Now, everything is ugly, because I trusted "Game Of The Year" Bioware and installed the patch, never dreaming that it would totally ruin my game and make it unbearable to play.  I am very, very angry!  I'm furious!  This complete failure of the QA process and oversight is a massive betrayal and we are right to be upset!  We have a right to be angry about this.  It's OK to be mad at Bioware/EA!  Let them hear about your outrage.  UNLEASH THE HOUNDS!

Do you buy a new car design the first year it is produced, or do you buy it in year 2?  New car designs are notoriously buggy in the first year of production.

Oh I thought this was the third iteration in the series, not the first. Huh.

PC here.

I can confirm the poorer graphic texture (vegetation and slightly washed out colors).

I had details on Ultra before without any problem.

The scars on my chars disappeared.

The "take all" option and hide UI seem to work though.

Ended with the textures of the game in PC. The graphic quality of the game was perfect before this patch, but gave directx crash. Now fixed directx crash but have a terrible graphics quality. My drawings are better than the graphics of this game. I will never buy any game from Bioware.

Before this patch: all in HIGH
After this patch: all in LOW

They know. Humans make mistakes. Freaking out about it accomplishes nothing.

The hateful stuff is annoying, I grant you that. People are passionate about the game, though. So am I. And that means my reaction is passionate. Seeing my game post-patch - it's just not possible to describe how that feels after playing on Ultra settings for three weeks. People make mistakes and all that, and I won't hold it against them that they're only human, but that doesn't make the problem go away.

Same here. I got shiny hair and all the graphics downgrade on high/ultra settings as well while using mantle.

Edit: I had no problems with the game before the patch except the voice swap bug when meeting customized you-know-who.

So if I'm getting this right, Patch 2:

  • Fixes crashes for some users who had problems with crashes pre-patch.
  • Does not fix crashes for some users who had problems with crashes pre-patch.
  • Causes crashes for some users who never experienced crashes pre-patch.
  • Fixes the shiny hair issue for some users who had problems with shiny hair on low settings pre-patch.
  • Causes the shiny hair issue on the Inquisitor for some users who never had problems with shiny hair on high settings pre-patch.
  • Causes the shiny hair issue on everyone except the Inquisitor for some users who never had problems with shiny hair on high settings pre-patch.
  • Causes the Inquisitor's complexion to change for some users.
  • Causes scars and freckles to disappear for all (?) users.
  • Causes characters to momentarily float in the air for some users who never had problems with floating pre-patch.
  • Causes sound to cut out for some users who never had problems with sound cutting out pre-patch.
  • Causes lower-res textures to appear even on higher settings for for some users who did not have this issue pre-patch.

Honestly, this is a really bizarre patch since it fixes issues for some users, and creates issues for other users.

At least I got one playthrough in (after a week of crappy graphics using DirectX instead of Mantle) before the patch...

Yes, my graphics have definitely been downgraded. Short blond hair turns to bald head. Short black hair now looks like a plastic cap instead of hair. Worse, the detailed definition in my armor has all gone to pot. Looks like the unmodded pc version of DAO now.

This was quality tested for pc on ultra settings?

Nonsense!

Actually, no, I directly told people to tweet to @dragonage with issues as well as posting in Answers HQ, as it is the best way to get your message to our support staff.

I asked that people not "hammer" on these sites, and have asked in the past that people do not spam the devs like Mark, as it is not the best way to get your feedback across.

Your last few posts have been actively trying to fan flames. Please stop this, as it is not helpful to getting anything done.

We are looking into this issue and appreciate our users bringing things to our attention, but angry, spurious accusations do not get us anywhere.

Why? Why would you do this?

The communication has been awful as it is, not sure who's reponsible for it but its not something unique for BioWare since it usually sucks (SWTOR and ME3 spring to mind). I understand how busy it is and the shitstorms that occur in the office on these moments, Ive been there. That still isnt an excuse though.

This forum is here for a reason, to be of use to your customers. Now you want them to go to an EA website where a lot of people will be helped by unknowing and therefore incompetent customer service agents. Yes it sounds harsh but thats how it is. This will annoy people even more and in the end it wont have helped at all since work-arounds will be posted here and whatever cant be worked around will need to be patched. Or you send people to Twitter, the place where people can relieve all their problems in 140 characters or less. We're talking technical issues here, dxdiag's that need to be investigated, savegames, login credentials, elaboration of the problem. THIS CANNOT BE DONE ON TWITTER! Trust me, Ive done this before!

I love BioWare, I love the games you guys make but seriously, stop ****** up the community stuff. Conal this probably isnt directed at you since youre probably the one who drew the short stick to post on these forums and your hands are probably tied. I just get pissed off at how crappy this is being handled, again, because I've done the job and I know it can be done better.

I'd like to play my game, is there a way to revert the update?

I bought a new video card and beefier ram just so I can play it with better graphics
(The game was the extra push I needed to update my pc, it was a long time coming)
I really hope they fix this soon. I had everything on ultra and now my character(s) look like plastic prunes.

Just popping to say "Me too" to graphics bugs for the record... I already reported them to customer support.

Issues I am having:
Shiny hair
Texture Loss
I just started having dialogue issues with being assigned the wrong gender.
Higher frequency crashing
No Scars.

Bugs I had that were fixed:
Hawke voice swap bug
White screen (Nvidia) crashing/freezing (so far)

I love Bioware, I've been a fan since Baldur's Gate, however it seems their work is being increasingly rushed :/
Don't get me wrong, Bioware still produces my favorite games of all time.
