Why? Why would you do this?

The communication has been awful as it is, not sure who's reponsible for it but its not something unique for BioWare since it usually sucks (SWTOR and ME3 spring to mind). I understand how busy it is and the shitstorms that occur in the office on these moments, Ive been there. That still isnt an excuse though.

This forum is here for a reason, to be of use to your customers. Now you want them to go to an EA website where a lot of people will be helped by unknowing and therefore incompetent customer service agents. Yes it sounds harsh but thats how it is. This will annoy people even more and in the end it wont have helped at all since work-arounds will be posted here and whatever cant be worked around will need to be patched. Or you send people to Twitter, the place where people can relieve all their problems in 140 characters or less. We're talking technical issues here, dxdiag's that need to be investigated, savegames, login credentials, elaboration of the problem. THIS CANNOT BE DONE ON TWITTER! Trust me, Ive done this before!

I love BioWare, I love the games you guys make but seriously, stop ****** up the community stuff. Conal this probably isnt directed at you since youre probably the one who drew the short stick to post on these forums and your hands are probably tied. I just get pissed off at how crappy this is being handled, again, because I've done the job and I know it can be done better.

Its ok brah, i got banned for 7 days because i posted some images from a funny DAO nudy mod as a reply to someone (extended pearl and,i even censored them in photoshop).

Quite hypocritical when DA:I contains bewbs , asses, gay and intterracial sex scenes. Some mods are unforgiving.

*posts potential workaround*

Sorry about any frustration this may have caused.

The best thing about the entire ordeal is bioware will not respond to the issues; they will not address them; they will not apologise.

Sometimes the internet delivers. Thanks Conal.

Really?  You're backing them up  when they spout the same ol' same ol' "please report issues over there".

Nothing saying, "We are aware we severely screwed up and will have a hotfix in x time."  Because that would be the professional thing to do.

EDIT:  Thank you, Conal.  Better late than never.   :)

My intent wasn't to back them up, only point out that you were wrong. They aren't necessarily the same thing.

So has there been two patches now? The bugged one and now a hotfix?

Or maybe instead of doing all of that crap you could just do your job and not make me pay £60 to beta test your garbage?

They are doing their jobs, the fact is it's not that quick to fix stuff. Not that I expect you to actually sit down and think before going on a rant, of course.

A command line for the framerate and now a command line for the quality?  Is there a simpler DOS version of this game?

People, don't throw tomatoes on the modo.

He is just here to rely the info.

I ain't saying you can't rant but not directly at him, please.

He is not meat shield.

Edit : it's just that I know what is like when people direct their anger at you and not on the real topic/subject.

The launcher workaround provided has fixed the most egregious graphical issues introduced by the patch for me.   It appears that all or most of the pre-patch issues (opaque fog and texture flicker) remain.

Granted these were no specifically addressed in the patch notes.

I think I found a possible way to uninstall the patch

I found this post on Tumblr. When I get the chance I'll try it myself, but for everyone else seeking a solution here you go. Really hope this works, tell me if anyone gets any positive results.

Spoiler

I'm restoring it now, 16 minutes left, even though it said 15 minutes... 5 minutes ago... like wtf?

Anyway, will definitely let you know. If it works, you'll be a forum celebrity for sure (as well as a INCgamer celebrity!)

Hey Everyone,

We're working on getting a hot fix out for the PC graphics issue as soon as possible. In the meantime, here is a workaround you can try:

To start, make sure the quality setting you choose is equal to the setting set for Mesh Quality inside Options>Graphics

You will need to add a new command line parameter. To do this:

Through Origin:

  1. Right click on the Dragon Age Inquisition title
  2. Go to game properties
  3. Type the command line parameter in the Command Line Properties box.

Through shortcut:

  1. Right Click Shortcut
  2. Go to Properties
  3. Under target go to the end of the field and type the command line parameter into the box

Once there, add the following command line parameter: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel <quality setting>

In this instance, <quality setting> should be one of the following:

  • Ultra
  • High
  • Medium
  • Low

An example of how to set your quality to high would be: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel High

Please note that once the hot fix is out, you will need to go back in and remove this workaround from your command line.

It’s also important to note that pre-patch 2, all users on PC were being forced to use the Ultra shader quality. This means that those of you playing on lower settings will notice a decrease in quality, particularly players using low or medium settings.

To achieve the same visuals as pre-patch, users on lower settings will need to change their settings to Ultra, which should likewise be used in conjunction with Ultra mesh quality. Mismatching the mesh and shader settings will result in other visual artifacts like overly shiny hair.

Please be aware that changing settings to Ultra may impact performance on some machines.

Sorry about any frustration this may have caused.

Does that fix the granny Hawke problem (or any other cosmetical problems such as scars, freckles etc...)?

I just had my game updated.  Guess what it did not solve my problem.  The game froze after about 10 minutes, I walked from the front of the building in Haven to the war room and started the conversation with the others and it froze again.  Before I started writing this I had to calm my self have a cup of tea, because if I had got on to the forum straight away I might have said things I would regret.

The complete message I get is. Directx Function "GetDeviceRemovedReason" Failed with DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG (The application device failed due to badly formed commands sent by the application.  This is an deisgn-time issue that should be investigated and fixed) .GPU "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660", Driver 34475.  That is the complete message.

When I go to the NVIDIA web sit to make sure I have the correct driver installed the message I get with the driver is "GAME READY Best Gaming experience for Dragon Age Inquisition.  Other games are mentioned, I don't have the other games so I can't test it.

I have a game I can't play.  I live in Australia so the game cost me $90.00.  I am very unhappy IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT DO THE RIGHT THING AND REFUND MY MONEY.  I don't want the game it is vey disappointing.

In future anything with EA attached I will steer clear of until it has been out for at least 6 months.  They rush it out to  get your money even though they know the game is not finished.  NO MORALS.

So if I'm getting this right, Patch 2:

  • Fixes crashes for some users who had problems with crashes pre-patch.
  • Does not fix crashes for some users who had problems with crashes pre-patch.
  • Causes crashes for some users who never experienced crashes pre-patch.
  • Fixes the shiny hair issue for some users who had problems with shiny hair on low settings pre-patch.
  • Causes the shiny hair issue on the Inquisitor for some users who never had problems with shiny hair on high settings pre-patch.
  • Causes the shiny hair issue on everyone except the Inquisitor for some users who never had problems with shiny hair on high settings pre-patch.
  • Causes the Inquisitor's complexion to change for some users.
  • Causes scars and freckles to disappear for all (?) users.
  • Causes characters to momentarily float in the air for some users who never had problems with floating pre-patch.
  • Causes sound to cut out for some users who never had problems with sound cutting out pre-patch.
  • Causes lower-res textures to appear even on higher settings for for some users who did not have this issue pre-patch.

Honestly, this is a really bizarre patch since it fixes issues for some users, and creates issues for other users.

For those who's experience crashes that didn't appear before the patch, that's a real issue. the graphic issues however I can't see how they will not be swift and easily fixed, it seems like a settings issue that should be reverted in a hotfix in a matter of days.
I had my elf mage mistaken for a human noble, and other mages asked me how it was growing up in the circle, and as a danish elf mage I couldn't wear elven outfits etc. So there's actual problems solved with the patch. I don't like my character missing her scars and I am close to tears over Hardings lost freckles, but those aren't game breaking issues and I can't see how it could take long to fix.

Ooooooh wait i get it now! So previously Shader Settings were set by default to Ultra and not available in options. With this patch, they intended to add them as an option in the Graphics Settings menu, but apparently that didn't work? And they defaultet them to Low now instead of Ultra?

The command line workaround seems to work for me.
Everything looks nicer, my hair is no longer shiny, my scar is back, loading times are back to normal.

Edit: Of course, what I meant to say was 'thank you'. ;)

. There are no lines covering this in patch notes yet is was intended (not a bug).

And you have proof that this was intended?
