As of patch 2 crashes happen during cutscenes: the cutscene freezes and then the game is unresponsive. Most of the time it gives no error message (this one is the exception). Aside from the patch nothing has changed on my PC.

I was really hoping this issue was going to be fixed with this patch. =[

It's a shame that it still appears to be present for both Nvidia and AMD users. Sometimes I could play for 2 hours without a DX crash, other times it happened 5 minutes into a play session and continued randomly throughout.

Hey Everyone,

We're working on getting a hot fix out for the PC graphics issue as soon as possible. In the meantime, here is a workaround you can try:

To start, make sure the quality setting you choose is equal to the setting set for Mesh Quality inside Options>Graphics

You will need to add a new command line parameter. To do this:

Through Origin:

  1. Right click on the Dragon Age Inquisition title
  2. Go to game properties
  3. Type the command line parameter in the Command Line Properties box.

Through shortcut:

  1. Right Click Shortcut
  2. Go to Properties
  3. Under target go to the end of the field and type the command line parameter into the box

Once there, add the following command line parameter: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel <quality setting>

In this instance, <quality setting> should be one of the following:

  • Ultra
  • High
  • Medium
  • Low

An example of how to set your quality to high would be: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel High

Please note that once the hot fix is out, you will need to go back in and remove this workaround from your command line.

It’s also important to note that pre-patch 2, all users on PC were being forced to use the Ultra shader quality. This means that those of you playing on lower settings will notice a decrease in quality, particularly players using low or medium settings.

To achieve the same visuals as pre-patch, users on lower settings will need to change their settings to Ultra, which should likewise be used in conjunction with Ultra mesh quality. Mismatching the mesh and shader settings will result in other visual artifacts like overly shiny hair.

Please be aware that changing settings to Ultra may impact performance on some machines.

Sorry about any frustration this may have caused.

Can confirm this works for the most part but using this method I got a 'crash' for the first time in over 100 hours of gameplay. It wasn't a regular CTD but instead my display driver stopped working after ~3 mins of gameplay. Like I said, this has never once happened to me when playing before this patch/workaround.

Can't wait for that hotfix!

Workaround does not work, in addition to that every time my game goes to a load screen it flashes to my desk top. I didn't have ANY issues before the patch. I rarely ever had any issues with Bioware's games so I'll be waiting for that hot fix. Hopefully soon...

Well, at least they quickly released a workaround and we know a hotfix is coming.

So, I'm not going to hold this against Bioware. Too much. The hotfix better be fast, however.

Eh, if nothing else, it gives you an appreciation of how better the game looks on high settings.

Awesome, this fixed all the issues I personally had. Thank you Conal and BW.

Well, even with the workaround the post process quality is still broken (the DOF is all wonky and frankly i'd prefer an option to disable it altogether). Anyone tried it in grassy locations to see if it fixed the ugly grass seen earlier?

BW response to DirectX:  Just use another command line.  It should work.

What card are you running again? I have an OC'd HD 6950 2gb model and i never had direct x errors.

Pressing F to "loot all" isn't even a real fix. You could press space bar already to do that. And yeah I found that completely by mistake. It's not like anything is documented.

My computer has been going crazy since the patch.  There's a loud fan that has never come on before starts up almost as soon as I turn the game on and the computer starts putting out a lot of heat and goes off as soon as I shut it down.  I'm afraid to play the game, I don't want to ruin my fairly new gaming computer for a game.  I hope they get it fixed soon!

This is what happens when your entitled whining makes EA/BioWare nervous: They're rushing patches.

Can you give a more clear example of how to do this. ie - ...exe"-shader system....

Do we add a space after the exe", do we remove the ", is there a space between level and the word ultra?

I'm not able to get it to work

Has made my graphics look excellent as well, thanks Conal!

The hot-fix worked for me and the performance is way better now. I'm getting 15+ FPS more than on patch1. Mistakes happen guys, but ... has anyone been testing this before the release ?

Besides that, why would anyone "loot all"? It's not that the inventory space is infinite. Plus I didn't see looting exploit on power amulets fixed.

EA doesn't have QA on PC department. Otherwise this K/B controls clunkyness wouldn't pass it.

Anyone know if that fix and the cut-scene FPS fix will stack? or would it be easier to go into the config.ini file and add this

Has anyone else tried this? I'd honestly be willing to give this a go if it got rid of the DirectX error. That was literally the biggest issue I've been having.

Holy butt cockles, I had to sign in just to reply to this.  First off they did do testing on the patch it would not have been released otherwise.  I for one have no issues, no graphics degredation no crashes.  If it works on their pc and works on mine the problem is usually the customers pc.  It can be any number of things. When a new patch comes out for any game you always make sure you have the latest graphics driver and sound drivers.  Aside from that make sure you have the latest .net installed with patches, this is important because the code in the game is done with libraries from .net and others.  A company cannot account for everyones pc and the drivers and other software they have that may conflict with the game. Thats on you to keep your pc straight.

Lmfao, this is rich. This is all common sense to anyone that's been playing games for longer than 5 minutes. There are waaaaaaaaay too many signs that this is an issue on biowares end.
