Really? I've seen quite a few attractive FemQuisitors so far.

QUICK PSA

Since we have the option to change them now, I'd urge everyone to try "High" shaders instead of "Ultra", at least for me it seems to make a HUGE performance difference and i can barely see a difference in graphic quality.

btw can somebody remind me what the console command for fps display was, keep forgettin...

I can confirm this as well. Before it seemed that no matter which settings I tried to lower the game was stuck using ultra shaders. My older spec system just couldn't handle those well.

Now that I changed it to high level shaders with the workaround, I noticed a HUGE performance boost with absolutely acceptable fidelity. In fact, I could turn other settings back up to look better than I could before.

The game runs fantastic on my older machine now, even in crowded areas, the framerate remains pretty rock solid.

Not sure if this is relevant or not, but on my GTX 660, I am running the 340.52 drivers. I have hated and had some issue or another with every release since then so I just stick to 340.52. They run the game superbly for me.

"They had no beta"?  I don't think you understand how game development works.

yes they always have a beta, but most of the time the programers either don't care or don't hear aboutthe beta testers complaints. Thats how real 'game development' works :/

and I'm sorry, "The beta testers where forced to have setting on Ultra" How the flying hell does that help anyone? ANd who the hell ran the Beta test this time around? That person needs to NEVER be part of beta testing again with that kind of mentality. "You can only use the highest setting" On a playform with a tons of different settings, which I thank BW for doing, makes it very easily scaleable. Just to have someone say, "You must all run at X setting for our testing" Basicly saying screw the other people with not as elite PC's... seriously BW, do a proper beta.

Ok, I read in the text that the update was sposed to reduce hair shinnyness... umm did they mistakingly make the patch notes wrong because on my game, the shinniness is like though the roof. So umm can I have a roll back please?

My Dalish Elf now looks like a Grease monkey from the 60's... you know from like Grease...

Almost all of the bugs I've seen have been BioWare's fault. The renderer actually seems quite good.

The cutscene system is not optimized very well (BioWare's fault), the audio thread seems to occasionally get starved (probably BioWare's fault), the gameplay systems can be downright stupid (BioWare's fault), the controls are hideous and the interface is embarrassing (BioWare's fault).

But the graphics are pretty and the streaming is robust and it all seems to be quite performant. I haven't looked at the multiplayer (and never will), so maybe that's just a big bag of suck, but I haven't seen anything in single-player I would blame on Frostbite specifically (well, some of the design stuff was undoubtedly influenced by the way the engine works, and I certainly may not like it all, but it's still not the engine's fault when some of it doesn't work right).

My understanding is that most of BF4's issues were in networking and that the graphics layer (which is most of what DA uses) is generally well regarded.

See, this is the kind of thing I was worried about.  These patterns were all too apparent this summer, and we all knew that doing what they were doing, with a new engine, was going to require some A level programming.  It came across both in the footage we saw, and the explanations we got for why things were the way they were.

Just very unexpected from a company that should have been able to get past these issues.

I do love hearing about the eye candy, though.

Okay, I haven't opened Origin all day so my game hasn't patched yet so I have two questions.

One. Is there a way to play DA:I without opening Origin and it patching the damn game? Whenever I have tried to open just DA:I in the past it makes me open Origin first so who knows.

Two. If there isn't why the hell isn't Bioware going with the obvious answer to fix this? PULL THE PATCH UNTIL THE FIX IS DONE. That way people like myself who haven't patched yet can open and play the game without worries of it breaking/ruining our characters. I had zero issues before the patch myself so this seems like the best solution for me and I don't understand why Bioware didn't just do it in the first place upon finding out there was such a big issue with it.

Anyone??

I had NO issues before the patch, now I do. They are minor tho and so far have not been an issue. 1) First of all I just LOVE the way the hair looks. I created a new character and her hair is still shiny but more natural looking and softer looking. However I had no scars under the scars on creation. The tatoos and everything else seems to work fine in creation but no scars. (let me know if it is on my end). Had scars before. Have not logged into my one created before the patch to see if her scar is still there. 2). While talking to Varric in Haven in the beginning of the game after the initial Chantry scene, his right leg kept looking like it was buckling under him or like he kept stepping in a hole while standing there talking to me. 3) the one I think is the worst is this one. When you first start and the box pops up (to let you veiw something) It used to say use ctrl. Now it says ConceptMenuAltView. So far I have found nothing that is a game breaker but will let other issues be known. I have read some of the "RANTS" that people are doing and feel we need to give them a chance. This is a massive game and how can we expect it to be perfect every time. I used to test mods in DAO and even tho we THOUGHT we had caught every problem someone else would ALWAYS find something, no matter how small, wrong. Everyone sees different things. I have NEVER liked any other game series more than all the Dragon age series. I love Inquisition and cannot wait to see what, if any, DLC;s etc they add on to it. (side stories, more romance, etc, would be wonderful). Just seems that some people have to have something to Complain about.

Must be my system because I have not had the crashing that others have with the new patch and I have not, YET, had any of the other issues, but will keep my eye out for them.

While I appreciate that patching a game like Inquisition is - as Mark Darrah tweeted - incredibly complex, there is one thing I find really difficult to understand.  Perhaps someone with some programming knowledge can offer some insight.

The walk bind key on keyboard/mouse - I know it is not in the same league as bug fixes etc for most people, and that's fair enough, although personally I would tolerate a rather high number of bugs and clunky controls if my chosen input method was given the same care as the others.  So, my question, why is adding a walk bind key to the keyboard interface something that had to wait until next time (or the time after, or whenever, I guess)?  The ability and animation exists within the PC version, we know, as PC/controller users can walk.  Was the 'clean up' of the UI really necessary to be implemented  before this addition was made?

Again - I'm not a programmer, but this seems, to my plodding logic, like a fairly low cost addition.  Giving a key bind to something already in the game and working.

Does anyone have any insight as to what I am missing?  Or do I have it more or less right, and they are patching in a 'process' so, irrespective of how easy/hard something is, things get sorted in the correct "order"?

We are talking about the Frostbite 3, Character animation state is probably provided by the game engine itself in a data-driven way and I'm pretty sure it's not hard coded. So there must be somewhere a simple text file containing the animation state specifications to change ...

Elated to hear of the Hawke-Quizzy voice fix, that prevented me from making one of my non-default Hawkes the way I wanted. And I was going to replay as that inquisitor anyway, since I didn't really settle into the personality I wanted to RP for her until liek, halfway through the game, so I have no problem redoing the whole thing. Not as elated to hear of the KE nerf, but it was bugged (positively) anyway, and is probably still God Tier (gonna test now) anyway, so

I noticed the shininess is down in mine but what I love is that the hair looks "softer". It could depend on the color of the hair too. I noticed the darker colors looked shinier than the lighter ones. At least for me.

Reporting in to say:

Using the workaround fixed the issues I had. (Scars, freckles, complexions, vegetation, ice etc.) I'm using HIGH though, not Ultra. Bye Bye oily hair, we're back in business!

Now, BW, that's how you handle a mess like this. Communicate, help, keep us in the loop. Now get to the hotfix, guys, shoo shoo! :D

The biggest trap in the instructions is to ensure that Mesh Quality matches the manual command line setting, as that may not necessarily be the case and definitely didn't happen when I selected "Automatic" within the Graphics Options - ie you may need to go in and change this yourself in the game, exit and *then* do the Command Line workaround.

I'm assuming people have read the instructions carefully and don't want to appear patronising, however it's only appropriate (and far more productive) to consider solutions over negative ad hominems.

That and also Drivers, as SSV Enterprise very helpfully pointed out - I'm even updating my Sound Card, which I didn't realise was out of date by several years, just in case.

Good for you guys. I haven't been having too many problems outside of simply poor performance (for a 290X), but there are a few things I noticed here that I've encountered. I'm glad you're fixing things.

There are certainly other things I'd love for you to fix, but this is a good start.

Tried the work-around suggested.   Didn't work.  This is a load of GARABGE and that is being polite.  EA do the right thing for a change and return peoples money if they want a refund.

Then in 12 months when you have thoroughly tested the game and know it works properly rerelease the game.  There was nothing wrong with the way Origins worked, Sure it was not as open world as Skyrim.  The Graphics were OK.  At lest you could play it.

You actually could have returned the game on Origin within 24 hours of first playing it if it disgusted you that much.

I'm talking about an open, public beta, man.

Well that's different than just a beta.  Betas in general are closed, it's open betas that are the exception.  Open betas are generally done for one of two reasons.  One is for stress testing your game's multiplayer servers before the official release, and isn't about bugfixing.  The second is if you're an indie studio that's trying to finance continued development of your game through "early access".

Neither applies to the single player campaign of DAI.  An open beta of the single player mode for DAI would have been unprecedented and is not really something that would have been good, in my opinion.

Weird Issue on PS4.

Health Bar and Radar remained as I got to this cutscene on a new playthrough after Patch 2 Download:

IIgv3XT.jpg

I Could NOT select any Conversations with the left analog stick.  Pressing L1 did Bring up the Radial Menu:

avCwfYp.jpg

At which point, I could use the Left Stick to select choices:

Pk2K0N3.jpg

During this whole conversation, I could pause the animation with the Radial Menu and the dialogue sound would stop but the animation would continue.

I did not want this kind of problems post-patch on the PC. I invested money in my GPU for a reason! And it wasn't cheap! X(

Battlefield 4 had been a dumpster fire since launch. Maybe there is something to this engine being hot garbage.

It's the engine. Frostbite 3 is a heap of trash for PC. It was designed for consoles as the primary focus.

Hell, the game would have probably been better off with Cryengine 3  .

No, it wasn't bugged. The description calls it an Eldritch Detonator, and I've seen it detonate frozen targets. They nerfed it.

I honestly don't understand the point of nerfs in single player games. I've already gotten my Nightmare achievement, so this hardly affects me, but it's still annoying.

It does doesn't it. Which is strange when it has so many options. Maybe its because the defaults aren't particularly good, the elf defaults are especially bad.
