So I suspended the patch download at the suggestion of these forums.  But what I'd really like to know is if the displeasure with this patch is justified or simply the typical bashing this forum is known for.

Given how much negativity towards the game itself has come about these last few weeks, and considering how much I disagree with that negativity, I'm thinking the latter.  But unforutnately I don't know for sure...and there's no going back after installing the patch.

The workaround posted in the thread seems to work for everyone I've talked to. It's a bit annoying, but not much more. The patch isn't mandatory, but the new search radar removes some hassle.

Bioware borked that patch, but at least they have a hotfix on the way, with a semi-solution posted hours after it went live. In my books, it's no big deal. Making mistakes happen; not fixing them is what is bad. Let's just hope they have better QA next time, because if this happens twice I do hope heads start to roll in their testing department.

Apologies devsin, you are quite right.

I think I made the distinction clear in my preceding posts, however that was an incorrect usage of the term in my most recent one.

Workaround works for me. Thank god.

Appreciate it very much. Can play again now.

Looking forward to the patch that fixes the patch.

Edit: Wording.

The command line shader fix thing worked for me. Shiny hair is back to normal, scars/freckles are back, and the fine detail on clothes and armor seems to have returned. However, it still seems like the post-processing effects, depth-of-field being most noticebale, aren't working.

Update: Fixed my post-processing issue by "toggling" my graphics settings. I set the overall graphics setting option to Low. Then restarted the game. Then changed the settings back to how I had them before. Restarted and now, combined with the command line shader fix, graphics are as before. Total time wasted: 6 hours.

They better don't, i'd be downright ashamed if i was the one who gave the green light for the patch.

Anyone have a comparison of High vs Ultra shaders? I assume you would also need to set meshes to high if you use High Shaders? I want to see if its noticable because preferably I want to run this game with 2x msaa as well. GTX 970.

I want to know this aswell, especially since it's been claimed all shaders pre-patch ran automatically on ultra. Not touching the game anymore before there is a decent hotfix released AND i have some feedback for it.

Any news on the DX_DEVICE_HUNG issue? I didn't see anything explicit about it in the patch notes, but I'm not sure if it was meant to fall under "stability improvements."

It also seems like both AMD and Nvidia users are getting the error.

Running two GTX 680s sli at 2560x1440 and I have been getting constant CTD since game launch. I have the latest nvidia drivers and I done everything to get it work. I run the game with a single gpu fine but I only average 40 frames. Also fog with SLI is like a complete whiteout. Anybody else experience these issues?

Seriously, what about the Qunari armor bug, where nothing works with them? D:

On top of the graphics downgrade (shiny hair ) even though my settings are at Ultra with 2xMSAA, I am also experiencing really bad frame rate drops quite frequently. Before the patch, I would see the odd 45fps in really demanding areas or scenarios but pretty much enjoyed 50-60fps for the most part. Now these frame rate drops are really impacting playability.

My computer has been going crazy since the patch.  There's a loud fan that has never come on before starts up almost as soon as I turn the game on and the computer starts putting out a lot of heat and goes off as soon as I shut it down.  I'm afraid to play the game, I don't want to ruin my fairly new gaming computer for a game.  I hope they get it fixed soon!

I haven't gotten caught up to the current page yet and I don't know if anyone has replied to you about this yet, but download a temp. monitoring program. PrecisionX if you have an EVGA card, Afterburner is an option, etc. Adjust your fan speeds if you need to and make sure you don't really go over 70C.

Could just be my card is picky, but usually it debates whether or not it wants to turn off my whole PC if it gets to ~75C.

two question. why pre-patch 2, all users on PC were being forced to use the Ultra shader quality?

did the upcoming hotfix will forcing shader to ultra again? if so, that will be disadvantage to user like me who have min spec.

Have you or will you fix the inability to install the second disc for the 360, Xbox One and Playstation consoles to eliminate the over heating and constant disc spinning issues for the game?

This is a major problem with the game on the consoles which causes other bugs and issues to occur.

Listen guys I know there has been a lot of complaints about the shiny hair and lowere graphics but I am having an entirely different experience. My game constantly stutters and freezes during startup, loading screen, and gameplay. During gameplay it freezes for a second or more about once every 5 or 6 seconds. When using spells and abilities, especially aoe's it's worse. My fps has been drastically reduced as well. I can't even change graphics settings without it stuttering and freezing. This is game breaking for me! I can't play long enough to see if the ctds are still there. I tried adding the target parameter fix and setting all graphics to the same setting as the mesh setting and nothing helps! It took me awhile to save for this game and so far it's been a complete waste of time and money. This patch ruined my game. I wish I could remove it. A freakin hotfix had better address these issues or I will personally boycott Bioware games in the future. I am sadly disappointed with a game company that I used to trust and love. Hopefully they will take immediate steps to remedies these and other issues and in so doing win back the trust of their fans.

This was a bug they didn't catch because they are console gamers.

If they can do this I think it would help with textures loading, freezes, crashes, loading times, ect.

Sadly DX crashes are not addressed with this patch.

When I downloaded the patch, I initially was happy because the ridiculous looking shiny metallic hair was gone and replaced by less shiny hair. But I noticed I could no longer make it look better by turning the mesh quality from low to high. I also noticed a graphical downgrade. In addition to a general drop in framerate. Josephine's eyebrows and face suddenly looked kinda weird and even turning all the graphics high enough to make the game totally unplayable on "ultra" didn't help. But then when I tried the solution workaround and set the shader to "high" it seemed to make everything back to normal. Good and bad. The metallic hair came back on low settings and turning the mesh to high fixed it. I don't know if that helped the suddenly lower framerate though.

Ok, so I read the first 25-30 pages of this thread, and then I had to go do a bunch of work shortly after the patch was released.  Can anybody give me an executive summary of the past 50 or so pages?

Judging from this page alone, has the patch been received with...less than unanimous praise?

My game was perfect, 40 to 60fps, at ultra config . Now with the update it keeps freezing over and over, even at low config . There's no how to play the game like this.
