If you are experiencing issues, by all means please report it to us via twitter at @dragonage or on Answers HQ, but don't "hammer" these sites. That's counterproductive. That might not have been your intention, but lets all make sure we deal with our fellow humans in a respectable manner.
Can we get a statement on this thread regarding the licencing issue that many people have been experiencing post patch?
DAI is attempting to re-activate itself after the patch. Its failing to contact the licencing server. (According to the logs)This error is preventing the game to boot.
It is effecting hundreds of people and the EA forum manager David has no idea what has occurred . No legal solution has been found yet.
Conal Pierse can you send your minions out to look into this. ![]()

Step 1:
Open origins, then ->
Step 2:
Type this in ->
Step 3:
Go ingame and change your mesh quality to Ultra:
Step 4:
Restart your game, profit!
Oh thank you very much, that was a lot clearly. I really do bioware fix this. I purposely wait until now to buy a new gaming pc just for inquisition. I was so excited when the patch came out. T.T

So, since I had a good experience prepatch, can I just avoid updating or will Origin not let me play the game?
Yes, you can.
Just play offline and don't let origin update.

A suitable hotfix would just be a rollback to the previous version, which shouldn't be much more than a click of a button if you use Revision Control, then a recompile. How come nobody thought of that?

I can't believe people are complaining about pc users complaining. The patch nearly broke my game (graphics, loading screens, stuttering) and I'm also old enough to have seen far worse graphics, because I grew up with Baldur's Gate, but why is this even an argument? It's 2014 and it's okay to expect a nice quality in higher settings. I did my first playthrough on high/ultra and it was pretty and I also work my ass off to actually buy me things that I can enjoy in my freetime... so it makes me a bit upset, when stuff like this happens.
Death threats and flaming are sick though. -.- come on, stop that.

Hey Everyone,
We're working on getting a hot fix out for the PC graphics issue as soon as possible. In the meantime, here is a workaround you can try:
To start, make sure the quality setting you choose is equal to the setting set for Mesh Quality inside Options>Graphics
You will need to add a new command line parameter. To do this:
Through Origin:
- Right click on the Dragon Age Inquisition title
- Go to game properties
- Type the command line parameter in the Command Line Properties box.
Through shortcut:
- Right Click Shortcut
- Go to Properties
- Under target go to the end of the field and type the command line parameter into the box
Once there, add the following command line parameter: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel <quality setting>
In this instance, <quality setting> should be one of the following:
- Ultra
- High
- Medium
- Low
An example of how to set your quality to high would be: -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel High
Please note that once the hot fix is out, you will need to go back in and remove this workaround from your command line.
It’s also important to note that pre-patch 2, all users on PC were being forced to use the Ultra shader quality. This means that those of you playing on lower settings will notice a decrease in quality, particularly players using low or medium settings.
To achieve the same visuals as pre-patch, users on lower settings will need to change their settings to Ultra, which should likewise be used in conjunction with Ultra mesh quality. Mismatching the mesh and shader settings will result in other visual artifacts like overly shiny hair.
Please be aware that changing settings to Ultra may impact performance on some machines.
Sorry about any frustration this may have caused.
Thanks for the quick workaround. My game looks normal again. Set mine to ultra since obviously that's the way it was before and what we've gotten used to. ![]()

Why they changed Inquisitor's outfit from the beginning of the game? Not that I'm complaining or something. Just curious.
Just wanted to let you know, this is NOT patch related - I made a new character on the 8th, prior to the patch, and had this happen. I was ecstatic, since I play as a rogue, and hate the mercenary (green) outfit.
It's the wrong outfit.
It seems to default to the thief outfit now regardless of class, and when you get to the bridge that gets destroyed (where you fall and get a weapon and fight the shades), you magically change into the class-appropriate armor during the cutscene.
It swaps what you are wearing back to the mercenary outfit, but the other is still in your inventory. You can get out of battle, and re-equip the cooler (imho) looking armor if you want.
That's very odd because I always used to get the mercenary coat to begin with whether I was a rogue or mage.
Was I bugged?
Not sure which is the bug, but every character I created prior to finishing the game (on 12/7) had the merc coat, now this new character (created 12/8, prior to the patch) has the Scout Armor. I love it.
No I always got the outfit called the mercenary's coat. It's specs would change depending on class but not the actual looks.
See above.

I've brought this up a few times along with them needing to just pull the broken patch so people like myself who haven't patched yet can play the game without worrying. But they don't care. They didn't care to test this patch before rolling it out either.

I think it's a bit over the top to say that they didn't care to test the patch. There are lots of variables involved that can contribute to things not working as designed. And it IS working for some.

Because people prefer to pretend that everything is fine instead of listening to the pain of others until they become victim themselves.
I know that for sure because I was banned from one forum and started being harrassed an another one when I was supporting the people who had bugs/different opinion with DA:I.
The funny thing is that I just want the better for the game and player. Also I will not trash talk any modo; instead I'm glad they're not ignoring their fans when they help them. But for players, I'm just a troll.
So yeah, people prefer to look down on complainers and go blind.

So...after being forced by Origin to patch the game I now no longer can play the game as it cannot be activated by EA servers. EA support staff says this is a patch problem and are waiting for you guys to fix it. Meanwhile I am sitting with a 90 dollar game I bought but am unable to play and have actually been forced to spend more time on the web and forums searching for solutions to the DirectX hung device issues than actually playing the game. An issue you did not address in the last so called "patch". This is the last time I preorder or start playing a game from day one. I will wait for the GOTY in the future, I dont have time with this amount of crap destroying a beautiful game experience.

They've definitely put this patch through QA, but not everything gets picked up during QA. I wish there was some sort of official response from EA or BioWare, but they're undoubtedly doing the best they can. Just be patient.

Yeah. I can't imagine why they didn't just do that.
Would that work and if so how? I am a bit computer illiterate when it comes to things like that.
It should.
Revision Control is something everyone uses in bigger projects, and even smaller projects. Several people can work on the same project, or even just the same document, and when they're done adding to it, the revision control makes your changes to the original document on the server, overwriting its changes with yours, and the same for everyone else.
When you work on something, you usually work on a master branch, then when you decide to release something, you can create another branch, and then polish the game in that branch. Then eventually release it of course.
Revision control allows you to look back at every single commit, so all they really have to do, is revert the version back prior to the patch, which they hopefully worked on in another another branch, than the "release" branch. Or if they decided to merge the patch into the release branch, then just revert that change, and compile the executable.
Only thing that really will take time, is for the recompile to finish.
However none of that is really needed if they kept a backup in the first place

Not impressed that the game is insisting on re-activating itself, not being able to do so and locking me out. It's bad enough that I didn't get any of the extra content I paid for, but to be locked out altogether is totally unacceptable.
Apologies if that sounds stroppy, but this obsession with DRM is getting really out of hand.

Apparently, it's a problem with the drm server. Which is not Bioware, but connected through EA and Origin. Funny how it coincides with the patch, though. Ugh, drm.

Gee, what a great patch when all it does it makes it impossible for anyone to even play the game at all because of your ridiculous servers telling everyone they can't log in. Did you miss the part where this is a SINGLE player game and not an MMO, so we shouldn't need to log in every time we want to play?

DRM is the worse, already we had to be online to start a new game if we want to use a custom world state + Denuvo + having origin on (granted, origin's offline mode is better than steam's half-offline mode), now it looks like it's locking out legit customers out of the game.
WHEN WILL DEVS LEARN?! ITS NOTHING BUT A BANE TO THE INDUSTRY!!! *sigh* /end vent
