I'm level 11 mage. I have these skills on the bar now: Mark of the Rift, Winter's Grasp. Blizzard, Wall of Ice, Mind Blast, Fade Step and Barrier.

Except for Wall of Ice, I use these all the time. And Wall of Ice has proven useful. So far I have 7 slots filled. At level 12 I plan to take Peaceful Aura. At 13, Dispell. That's all slots filled. At 14 I'll probably pick up Revival or Ice Mine. And then I have my specialty tree to work on. Thinking about Fade.

But where do I put the extra skills? I've been told, that I have to chose depending on the fight. There are a lot of fights.

This is my second play-though. My first was an archer (I prefer melee classes but the combat system makes that impossible for me - I went with range). I skipped a lot to finish the game at level 16. I didn't even bother to take a specialty class - I just ran to the end.

This play-though I was gonna take my time and see everything. But now, no. I just can't believe you'd limit the amount of skills I'm allowed to use. I mean, why the limit? Do you really expect me to stop before each fight and swap out skills? And this is assuming I know what the future fight will contain? Are you kidding? Playing like this, the game will quickly become a job. And I have one of those.

I mean I ran into this problem with my archer - not being able to switch to daggers. But as a mage I have to drop skills and only choose 8?

Anyway I'm just gonna stop. I think it's clear I'm frustrated over the various limits this game has. But this one - I just don't get. So I'm gonna save myself and these forums a lot of grief and stop playing the game.

I just want you, Bioware, to know how disappointing this is to me.

While I definitely agree that this is a major problem, you should perhaps focus on being constructive rather than despairing. For example, instead of being limited to an 8 slot skill system, could Bioware not implement a customizable ui akin to most mmo's today? Bars that can be simply dragged and dropped at our leisure would not only fix this problem, but also allow users with more basic approaches to keep the ui tidy.

This is a problem though. The whole concept of progression comes to a screeching halt when we constantly feel like we need to "forget" something in exchange for something else. What's the point of leveling if not for having more abilities for more situations?
